Gambling legislation moving forward

Here is some good news for you US folks:

The buzz in the United States gambling market these days really has seemed to focus hard on the potential for intrastate gambling to take off and hit it big with state citizens who now need an alternative to offshore online casinos to gamble through the internet. A handful of US states are seriously considering legalizing internet poker and forms of internet gambling within their state borders to generate funds for the state and still stay under the radar of the US authorities. The federal government’s UIGEA does not seemingly have anything to say about state-run online casino gambling that doesn’t cross the state’s borders.

That means California, Florida, Nevada, New Jersey, and Iowa are the top five states who have looked at the legal situation, looked at their state budgets, and discovered that online casino may be a perfect fit for generating revenue and creating jobs that will stimulate the economy while helping fill the state budget deficits. Several states are well on their way, legislation has be written, in Nevada’s case it’s been preliminarily approved, and now they are simply waiting for the final stages of approval.

And this is where the delays have occurred. For months it seemd as though Nevada was fast on its way to being the first US state to legalize intrastate online casinos. Then the government backed down and is in a standstill as the top legislators assert that although they could legalize intrastate gambling, they would prefer federal legislation on this issue. Which means the movement is stagnating and there it’s not looking like any new legislation will take place until the New Year in all likelihood.
