Back Mirage Casino to Cease Operations in Summer 2024 and to Return in 2027 as Hard Rock Las Vegas

The Mirage, an iconic gambling destination and the ice-breaking megaresort of the Las Vegas Strip, shuts its doors this summer, on July 17, after more than three decades of presence in the Sin City. However, the closure doesn’t signify the end of operations, as the resort will reopen in 2027 as Hard Rock Las Vegas.

Until the renovation plans are finalized, the property will remain operating under the Mirage brand. No bookings are accepted after July 14, but prior made reservations past the said date will be canceled and refunded.

The Opening of a New Chapter

Following the closure of The Mirage in mid-July, the 80-acre (32-hectare) property will undergo major renovation and construction. Set to return as Hard Rock Las Vegas in 2027, the resort will boast a guitar-shaped hotel of 700 feet (around 210 meters) in height.

Commenting on the closure, Jim Allen, chairman of Hard Rock International, said:

“We’d like to thank the Las Vegas community and team members for warmly welcoming Hard Rock after enjoying 34 years at The Mirage.”

Due to these substantial changes, over 3,000 employees will be laid off, in the name of which the company will have to pay $80 million in severance.

However, the Culinary Workers Union pointed out that thanks to the contract won last year, the workers have the option of returning to their positions when the property is back in business. The Union has so far represented approximately 1,700 workers at The Mirage.

Worth mentioning is that this is the second closure at the Las Vegas Strip from the beginning of the year. During the previous month, The Tropicana Las Vegas closed its doors after 67 years of being part of the gambling capital of the world. As planned, the site will be used for a $1.5 billion baseball stadium where Oakland A’s will be relocated.

Iconic Resort with Decades-Long Tradition

Symbolizing the grandeur and innovation of the city's iconic Strip, The Mirage Las Vegas was established by the visionary casino mogul Steve Wynn. Inspired by a captivating Polynesian theme, the luxurious property was the first megaresort to appear in Las Vegas.

Filled with a massive selection of slot machines, table games, and a high-limit lounge, the resort is designed to meet the demands of the most sophisticated clientele. On top of that, it hosts Unity by Hard Rock loyalty program with incredible rewards and perks on each level.

When it comes to dining options, guests are given a plethora of options to choose from, including fast food, seafood, pizza, pasta, and more. Amenities include a pool, spa & salon, souvenir shop, and multiple bars, promising top-class entertainment to all visitors.

At the very heart of the mind-blowing resort is located one of its most spectacular assets, the volcano fountain which quickly became a symbol of the resort's commitment to pushing the boundaries of entertainment.

Beyond its architectural marvels, The Mirage became widely known for its world-class performances, hosting legendary acts. Guests can enjoy a breathtaking Beatles-themed show by Cirque du Soleil and many other spectacles.
