1851, July 5 ~ Josefa Loazia, the only woman hanged in CA.  The stereotype of many Mexican women of lower classes was that they were the opposite of the stereotypical Anglo woman. Whereas the Anglo woman was chaste and pious, Mexican women were viewed as depraved and sexually corrupt. A drunken white man (Joe Canon) broke her front door while her husband was away and she was executed for stabbing him.
