Exuberant color

Even though I liked Beth's idea (in the comments yesterday) to make the last block lime green, that would have meant pulling out at least 16 pieces of lime fabric to cut one strip off and I already had black scraps ready to cut into strips. If time hadn't been a problem I might have done it, but I needed it done for my program tonight and didn't want to be working right up to the last minute. Thanks for all of the votes and suggestions yesterday. I have decided this is the way the quilt will be finished. Like I mentioned yesterday I have enough of the gray fabric already cut into strips to make all new alternate blocks so it wasn't a decision of how to fix the blocks that were already sewn. I decided to use the already prepared circles for the centers of the daisies. I sewed them on by machine with invisible thread and a narrow zig zag. Since this will be a throw quilt I didn't see the need for hand applique on the circles. After sewing on the circles I finished sewing the quilt top together. It is 48" x 65.5". A lot of readers mentioned that they wanted to know more about working with value. Here is the way that I teach it: Choose your assortment of fabrics. Move the light fabrics to the left and the dark fabrics to the right. All of the ones left down the middle are medium tones. l put the 63 blocks up on the design wall and changed a few several times. I think this is the final layout. It will only change if I make a mistake while piecing it. One third of each square ends up in seam allowance on the back, lots and lots of seams............

There is some minor trimming after assembling the Arboretum block. I finished 6 more blocks yesterday. I have 8 more backgrounds cut and 4 more colors of Aboriginal dots for the trees. I haven't decided how big this quilt will be. I think when I am tired of making the blocks I'll figure that out. I have only made C and D blocks so far for this second "Fractured" quilt. This gives a different center than with A and B blocks added.
