Bauhaus kitchen

Custom built kitchen system and INTERIOR for a PRIVATE HOUSE in Stockholm, Sweden. The frame is made with pine plywood and the drawer fronts are in different colours of valchromat — reminiscent the leaves in Swedish autumn. The drawer fronts can easily be changed and other seasonal colour combinations can be used.

Inspired by a woman they had never met, the homeowners of this 1950s home embarked on a colourful journey through time.

When Melbourne-based architect Nicholas Agius set out to design a new kitchen for his small 24m2 flat, he wanted to create something that complimented the original design of his art deco home.

Dries Otten focuses on creating on bold, colorful kitchens composed rather like abstract canvases. Allusions to De Stijl, abstract expressionism, and Memphis are apparent. A 1920 geometric mural, for example, inspired the painted backsplash of the kitchen in a house in Antwerp. His favorite color, a mid-tone gray-blue, he describes as Le Corbusier in feel. “We exist in a continuous line,” Otten says. “To me, it would be weird to design without referencing history.”
