The present research work was designed to identify the phytochemical constituents of methanolic e... more The present research work was designed to identify the phytochemical constituents of methanolic extract of roots of Withania somnifera. Withania somnifera is widely used in Ayurvedic medicine, the traditional medical system of India. It is a member of the family Solanaceae. Therapeutic importance of the different parts of this plant has a long history. Fresh mature roots were shade dried at room temperature, coarse powdered and extracted with methanol by Soxhlet's extraction method. Thereafter, the extract was concentrated using rotary flash evaporator to obtain semisolid crude extract with the yield of 10.682%. Withania somnifera root extract was investigated for the presence of phytochemical constituents. The preliminary phytochemical evaluation of the Withania somnifera root extract revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolics, carbohydrates, tannins, steroids and starch.

The present study investigates the anti-obesity activity of Luffa cylindrica in progesterone indu... more The present study investigates the anti-obesity activity of Luffa cylindrica in progesterone induced obesity model. Swiss albino mice were grouped into 7 (n = 6). Obesity was induced by administration of progesterone (10 mg/kg s.c.) for 28 days. Normal group received ad libitum and water. Disease control, positive control and treatment groups received progesterone (10 mg/kg s.c.). Further positive control group received Orlistat (10 mg/kg p.o). Treatment groups received hydro-alcoholic and fractionation extract of Luffa cylindrica at doses 400, 200, 100 mg/kg b.w. Food and water intake were recorded daily, Body weight, BMI and blood glucose were checked weekly. On completion of the study, animals were sacrificed and blood serum being utilized to accesses in vitro to estimate the various biochemical parameters. Materials and Methods: BALB/c mice with Erlich Ascites Carcinoma were used for the present study. Ethanolic extract of C. pulcherrima (EECP) was administered p.o. in three different doses i.e. 200, 400 and 800 mg/kg body weight, after 24 hr of tumor inoculation in mice for 14 days. The antianaphylactic activity was evaluated by using compound 48/80 induced anaphylaxis and mast cell stabilization was studied by using peritoneal mast cells of rats. The possible antianaphylactic and mast cell stabilization mechanism was evaluated by using compound 48/80 induced mast cell activation and level of nitric oxide in serum, rat peritoneal mast cells. The present study indicates that the isolated Cynodon dactylon compound (CDC) was potent and has significant (p<0.01 and p<0.001) inhibitory effect on compound 48/80 induced anaphylactic reaction and mast cell activation. This CDC also inhibited significantly, compound 48/80 induced increased level of nitric oxide in rat serum and rat peritoneal mast cells. We investigated the lipid lowering ability of simvastatin loaded gellan gum-carrageenan composite... more We investigated the lipid lowering ability of simvastatin loaded gellan gum-carrageenan composite polyspheres, which were prepared by ionotropic gelation/covalent crosslinking method. The surface morphology revealed that the polyspheres have rough and dense surface. The drug entrapment efficiency of the polyspheres prepared by ionic crosslinking was higher than those prepared by dual crosslinking. The in vitro drug release study indicated that the ionically crosslinked polyspheres discharged the drug quickly whereas, dual crosslinked polyspheres extended the drug release for longer period. The hypolipidemic activity performed on Wistar rats indicated that the polyspheres have effectively reduced the elevated total serum cholesterol and triglycerides.

limiting their usage in patients with congestive heart failure. The current study was
aimed to perform in silico docking study of bioactive phytoconstituents from Cissus
quadrangularis Linn. against the target Peroxisome proliferator-activated gamma
(PPAR-γ). Materials and Methods: The docking study was performed by using AutoDock
4.2. The chemical constituents were retrieved from the PubChem database. The
pharmacokinetic and toxicological parameters of each compound were predicted using
PreADMET online server. The drug-likeness character of each compounds were predicted
using Molsoft. Results: Quercetin scored highest drug-likeness character. Among the
seven compounds, four compounds scored positive drug-likeness score. Qaudrangularin
A showed highest binding affinity with the target protein. Discussion: All the compounds
showed the binding affinity with the target protein suggesting that the compounds from
Cissus quadrangularis can be utilized to target PPAR-γ in the management of diabetes.
The study suggests supporting the current study by performing wet lab experiments.
