Many of its uses have not been found yet. This research was conducted to investigate the antioxidant activity of the ethanolic extract of dried leaves of Bauhinia variegata in swiss albino mice. A total of forty eight (48) adult swiss albino mice were used. The mice were placed into eight groups: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8. Each of the groups contained six mice. Groups 4 and 5 were treated orally with doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight of the ethanolic extract respectively for 28 consecutive days. Group 1 was the control group and was fed only distilled water and feed. The catalase and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity obtained in the test groups were significantly higher (P>0.05) than that of the control mice. The observations recorded from this research were dose dependent. The observations of the present research may be utilized to enhance the nootropic and antioxidant activity and can be used for treatment of various diseases.

The present study was designed to evaluate the anti-anxiety activity of the leaves and seeds of Bauhinia variegata using elevated plus maze (EPM) model in Swiss albino mice. Albino mice were treated orally with different doses of the extracts (i.e.100, 200 mg/kg) and behavior was observed on the EPM. Buspirone (6mg/kg, p.o) was used as a positive control. Results show that methanol extract at the dose of 100mg/kg of the leaves of Bauhinia variegata and B. variegata seeds (200 mg/kg) markedly increased the average time spent in the open arms of the EPM. This effect was comparable to the effect produced by Buspirone. Hence this plant may be developed as a potentially useful anti anxiety agent.

The methanolic extract of Saraca indica bark was evaluated for locomotor activity using actophotometer. Four groups named control, standard and two test groups were used and each group contained 6 rats. Dosing was performed using oral route. The dose of Diazepam was 2mg/kg and dose of methanolic extract was 200 and 400 mg/Kg. The doses of 200 and 400 mg/Kg significantly depicted a marked reduction in the locomotor activity of rats. The methanolic extract was found to possess significant locomotors activity in rat models and it may be due to GABAergic inhibition in the CNS via membrane hyperpolarization which leads to a decrease in the firing rate of cortical neurons in the brain or may be due to direct activation of GABA receptor by the extract.

The methanolic extract of whole plant of Passiflora nepalensis was administered at different doses such as 150 and 225 mg/kg body weight and the study was compared with standard drug Aspirin (300mg/kg). The extract exhibited significant anti-inflammatory activity, which supports the traditional medicinal utilization of the plant.

The present study was designed to evaluate the anti-anxiety activity of the leaves and seeds of Bauhinia variegata using light-dark test in Swiss albino mice. Albino mice were treated orally with different doses of the extracts (i.e.100, 200 mg/kg) and behavior was observed on the light-dark test apparatus. Buspirone (6mg/kg, p.o) was used as a positive control. Results showed that methanol extract at the dose of 100mg/kg of the methanolic leaf extract of Bauhinia variegata and ethanolic seed extract of B. variegata seeds (200 mg/kg) markedly increased the time spent in the light area. This effect was comparable to the effect produced by Buspirone. Hence this plant may be used as a potentially useful anti -anxiety agent.

This plant has been used for the treatment of a variety of diseases. The plant of Cressa cretica showed antibilous, antituberculosis and expectorant, nootropic activities. Methods: This study was done to investigate the possible wound healing effects of Cressa cretica plant extract (CCE) using Excision and incision wound models. 24 swiss albino mice of either sex weighing between 25-30gm were randomly selected and divided into 4 equal groups. Group-I (control) received Control (7% HPMC gel), Group-II received Aloe vera gel (90%), III received Cressa cretica (4% HPMC gel) and Group IV received Cressa cretica (8% HPMC gel). Drug treatment was given for ten days. Results: CCE produced significant wound healing effect at dose of 4% HPMC gel & 8% HPMC gel administered for 10 days.
