The speakers in the room (SITR) corpus is a collaboration between Lab41 and SRI International, de... more The speakers in the room (SITR) corpus is a collaboration between Lab41 and SRI International, designed to be a freely available data set for speech and acoustics research in noisy room conditions. The main focus of the corpus is on distant microphone collection in a series of four rooms of different sizes and configurations. There are both foreground speech and background adversarial sounds, played through high-quality speakers in each room to create multiple, realistic acoustic environments. The foreground speech is played from a randomly rotating speaker to emulate head motion. Foreground speech consists of files from LibriVox audio collections and the background distractor sounds will consist of babble, music, HVAC, TV/radio, dogs, vehicles, and weather sounds drawn from the MUSAN collection. Each room has multiple sessions to exhaustively cover the background foreground combinations, and the audio is collected with twelve different microphones (omnidirectional lavalier, studio cardioid, and piezoelectric) placed strategically around the room. Curved crystals are used as diffraction elements for X-ray spectrometers in diagnosing laser plas... more Curved crystals are used as diffraction elements for X-ray spectrometers in diagnosing laser plasma sources at the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and on the Z machine at Sandia National Laboratories. Reflectivity curves for various curved crystals used at these facilities have been measured in National Security Technologies' (NSTec) X-ray laboratory. The X-ray source is a diode arrangement with a dual goniometer system that orients a monochromator and the sample crystal to the appropriate Bragg angles. The reflectivity curve is then measured at energies that ranged from 0.7 to 15.8 keV. This presentation covers reflectivity curve measurements on circular cylindrical KAP crystals and elliptical cylindrical PET crystals. The integrated reflectivity, the curve width, and the peak reflectivity were determined. The elliptically curved pentaerythritol (PET) crystals used in the Supersnout 2 x-ray spectromete... more The elliptically curved pentaerythritol (PET) crystals used in the Supersnout 2 x-ray spectrometer on the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have been calibrated photometrically in the range of 5.5-16 keV. The elliptical geometry provides broad spectral coverage and minimizes the degradation of spectral resolution due to the finite source size. The reflectivity curve of the crystals was measured using a x-ray line source. The integrated reflectivity (R(I)) and width of its curve (ΔΘ) were the measurements of major interest. The former gives the spectrometer throughput, and the latter gives the spectrometer resolving power. Both parameters are found to vary considerably with the radius of curvature of the crystal and with spectral energy. The results are attributed to an enhanced mosaic effect due to the increase in curvature. There are also contributions from the crystal cleaving and gluing processes.
Recent advances in diagnostics and analysis enables highly precise measurements of material prope... more Recent advances in diagnostics and analysis enables highly precise measurements of material properties at very high pressures. When quartz is used as a standard (reference) material for impedance-matched experiments with transparent samples, VISAR is able to track the shock velocity throughout the experiment. This enables the velocities at the impedance-matched point to be determined with an uncertainty of ˜1%. Similarly, the effects of steadiness and curvature can readily be evaluated. These refinements provide precision EOS data previously unattainable at these high pressures. We report on EOS measurements (at 1 to 10 Mbar) performed at the OMEGA Laser Facility. This work was supported by U.S. Department of Energy Office of Inertial Confinement Fusion under Cooperative Agreement No. DE-FC52-08NA28302.
