In this paper we present an approach for deep-sea survey based on photogrammetry using a remotely... more In this paper we present an approach for deep-sea survey based on photogrammetry using a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV). A hybrid technique gives us real-time results, sufficient for piloting the ROV from the surface vessel and ensuring a uniform coverage of the site as well as recording high-definition images using an on-board computer that will later provide a survey with millimetric precision. The measurements are made without any contact and are non invasive. The time required on site is minimal, and corresponds to the time needed by the ROV to cover the zone. With the photos taken at a frame rate synchronized at 10 Hz, the ROV required two hours to perform the experiment presented in this article: The survey of the Roman shipwreck Cap Bénat 4, at a depth of 328 metres. The approach presented in this paper was developed in the scope of the ROV 3D project. This project, financed by the “Fond Unique Interministériel” (FUI) for three years, brings together two industrial partners and a research laboratory. Thus, AI-assisted diagnosis is considered as a possible solution for this issue. Despite the great advances brought by deep learning and especially convolutional neural networks (CNNs), computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems are still not used in clinical practice. This may be explained by the dermatologist’s fear of being misled by a false negative and the assimilation of CNNs to a “black box”, making their decision process difficult to understand by a non-expert. Decision theory, especially game theory, is a potential solution as it focuses on identifying the best decision option that maximizes the decision-maker’s expected utility. Manually detecting skin lesions (SL) from dermoscopy images is a difficult and time-consuming process. Thus, researchers designed computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems to assist dermatologists in the early detection of skin cancer. Moreover, SL detection naturally exhibits a long-tailed distribution due to the complex patient-level conditions and the existence of rare diseases. Very limited research for handling this issue exists on SL detection. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end decoupled training for the long-tailed skin lesion classification task. Specifically, we initialized the training of a network with a novel loss function Lf able to guide the model to a better representation of the features. Children or adults with ASD often have some common repetitive behaviours or self-stimulatory behaviours. These behaviours usually refer to specific behaviours such as flapping, rocking, spinning, etc. This work investigates these behaviours and provides a benchmark dataset for researchers. In our knowledge, this dataset is the first 3D-dataset available online1 in the area of 3D recognitions of complex and repetitive behaviours of autistic people. The 3D-Autism Dataset (3D-AD) is captured with Kinect sensor. We explore different categories of autistic repetitive behaviours: static and dynamic ones, simple and complex ones. Experiments have been done using dynamic time warping to detect these behaviours.

Several tasks requiring high precision and reproducibility must be automated. In the context of secure Integrated Circuits (ICs) characterization, tasks such as power analysis are commonly automated. However, very few automations exist for tools calibration, while recent characterization schemes encounter mechanical constraints. Computer vision, flexible tool used in various fields, gives opportunities to address these constraints. In the case of laser fault injections, several positioning adjustments are required to ensure a maximal energy transmission in a targeted point. An accurate focalization of the laser beam is reached by using an autofocus system. Such a system is obtained by analyzing the camera view of the IC in the time-frequency domain. Whatever the method to disturb an IC, every secure characterization should be reproducible. By exploiting computer vision assistance, fault injection can be automated by mixing vision techniques to build a full or partial view of an IC and automatically identify the targeted IC and focus the perturbation on a chosen pattern in the image. A reliable pattern detection is implemented by studying spatial consistency of image’s remarkable features represented by graphs. This paper presents several computer vision techniques to address above problems.

The selection of robust features as labels is determinant in this case of study, where hard conditions are dealt with: few relevant topological information, a potentially huge number of outliers and low contrasted images resulting in noisy graphs. Firstly, the image texture is reliably caught through a scale, rotation and intensity invariant histogram of oriented gradients. Secondly, in structures presenting numerous symmetries, the graph shape is locally registered while discriminated using weight from a super-increasing series. Coupled to the flexibility of the graph tensor product-based similarity metric, the matching framework achieves satisfying results.

ROV 3D project aims at developing innovative tools which link underwater photogrammetry and acous... more ROV 3D project aims at developing innovative tools which link underwater photogrammetry and acoustic measurements from an active underwater sensor. The results will be 3D high resolution surveys of underwater sites. The new means and methods developed aim at reducing the investigation time in situ, and proposing comprehensive and non-intrusive measurement tools for the studied environment. In this paper, we made an investigation to find at first a pre-processing method of underwater images that do not require a priori knowledge of the scene in order to increase the repeatability of SIFT and SURF descriptors and, in a second time, finding a method to compute distances which will be less costly in terms of execution time for finding corresponding points.

The Shawbak archaeological project is a specific and integrated project between medieval archaeological research and computer vision done thanks to a long cooperation between University of Florence and CNRS. Focusing mainly on stratigraphical analysis of upstanding structures we provide archaeologists a two-step pipeline. surveys conducted from a submarine and guided by knowledge-representation combined with a
logical approach (ontology). Two major issues are discussed in this paper. The first concerns
deep-sea surveys using photogrammetry from a submarine. Here the goal was to obtain a set
of images that completely covered the selected site. Subsequently and based on these images,
a low-resolution 3D model is obtained in real-time, followed by a very high-resolution model
produced back in the laboratory. The second issue involves the extraction of known artefacts present
on the site. This aspect of the research is based on an a priori representation of the knowledge
involved using systematic reasoning. Two parallel processes were developed to represent the
photogrammetric process used for surveying as well as for identifying archaeological artefacts
visible on the sea floor. Mapping involved the use of the CIDOC-CRM system (International
Committee for Documentation (CIDOC)—Conceptual Reference Model)—This is a system that has
been previously utilised to in the heritage sector and is largely available to the established scientific
community. The proposed theoretical representation is based on procedural attachment; moreover, a
strong link is maintained between the ontological description of the modelled concepts and the Java
programming language which permitted 3D structure estimation and modelling based on a set of
oriented images. A very recently discovered shipwreck acted as a testing ground for this project; the
Xelendi Phoenician shipwreck, found off the Maltese coast, is probably the oldest known shipwreck
in the western Mediterranean. The approach presented in this paper was developed in the scope
of the GROPLAN project (Généralisation du Relevé, avec Ontologies et Photogrammétrie, pour
l'Archéologie Navale et Sous-marine). Financed by the French National Research Agency (ANR)
for four years, this project associates two French research laboratories, an industrial partner, the
University of Malta, and Texas A & M University.
