Ethogram Theory and the Theories of Copernicus "et al" : beyond analogy, but a real similarity
Back in the 1500s, Copernicus "stepped back" and looked at more and more carefully. He gave us a reason to think that, indeed, everything does NOT revolve around the Earth.
In the next century, Galileo Galilei and Keplar gave us more reasons to think this way. Keplar described orbits of the planets as elliptical and Galileo showed that OTHER non-Earth objects had things going around them (e.g. Saturn -- the moons). Finally, with Newton's work, the orbits of the planets were mathematically described.
Now, I firmly think Ethogram Theory is more than an analogy to that above, but has REAL similarity. Ethogram Theory "steps back" and looks at more (and more carefully as well). Ethogram Theory looks at cognitive development in a way like Piaget, but Piaget's theory is merely just descriptive and puts forward nothing like proximate causes; thus, in a way Ethogram Theory, with regard to Piaget's particular theory, is only an analogy to Piaget's, with Ethogram Theory empirical and totally investigateable ; the weakness is not with Ethogram Theory but with Piaget's. Ethogram Theory, like Piaget's , reckons cognitive development as central to most major developments in Psychology. Ethogram Theory yet sees way to see similar stages, not only with Piaget's. but phenomenology described by other major stage theorists. Some of these stage theories, Piaget's in particular, actually have good evidence of universality among peoples (despite being only descriptive); such is seen in all cultures tested. But, by being just descriptive, Piaget doesn't NOT even point us at proximate causes, AND to totally empirical things that could be empirically investigated -- exactly verified or amended, totally INVESTIGATABLE with modern eye-tracking technology.
This is what Ethogram Theory does. If you are familiar with Ethogram Theory, indeed : material, empirical, actual, directly observable phenomenon are cited for the cognitive stage transitions. These are perceptual shifts, often attentional/perceptual shifts (in what the subject looks at, and seeks to see better and more of).
I would argue that something like these shifts is necessary. Nothing except something like Ethogram Theory stages, points clearly to anything fully empirical.
Finally : The productive thinking about Ethogram Theory would be BY FAR mainly inductive processes. And, in fact, inductive processes ARE the very main way [ at least ] ALL other mammals process information and learn. I firmly think that the major types of learning in humans are via such inductive processes, in both child and adult -- for most processing of information both for advanced scientists and babies. [ There are qualitatively different types of inductive learning, varying with the stages. ]

This is quite a unique position. Very few studies or conceptualizations make much of 'intrusions'* that occur during meditation
(be it simple breathing meditation or loving-kindness (metta) meditation). Though it makes perfect sense that you, with
your quiet mind, could well-process and thoroughly process 'intrusions' making full use of an otherwise free working
memory, typically only the after-effects AFTER meditation are focused on when "benefits of meditation" are considered or
assessed. Yet, these studies on effects of meditation OUTSIDE the meditation process offer essentially nothing in the way of an
explanation based on psychological process. The benefits to thinking (conceptualizing or active processing) that could naturally
occur DURING meditation by just simply 'noting' the 'intrusions' have a very plausible psychological basis (in terms of the well-
recognized psychological processes associated with working memory and long-term memory: declarative and procedural memory).
[ FOOTNOTE: 'intrusions' are content (thoughts, feelings, sensations) that are other than the object of concentration (e.g.
other than your breathing or loving-kindness or whatever else you have as a good object of concentration). ]
This concentration on only "after-effects" seems likely a large over-sight when one is trying to do INSIGHT meditation.
During insight meditation, 'intrusions' (some quite welcome 'intrusions') can be conceptualized as making full
use of working memory EVEN when one always limits one's response to simply just 'noting' the intrusions, and, in fact,
the basically natural processing that may occur during just-noting 'intrusions' may well (at times) be incredibly
adaptive. Just quickly, but calmly, noting intrusions is always what is recommended. Its results, too, could carry over into
regular day-to-day life. It is thought that a full-blown moral Buddhist life, and including the seeking to see 'things
as they really are' (ardently striving), in regular day-to-day life is likely necessary to have any likelihood of good
useful intrusions.

From a major Update to the Human Ethology and Development (Ethogram Theory) Project (https://www.... more From a major Update to the Human Ethology and Development (Ethogram Theory) Project (https://www.researchgate.net/project/Human-Ethology-and-Development-Ethogram-Theory) This neo-Piagetian Theory (Ethogram Theory) completes (fills the gap in) Piaget's Theory (and that of others) Though many may not know about it: Piaget described TWO sorts of equilibration: one, a good balance between assimilation and accommodation AND, THE OTHER, a balance between remaining with the behavior pattern sets of a given Period (stage) OR progressing to the next stage. This second sort of equilibration was never well-explained in any way by Piaget, and he knew it. He only said it depended on "biological maturation". (Because this was a continuing question for Piaget, there is no wonder why the last book he wrote in his life was on Equilibration.) ETHOGRAM THEORY: This neo-Piagetian Theory (described in this Project) completes (fills the gap in) Piaget's Theory: it describes generally, and then in some detail, the OBSERVABLE biological/behavioral adaptation processes that are the basis of the stages. ALL HYPOTHESES REQUIRE JUST DIRECT OBSERVATION (of proximate causes) AND ARE COMPLETELY TESTABLE (and thus are verifiable). [ Modern eye-tracking technology and perhaps computer-assisted analysis likely are needed. ] This is the ONLY theory that NOT ONLY fills this major gap in ALL Piagetian and ALL neo-Piagetian theories BUT ALSO: For the first time, in any true and meaningful way, brings "innate factors" and learning actually TOGETHER SIMULTANEOUSLY-that which is needed to end the long-standing dualism. There is no other theory like this. This is my offering to you. It takes only about 450 pages of explication for FULL JUSTIFICATION, to understand how the details this theory looks for are important. READ THAT (it's ALL on researchgate). IN ADDITION: This theory also solves 3 out of 5 (or so) things-in-theory that "hold up" General Artificial Intelligence; PLUS, it is a concrete enough outline of that which is involved in cognitive development so that it is USEFUL, IN A FULLY PRACTICAL SENSE, for General AI (see my other Project relevant to this). Another Important ADDITION: I must add that this long paper points out the unproven, likely incorrect "operating" 'assumptions' (basic 'foundational' beliefs behind, and for, VIRTUALLY ALL THINKING AND JUSTIFICATIONS) prevalent throughout psychology. _AND_ it states and describes the alternative (more likely, biologically compatible) assumptions one should use. Many of the ramifications of the new assumptions for much better science (a science of psychology) are spelled out (in the 323-page Collected Essays-written recently to explicate all that was just indicated).

I provide a theory (major developmental parts yet to be researched) that provides AI and General Artificial Intelligence (AGI) with a CLEAR (concrete, usable) description of the INCEPTION of abstract thought (concepts) and abstract processing. This, needless to say, will be (is) ESSENTIAL TO AGI. (This psychology theory and techniques I describe IS THE ONLY THEORY that describes SUCH in concrete USABLE form.) And, Dear Psychology, if you find the procedure I clearly describe and indicate (the research involving eye tracking technologies) and THAT leads to discovering basic perceptual shifts (which I also describe), THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO (at this point) acknowledge ME: IF the clearly described kind of research (eye tracking discovering the beginning basic perceptual shifts with ontogeny, and associated with developing abstract capabilities) I indicate CAN be found usable-and-useful for findings that yields the results indicated _and_ IF, IN FACT, all this IS FOUND, THEN the fact of the existence of this major foundations-finding procedure will be called, "the Jesness principle for empiricism" **.
