An important range of existing engineered industrial parts consists of plastic materials that are... more An important range of existing engineered industrial parts consists of plastic materials that are reinforced with carbon fibers. Due to their excellent mechanical and thermal properties, machined mechanical parts made from reinforced polyetheretherketone (PEEK) composite materials have become standard in many high-technology engineering fields such as aerospace, automotive, and electronics. There is however a crucial need to predict the machining criteria for reinforced PEEK composite materials in order to optimize their fabrication process. In this article, the process parameters including cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut are investigated. A fuzzy rule-based model was derived to predict the surface roughness parameters Ra and Rt, in dry turning of reinforced PEEK with 30% of carbon fibers using TiN-coated cutting tools. The model was identified using results of experiments carried out according to Taguchi method. Predictions of the fuzzy-based model were found to fit, very well, experimental data with a correlation coefficient as high as 99%.

The abatement on suspended solids reaches 60 % in the latter case, and rises up to 90% when ferric chloride is injected. The required residence-time in the whole unit is only 15 minutes, settling included. The sludge has a better settling ability than sludge from classical devices which could reduce the cost of the sludge treatment itself.

Resume L'interet de l'utilisation d'un lit fluidise sans reactif, prealablement a la ... more Resume L'interet de l'utilisation d'un lit fluidise sans reactif, prealablement a la decantation, a ete recemment mis en evidence. Ce travail compare les performances, en epuration primaire d'eau urbaine, d'un floculateur a lit fluidise associe a un decanteur multitubulaire a celles obtenues avec des floculateurs homogenes, jar-test et floc-test. Les donnees experimentales en autofloculation montrent que, malgre des conditions energetiques moins favorables, le lit fluidise permet d'obtenir des performances interessantes, 60% d'abattement de turbidite pour un temps de passage global inferieur a 15 min. Ces effets sont probablement dus aux collecteurs granulaires et a l'attrition des flocs formes. Les boues extraites sont comparables a des boues primaires avec une vitesse de decantation toutefois plus elevee, car superieure a 3 m/h. En presence de chlorure ferrique les performances sont comparables dans les trois systemes mais les doses de reactif requises en lit fluidise sont deux fois moindres ce qui diminue d'autant le flux de boues residuaires.

The hole erosion test was developed in order to study erosion phenomenon which occurs in cracks a... more The hole erosion test was developed in order to study erosion phenomenon which occurs in cracks appearing in hydraulic infrastructures such as dams. This test enables describing experimentally the erosive characteristics of soils by means of an index which is called erosion rate and a critical tension which indicates the threshold of surface erosion initiation. The objective of this work is to give modelling of this experiment by means of a simplified analytical approach. The erosion law is derived by taking into account the flow regime. This law shows that the erosion occurring in the tube is controlled by a first order dynamics where only two parameters are involved: the characteristic time linked to the erosion rate and the stress shear threshold for which erosion begins to develop. RESUMEN El ensayo de erosion de tubo se desarrollo con el fin de estudiar el fenomeno de la erosion producida en las grie- tas que se hallan en determinadas obras hidraulicas como por ejemplo las presas. La prueba permite describir experimen- talmente las caracteristicas erosivas del suelo mediante un indice llamado velocidad de erosion y una tension critica que caracteriza el inicio del fenomeno. El objetivo de este trabajo es modelar este ensayo segun un enfoque analitico simplificado. La ley de evolucion del feno- meno de erosion se obtiene asi en funcion del regimen de drenaje. Esta norma muestra que la erosion originada en el tubo esta controlada por una dinamica de primer grado donde intervienen solo dos parametros: el tiempo caracteristico del feno- meno vinculado a la velocidad de erosion y el limite maximo a partir del cual se desencadena.

Ce phenomene peut causer des degâts catastrophiques aux ouvrages de genie civil. Un modele general permettant de simuler l'erosion interne a ete propose et valide recemment. Les resultats de simulation obtenus par ce modele ont demontre sa capacite a predire plusieurs mecanismes qui caracterisent l'erosion interne. Dans ce travail, ce modele est applique afin d'etudier l'influence des parametres du sol sur le debit maximum d'erosion et sur la concentration maximale en solide fluidise, produit de l'erosion. Une technique statistique fondee sur les plans d'experience de Taguchi est utilisee. Sont consideres dans l'analyse cinq facteurs qui comprennent les parametres de resistance a l'erosion du sol, sa porosite critique, sa permeabilite initiale et la pression de confinement. The robust design of turning parameters is dealing with the optimization of surface roughness and... more The robust design of turning parameters is dealing with the optimization of surface roughness and cutting force in turning of reinforced polyetheretherketone (PEEK) with 30% of carbon fibers (PEEK CF30) using TiN-coated cutting tools. The selected turning parameters include the cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut. Grey–Taguchi method is combining orthogonal array design of experiments with relational analysis, which enables the determination of the optimal combination of turning parameters with the multiple criteria. The basic aim of grey relational analysis is to find the grey relational grade, which can be used for the optimization conversion from a multi-criteria problem to a single objective problem. This study not only proposes a novel optimization technique, but also contributes the satisfactory solution for multiple CNC turning objectives with profound insight.
