Distributional impact of corporate extraction and (un)authorised clandestine mining at and around large-scale copper- and cobalt-mining sites in DR Congo

Abstract
•LSM-ASM literature overlooks distributional impact of clandestine extraction.•Arrangements and processes for “clandestine” extraction are (un)authorised.•These arrangements have wider implications than corruption and conflict risk.•Positive implications include more favourable local resource distribution.•There are “winners” and “losers” from the functioning of the property rights regime.
