Nothing better to be gardening with the voice of a morning dove in the back ground. I'm so ready to start planting.

Svelte with a long, pointed tail. Plain brown overall with dark spots on wing. Juvenile is covered with pale scaly pattern, but is much larger and longer-tailed than ground doves. Widespread and common throughout much of North America, from southern Canada to Panama, including the Caribbean. Found in a variety of habitats from agricultural fields to lightly wooded areas. Welcome back! It's Pinterest time. It has gotten too hot in Louisiana to sit out-of-doors. I managed a few minutes in the shade while a hot breeze and a cool drink kept me and the birds company. How the doves have the energy to fuss over the same feeder is beyond me. Of course, watching them peaked my interest in whether I had mourning doves on my bird board. I did not. This morning I’m thankful for the beautiful sound of the doves in our neighborhood. My favorite of all the bird songs.

Mourning doves-they mate for life! I love to hear their coo in the morning.

I generally have a male and female that stay close to my house all year feeding on the ground on the seeds that the smaller birds have dropped. I've had up to a dozen in a flock sporadically come for feedings though.
