Walter Kaiser Jr.

Walter C. Kaiser, Jr. (lahir 11 April 1933) adalah seorang sarjana Perjanjian Lama evangelikal, penulis, pembicara publik, dan edukator asal Amerika Serikat. Kaiser adalah Colman M. Mockler distinguished Professor of Old Testament dan mantan Presiden Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary di South Hamilton Massachusetts, pensiun pada tanggal 30 Juni 2006. Ia digantikan oleh James Emery White.

Kaiser lahir pada tahun 1933 di Folcroft, Pennsylvania dari orang tuanya, Walter Christian Kaiser Sr. dan Estelle Jaworsky Kaiser, yang merupakan anggota Gereja Baptis Jerman.^[1] Ia meraih gelar A.B. dari Wheaton College, gelar B.D. dari Wheaton Graduate School, dan kedua gelar M.A. dan Ph.D. dalam bidang studi Mediterranean dari Brandeis University. Sampai tahun 2006, ia menjabat sebagai presiden Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (GCTS). Sebelum memegang jabatan pada GCTS ia menjadi dekan akademik dan Professor of Old Testament pada Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, di mana ia mengajar lebih dari 20 tahun. Pada tahun 1977 ia menjabat sebagai presiden Evangelical Theological Society. Sebagai penerima penghargaan Danforth Teacher Study Grant, Kaiser adalah anggota Wheaton College Scholastic Honor Society.

Sebelum menetap di Gordon-Conwell, Kaiser mengajar Alkitab dan arkeologi pada Wheaton College dan mengajar di Trinity Evangelical Divinity School dalam berbagai kapasitas. Selain mengajar dalam departemen Perjanjian Lama, ia menjadi wakil presiden senior dalam bidang edukasi, dekan akademik, dan wakil presiden senior dalam bidang belajar jarak jauh dan pelayanan. Kaiser juga duduk pada dewan penyantun sejumlah organisasi Kristen.

Kaiser berkontribusi pada berbagai publikasi seperti Journal for the Study of the Old Testament, Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, Christianity Today, Westminster Theological Journal, dan Evangelical Quarterly. Ia juga menulis banyak buku. Kaiser merupakan seorang kritikus dan penolak teori Hipotesis dokumen.^[2]

Kaiser dan istrinya, Marge, sekarang tinggal di South Hamilton, Massachusetts. Mereka mempunyai empat anak dan tujuh cucu.
