January 26 2009

I think I may go do some long exposures outside tonight if I can bear the cold.

In any case, here's some patriotic cupcakes I forgot to post.

January 20 2009 -- Eastern Inaugural Ball

Taken with my girlfriend's Sony DSC-W90 point and shoot. It is a nice little camera, and I was impressed with the image stabilization, and surprisingly pretty happy with the noise level at iso 1600 on such a small sensor with densely packed pixels. It's not the false color and hot pixels you often see (although that may be noise reduction), but it's obvious even at these small sizes.

Still, really wish I had my D40.

Capital at night from Union station.

Union station is nice, and I really loved the blue on the ceiling.

I need to find out who this band is, but they were great. It was rather surreal to see a gaggle of middle aged people in tuxes and ballgowns dancing to "Play that funky music white boy", "Brick House", and "The Electric Slide".

Shooting notes : I brought my SB-400 flashgun but hardly used it. Mostly just shot available light, but it took a lot of exposure compensation to keep the brightly lit stages from blowing out when half the pictures is audience. I found spot metering worked very well.
