Sandstone

“Sandstone has been the most abundantly quarried building stone in Tasmania since the early days of European settlement”. Some of the early deposits where of very poor quality resulting in deterioration over time.

Heritage Stone currently extract Linden Sandstone which has been used historically on many Hobart buildings, most notably the Hobart GPO, 1901. Linden Sandstone has a uniform brown, greyish-orange bulk colour with occasional subtle brown liesegang rings. It is a fine to medium grain stone with high strength and low porosity, it is an A Grade sandstone suitable for Restoration projects.

Heritage Stone also have access to other sandstone quarries of varying colour and quality. We are continually looking for other potential deposits
