To be honest, when the barrettes arrived in the mail, I didn’t think much of them. I thought, “Ok, I’ll use them for the challenges, but after that, I’ll probably chuck ’em.” But after styling my hair with them, I did a complete 180.
The red gemstone hair ornament was actually a ponytail holder, but since there was no way that I could fit my thick hair into the golf-ball sized elastic band, I had to get creative. Using a bobbypin, I transformed it into a barrette and pinned it to my hair to the side.
The cascading barrette looked Asian-inspired and suitable for an updo. I was glad that I was wearing my high-collared shirt on the day that I decided to do the challenge. Using gel I put my hair into a high bun and let the barrette fall gracefully as it was designed.
With these barrettes at hand, I can definitely use them to spice up my outfit. I’d probably wear them as I’ve shown here– the red one for playful occasions and the cascading one for formal events. Whichever the case, they’re certainly gems worthy of keeping.
