I actually stained my wood with one coat of an ebony color but if you feel more comfortable working with black acrylic paint or black spray paint, it works just as well. Once the stain was dry, I brushed on two coats of white chalk paint. A disposable foam brush will prevent any brush marks when working with chalk style paint, and it’s easy clean up.
