At FOSDEM, Bonnie Mehring and Marc Prud'hommeaux met to talk about Marc's Free Software initiative, the App Fair Project. This project is a marketplace for all devices and especially also for iOS devices that only distributes Free Software applications. Its goal is to foster a more accessible and inclusive Free Software ecosystem.

February started with FOSDEM! It was great to meet some of you there before we meet again for “I Love Free Software Day”! In recent weeks, we shared our demands for the coming German elections, great news about Router Freedom, and an update about DMA. Moreover, the Ada movie is now available in French and we published two podcast episodes.

The next German government must finally push for the controllability, security, and sovereignty of the public digital infrastructure. As Free Software is a prerequisite for this, the FSFE is making 4 key demands: "Public Money? Public Code!", securing long-term funding for Free Software, deepening Free Software knowledge in administrations, and monitoring progress.

The FSFE does great work to further software freedom locally, nationally and in the EU and I enjoy the podcast and the News RSS so it felt natural to become a supporter. I also want to be more involved with the free software community.
Se il software viene dato in licenza come software libero, possiamo esaminarlo, ed essere sicuri che faccia quello che deve fare (e nient'altro). Le istituzioni pubbliche sviluppano software, e ingaggiano aziende per farlo, e i cittadini dovrebbero essere proprietari e poter riutilizzare tutto il codice. Contribuisco al Software Libero con le traduzioni, con l'aiuto agli utenti, trovando alternative di software libero all'università... ma non sono in grado di raggiungere i responsabili della politica, né persone o istituzioni in altri paesi.

La parte più divertente di essere attivo per la FSFE è incontrare persone vere e scambiarsi informazioni sostanziali su questioni rilevanti. Queste possono essere qualsiasi cosa da fare il rooting del proprio cellulare, ad imparare Git, a capire il business basato sul Software Libero, a parlare nelle pubbliche organizzazioni circa l'uso degli standard aperti.
