EW's editorial guidelines Published on July 23, 2024 11:50AM EDT After decades of toiling away behind the scenes, the powers that be at gaming studio GearBox are bringing the wildly popular video game franchise Borderlands to the big screen for its first movie adaptation under director Eli Roth. Lilith, Tannis, Claptrap, Krieg, Tiny Tina, Roland... the gang's all here, just now in live action. Get to know this band of kooky characters from the gaming world of Pandora and the Hollywood A-listers bringing them to life when the movie hits theaters on Aug. 9. 01 of 06 Lilith (played by Cate Blanchett) Lionsgate - Design: Alex Sandoval Widely considered the games' main character, this Siren isn't like the ones from classical myth, though she does have incredible abilities, like "phasewalking" (invisibility). 02 of 06 Tiny Tina (played by Ariana Greenblatt) Lionsgate - Design: Alex Sandoval She may be 13, but she has an explosive personality — and also actual explosives. Tina lost her parents at a young age, but she found her place in the world. 03 of 06 Patricia Tannis (played by Jamie Lee Curtis) Lionsgate - Design: Alex Sandoval This scientist and archaeologist is an odd duck (not literally), but suffering prolonged isolation on a harsh planet after watching your colleagues die can do that to a gal. Jamie Lee Curtis previews 'wacky' Borderlands movie, reveals new Tannis character details 04 of 06 Roland (played by Kevin Hart) Lionsgate - Design: Alex Sandoval A former member of Atlas' private military, the Crimson Lance, Roland knows his way around all sorts of weapons, including his signature gun of choice, the Scorpio Turret. 05 of 06 Krieg (played by Florian Munteanu) Lionsgate - Design: Alex Sandoval Psychos are usually...well, psycho! But Krieg is one you can actually play in the games. Though one half of this split personality is absolutely ludicrous, he's always a fun time. 06 of 06 Claptrap (voiced by Jack Black) Lionsgate - Design: Alex Sandoval This general purpose droid is a big part of getting players to where they need to go in the games. He will chat your ear off if you let 'em, but you can't help feel for the bot.
