You're cheating

edit

Asturian is 62nd by "gloss definitions", the only measure that matters. "Definitions" includes bot-created inflected forms. They shouldn't count. --Vahag (talk) 11:58, 4 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Enough translations

edit

Let me know when you think there are enough translations. Delay it if you can, because I’m rewriting the program. — Ungoliant (falai) 18:12, 14 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Enough translations? There will never be "enough translations"!!! I will just get bored of adding them, that's all. --Back on the list (talk) 20:44, 14 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Enough for generating the automatic entries. The program adds a definition for each of the translation tables where it occurs, but once an entry is created, it won’t be updated. So it’s a good idea to add as many translations as you can before generating the entries.
For example: [1]. If I had created this entry when only dough had pasta as a translation it would be missing a whole lot of definitions. — Ungoliant (falai) 14:12, 15 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Apparently, I just created that Portuguese entry just by clicking on the link...I'd like to the same with Asturian, yeah! Anyway, I can't tell you when I think there are "enough" Asturian translations already here - but we could do it now, if you like. That way I'll know how it works, and I can regenerate it again later. --Back on the list (talk) 18:08, 15 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Clicking the link created the entry? That won’t do. You will have to fix this bug before doing it, because some entries have mistakes that need to be corrected by hand (in this case, it misidentified massa as an alternative form instead of a synonym, as massa and pasta are only two letter apart). — Ungoliant (falai) 14:35, 16 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Also, you will have to teach me how to figure out the parameters for the Asturian HWL and conjugation templates. — Ungoliant (falai) 14:45, 16 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
I'd be happy to. What do you want to know? And what is HWL? --Back on the list (talk) 18:30, 16 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Headword line. — Ungoliant (falai) 18:54, 16 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
grave has been overset to Asturian. — Ungoliant (falai) 16:23, 31 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, Asturian is a total bitch with the alternative forms. Differing the word from one village to the next. --Back on the list (talk) 18:54, 1 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Did you fix the bug? — Ungoliant (falai) 15:38, 12 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I'm not sure which bug you're referring to. And also, I've still no idea how to use this semi-automatic program that I believe we're talking about. --Back on the list (talk) 18:39, 12 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Above you said that you clicked the link and it created an entry. That’s the bug; the link is only supposed to open the editing window and add the text to it.
Oh, I see. That's the bug you were talking about. Well, when I said that I clicked the link and then it created the page, I mean that I had to click the "Save Page' button. So I guess "the bug" is not really a bug. --Back on the list (talk) 14:40, 13 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Here is the page for the semi-automated alternative forms. Download the file and change the extension to .htm, then open it with a browser. DON’T just press save. Always check that the content is correct, especially the inflection parameters. Also, due to software limitations some entries may be added in incorrect alphabetical order, so look out for that as well.
I still need to create the functions to calculate the Asturian inflection parameters, but that shouldn’t take long. — Ungoliant (falai) 14:54, 13 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the dump. I put it at User talk:Back on the list/Wonderfool sucks. I tried to use it, but there's a bit of formatting work to do. I'll look into it sometime unless you beat me to it. --Back on the list (talk) 18:34, 13 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Did you try saving it as an htm file and opening it with your browser? — Ungoliant (falai) 18:39, 13 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Yep, that did the trick! Awesome work, UM! I'll try not to destroy many pages. --Back on the list (talk) 18:49, 13 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
The program generates a page with a fuckload of such links (13000 for Portuguese). Once you fix the bug I’ll send you the page. — Ungoliant (falai) 19:01, 12 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
Here are the lemmas. Note:
  • Pastebin has a size limit so I had to take a few links out.
  • The program tries to guess whether a word is a synonym or an alternative for based on how similar they are. It often gets it wrong so watch out for that.
  • Uppercase words in the head= parameters are converted to lowercase. Remember to fix that when the word really is uppercase.
  • The program tries to add context labels to the definitions, always check that they are correct.
  • Be careful not to readd entries that have already been created since the last dump.
  • Don’t add SOP or uncitable entries.
  • I’ll be watching you. If you add to many wrong entries, I won’t help you anymore.
  • Hail Caesar! If it’s not done by sunrise, I’ll cut your balls off.

Hi!

Are you sure that categories should be placed between the entries? ([2] I thought they have to be at the bottom. Best regards --Yoursmile (talk) 10:35, 14 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

It is a convention that the categories be put between the language sections. --kc_kennylau (talk) 10:39, 14 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
