editOne of the 324 simplified characters introduced by the Republic of China (Kuomintang government) in 1935 as a simplified form of 鬨/哄 (hòng) but was later retracted in 1936.
This character is obsolete in modern use. In the 1956 first round revision table of variant Chinese characters (第一批异体字整理表) by the People's Republic of China, 鬨/哄 (hòng) and 閧/哄 were listed as variant forms that were replaced by 哄 as the orthodox form.
