Etymology
editFrom Proto-Hellenic *ároura, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂r̥h₃-w-rh₂ (“cultivated land”); cognate with Sanskrit उर्वरा (urvárā). The sense ‘arura’ is a semantic loan from Egyptian sṯꜣt (“arura”).
