Borrowed from {{bor|zh|mnc|ᠣᡵᠣᠰ}},from {{der|zh|mn|Орос}}/{{m|mn|ᠣᠷᠤᠰ}}, from {{der|zh|cmg|ᠣᠷᠤᠰ᠋}}, from {{der|zh|orv|Русь}}. Cognates include modern {{cog|mn|Орос}}, {{m|mn|ᠣᠷᠤᠰ}}.
 
Mongolian does not allow word-initial ''r-'', and regressive vowel harmony generated the prosthetic word-initial vowel, which is retained in Chinese as an extra syllable.
