OA vs OP

edit

Olympic airlines is defunct. Hence, no longer operates. Since the article Olympic Airlines pertains to an airline that used to fly with the IATA code OA, that code should remain. Olympic Airlines never used the code OP, and therefore that code should not be indicated on that page. Furthermore, the greek government cannot change an IATA code, they need to get an approval from IATA first. Since you have no source on the matter, OA code stays. Besides, from what i understant, they temporarily changed the code to OP in order to avoid confusion with the new airline. There shouldnt be any confusion, since one airline is bankrupt, and the other one just began operations, even though they have the same IATA code.

British airways article - input on desired

edit

Hello there. I wondered if you would be open to a discussion regarding the ongoing fleet images' issue, viewable [here]. I've presented an option that I believe will satify both inclusionists and those who are having viewing problems with the current setup, by creating a Fleet Gallery subsection, basically the standard gallery coding with the aircraft images placed into it, and have that as a subsection below the Current Fleet section. Your thoughts on this matter would be most helpful at devising a good solution, so I look forward to your input. I also apologise for the amount of disruption on the British Airways article in general, I think it is the first major shakeup in a long time, and it should come to an end shortly after the GA review has taken its course. I look forward to hearing from you. Kyteto (talk) 15:46, 4 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

I've given the IP a warning and issued an admin sanction. Suggest that for now you open a dialogue on the talk page and thrash out the issue there. Probably best that you leave the article alone for now. Mjroots (talk) 18:45, 8 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

The next time you are in this situation, it would be better to make a report at WP:AN3. There are plenty of other editors to revert apart from yourself. Mjroots (talk) 19:18, 9 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

LACSA/TACA

edit

This is to kindly request you undo the changes you did without consulting anyone or without proper support (RS) regarding the Lacsa article. Please see my comment on the talk page. If you do not reverse in a couple of days I will request an administrator to do so. The announcement by AVIANCA/TACA has not even the approval of the regulators, and legally Lacsa still exists as such.-Mariordo (talk) 01:13, 13 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

As far as I'm aware when TACA took over it remained as Lacsa but since new livery was introduced the airline was rebranded as TACA Costa Rica. Zaps93 (talk) 15:38, 13 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
I would like to invite you to take a look and participate if you wish, into the conversation I am having with an admin here. There I made explicit what do I think about the LACSA article content and what my proposal will be if the name is reversed.-Mariordo (talk) 18:30, 18 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Should Narita be considered a focus city for United?

edit

A user has added NRT as a focus city for United from October 26 on the UA infobox. Is this true?? A discussion was started at WP:AIRLINES. Snoozlepet (talk) 01:59, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Sorry mate, United isn't a strong point for me, but I shall have a look. As far as I'm aware they've had a large presence in Tokyo NRT but I'm not sure if it qualifies as a Focus City. Zaps93 (talk) 16:03, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for File:Croc Screenshot.png

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Croc Screenshot.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. FASTILYsock (TALK) 22:33, 22 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

There is nothing wrong with it! Description clearly states that it is a screenshot of Croc. Zaps93 (talk) 22:46, 22 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
You need to add the rationale template to the image as well (see below). Mjroots (talk) 14:46, 27 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Aeroflot Destinations

edit

I disagree with you on excluding real airport names such as Pudong, Vrazhdebna, Roissy-CDG in favour of 'official' names you insisted on. So I'd like to find a consensus: to name all airports by their real names and not artificially=officially created. There are no London-Heathrow Airport or Moscow-Sheremetyevo International Airport. There are Heathrow Airport and Sheremetyevo International Airport. May I be sure that we are agreed on. Thanx! --Dimitree 14:30, 31 October 2009 (UTC)--Dimitree 14:30, 31 October 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dimitree (talkcontribs)

Please read WP:AIRLINES. If the name is repetative then you shorten it e.g. Not putting random names, so do not change till discussed and agreed. Zaps93 (talk) 16:26, 31 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hellenic Imperial Airways

edit

Hi Zaps, I reverted your last changes to the abovementioned article. Please refer to Wikipedia:Project Airports if you are not of my opinion, but there is a broad consensus that routes are only to be added when they are either flown or planned with a distinctive starting date. Suspended routes with no news on whether they will restart ever again are surely not notable. Best regards and keep on with your good work. Per aspera ad Astra (talk) 19:27, 31 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey, ok. One thing though if they are definately removed they should definately be put under a terminated section. Zaps93 (talk) 00:22, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
There is also consensus on not include a list of terminated destinations, if this ould be never-ending, as you just can't list all airlines that once in a lifetime served a certain route. The airport articles are there to provide information on the significance of the airport. Per aspera ad Astra (talk) 06:15, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
On the Hellenic Imperial Airways destinations section, as with any other terminated route, we list it. Of course we don't list terminated on the airport page. Regards, Zaps93 (talk) 11:13, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

About Flex and Varig

edit

Dear Zaps93, I kindly ask you to be aware before impolitely calling the information about Varig on Flex article as "rubbish" to be aware that Flex is the new brand name of the "old Varig" the original airline. The brand Varig is presently owned by VRG Linhas Aéreas, a completely new airline established in 2006, which also owns the brand Gol. Flex therefore has more to do with Varig than the airline that presently uses the name Varig. I thak for your understanding. Yours Sincerely, (Brunoptsem (talk) 11:21, 1 November 2009 (UTC))Reply

I'm sorry, it seems I made the wrong choice in wording! On the other hand it was just an utter mess, no references, no external links, nothing. If you feel it should be re-added can you please do if you have the supported references (even if they are in a different langauge). The reference I had also found states the airline was founded in 2007 not in the 1920's? Personally I feel that article needs to be kept with Flex Linhas Aéreas information as there is a whole article for Varig. Kind Regards, Zaps93 (talk) 11:27, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Dear Zaps93, I know this is all VERY confusing because since 2006 we have a "new Varig" and "old Varig", and "new Varig", the visible one, has very little to do with "old Varig" other than the name. I am working on it. I am really trying to find references on the press from the time of the split. My idea was to provide accurate information first and then look for the sources (a time-consuming search) - I am aware that the article was edited with many "citation needed" tags. Being Flex the actual "old Varig" I stated its foundation in 1927. It was not re-founded in 2006, it just changed the name because the name Varig was sold as part of the package of VRG Linhas Aéreas to its present owner. I will try to keep Flex article related to post-2006 but there is a need for a hsitorical explanation. I thank for your understanding and wish you a nice day. (11:43, 1 November 2009 (UTC))
Flex may be from the remains of Old Varig, but it is a new airline, different name, different CEO, Founders etc, 2007 stays for that reason, but on the other hand, if you can find the right reference and make it more clearer that would be much more helpful. Regards, Zaps93 (talk) 11:48, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Dear Zaps93, I've been reconstructing the article that you have deleted, incorportating some changes that you suggested. Once I have a basic text ready I will provide information the references you demand. You have to understand however that this is a time-consuming process. I have to look for sources available on the internet, so that I can source them accordingly. I kindly request you to have some patience. Also please be aware that the case is complicated and that you are basing your editing in wrong, incomplete or outdated information. Viação Aérea Rio Grandense-"old Varig"-Flex is juridically a completely different airline in relation to VRG Linhas Aéreas-"new Varig"-present owner of the brand Varig. If you have access to updated information in the UK or EI, you would not have listed Dau as CEO, sourcing the information on a blog dated of 2008. He is one of the judges during the bankruptcy protection time, which has already ended. Lastly, just for your information, I work with Transportation Engineering, Portuguese is my mother tongue, and I have access to the Brazilian Civil Aviation Agency files. Thanking for your understanding and patience, Yours (Brunoptsem (talk) 16:47, 1 November 2009 (UTC)).Reply
Can you be sure you can provide reference for all of it? Regards, Zaps93 (talk) 16:55, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
I will do my best. As you know, Wikipedia is a voluntary job, I earn no cent from this work and I do it with the intent of sharing my knowledge and information to which I have access. You will notice that I rarely edit articles in Portuguese, preferring to do in English so that a worldwide audience, people just like you, can be reached. However, I invest only a limited time in this work. Therefore, the editing of Flex was a slow work in progress. I only started it because I noticed that the Varig affair was just a big mess in Wikipedia and I am slowly trying to put some order. My difficulty with the references is finding reliable sources from year 2005-6, for an affair that was VERY messy. I prefer to use newspapers and documents rather than blogs, which usually state a very personal opinion. So, again, I thank for your understanding and will try to provide the most accurate information available. Give me a few days. If after I tell you "I've done what I could" and you are not satisfied, I am sure that in the UK you will find much better information and make a much better article. Best Regards, (Brunoptsem (talk) 17:13, 1 November 2009 (UTC))Reply
Ok, as long as you can do your best that is what counts. Zaps93 (talk) 17:27, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Dear Zaps93, I do need your help in one issue. As you might have noticed, English is not my native language. As such, corrections of grammar and other language mistakes will be VERY welcome. I will end the work for today. My family also deserves some attention :) Thanks, (Brunoptsem (talk) 17:46, 1 November 2009 (UTC))Reply
Ok, sure! I'll have a read and see if any grammar or spelling mistakes have been made. Speak soon! Zaps93 (talk) 18:21, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ok, done. I tried to be as concise and clear as possible. The story goes on since Flex is back to the news for economic difficulties. As facts develop, I will keep on doing the updates. Thanks, (Brunoptsem (talk) 12:07, 6 November 2009 (UTC))Reply

Aer Lingus

edit

Dear Zaps93, your full reversion of my carefully considered changes to the Aer Lingus article is strange since two of the three matters I changed are uncontroversial.

Firstly, my changes of "&" to "and" ARE correct since Wikipedia does not use the abbreviated "and" because it looks amateur, but you reverted me. Secondly, my changes of Long-Haul and Short-Haul to Long-haul and Short-haul ARE correct but you reverted me. Finally you reverted my removal of the constant and irritating repetition of Aer Lingus in front of every pic caption. The reader knows the subject of the article (Aer Lingus!) and does not need it endlessly repeated in every caption. I can accept you might disagree on that, but reversion of the other two matters is unacceptable since you are going against Wikipedia style. I will return the "&" and "Long-Haul" to the correct form but leave the pic captions alone (note that most other airline articles have removed the constant airline mention in the captions) - Adrian Pingstone (talk) 18:24, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

I realised I made a few vital errors in the revert, but on the other note, captions are so much better and more used with the airlines name in them. Zaps93 (talk) 18:28, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
I acept your apology but wholesale reversion to correct one "error" is not a good idea. Best Wishes - Adrian Pingstone (talk) 18:33, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
That is true, I'll avoid it in the future! hehe. Best Wishes to you too. Zaps93 (talk) 18:36, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

BSL

edit

The city of Basel is in Switzerland (and Freiburg in Germany). But the airport is completely in France (unless they moved it recently or the Haut-Rhin was recently annexed by Freiburg in Germany and Mulhouse in France. Here you go: EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg. Jasepl (talk) 19:39, 9 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Oh makes sense! Though regarding it being listed, terminated lists cities, correct and not airports? Therefor it's correct in a sense, the city is in Switzerland so I think for terminated destinations it's in the right place. Of course if it was a current one then we would list France. Regards, Zaps93 (talk) 20:17, 9 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
That is inconsistent. Just because an airline stops flying somewhere, doesn't mean the place physically moves! The airport also has more than one code: BSL, EAP and MLH. It is a French airport! Jasepl (talk) 03:17, 10 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Makes more sense. Unless Switzerland decides to invade France, then I see your point. Kind regards, Zaps93 (talk) 17:09, 10 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

DL/NW @ Athens International Airport

edit

Hey Zaps! If you get a chance, can you take a look at Athens Airport? Per schedules/booking engine, JFK-ATH-JFK will switch from a DL 767 to an NW A330 from June 2010. I am not sure if you know much about the NW/DL merger but me and Jasepl continue to say the flight will be listed as "Northwest Airlines". There is a discussion at Talk:Athens International Airport and i took the liberty of taking it to WP:AIRPORTS and WP:AIRLINES. Thanks! Snoozlepet (talk) 04:10, 16 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello.
The flight will be DL due to one reason. Their operating liscence will be merged by 31 December 2009 and if all goes to plan starting as just plain DL on 1 January 2010. Hope that helps. Kind Regards, Zaps93 (talk) 17:47, 16 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Hey! If you can find a source stating that the operating will merge on December 31, then fell free to add it. However, I have googled it and found only sources stating that certificates will merge by the end of this year. Snoozlepet (talk) 18:52, 16 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
