Good article reassessment for Architecture of Denmark
editArchitecture of Denmark has been nominated for a good article reassessment. If you are interested in the discussion, please participate by adding your comments to the reassessment page. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, the good article status may be removed from the article. Z1720 (talk) 00:39, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for alerting me, Z1720. From the article's talk page, the main concern appears to be that there are some paragraphs without inline citations. I'm pretty sure these could be added without too much difficulty. The other concern is that the section on "Contemporary period" needs to be updated. This will require additional work. I think Ramblersen2 might also be interested in helping out. (Can we expect the reassessment page to be created shortly?)--Ipigott (talk) 07:31, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
- I will of course be happy to help in any way I can. However, I'm always a bit hesitant to edit GA-rated articles directly as I'm afraid of doing more harm than good by messing up the presentation. Some initial thoughts:
- Perhaps the best way to go would be to remove the section on "emerging practices" as it will inevitably become outdated very quickly. Bjarke Ingels Group, COBE and Dorte Mandrup should probably be covered in the previous section.
- In the section "20th century", I think the "Bedre Byggeskik" movement and Skønvirke should be mentioned. I think it might be better to merge the sections "Nordic Classicism" and "Expressionism" into a single section called "Competing stules, 1900–1930" or "Early 20 century". It could open someting like this: "The beginning of the new century saw a reaction agiainst Historicism. The period was dominated by a number of competing style of which the most important were Nordic Classicis,. Baroque Revival, Skønvirke and the Bedre Byggeskik movement", followed by the existing paragraphs on Nordic Classicism and Expressionism. The Bedre Byggeskik movement is worth mentioning because it emphasized local tradition and had a great impact on architecture around the country (it would probably be more relevant to mention Skagen here rather than in the section "Urban development"). The Bedre Byggeskik movement should no doubt have its own article but I have not yet got around to starting it (hoping that someone else would do so). As for Skønvirke', it should probably be mentioned that Jugendstil/Art Nouveau did not gain the same level of popularity as in central Eirope, that it was locally known as Skønvirke, and that Anton Rosen was the most important Danish proponent of the style.Ramblersen2 (talk) 14:07, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
- These are all good suggestions, Ramblersen2. I don't think you should worry about detracting from the GA standard. On the contrary, I have always found your edits to be of a particularly high standard, especially those in connection with architecture. If you would like to make a start on the improvements you suggest, I can always look them through and will also try to add missing inline sources to the remainder of the article. Why not make a start now and I will see how things evolve over the next few days.--Ipigott (talk) 14:23, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
- We have now updated the article with details of recent achievements and have added in-line references where necessary. Any page watchers interested in architecture may like to check the article out and offer an opinion on the reassessment page.--Ipigott (talk) 11:40, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- I will of course be happy to help in any way I can. However, I'm always a bit hesitant to edit GA-rated articles directly as I'm afraid of doing more harm than good by messing up the presentation. Some initial thoughts:
Hi Ian. As you can see, I have found it necessary to remove some of the old information which was about projects (competition wins) that ended up not getting realized. I have tried to replace it with projects that have actually been built as well as more recent projects that are still in progress (as far as I know). I still expect to add more references over the next couple of days. But if you are aware of any specific issues that you would like me to work on, feel free to point them out. For more updatedcoverage of Danish architecture at home, I think it would make sense to mention the Nordhavnen, Sydhavnen and Carlsberg areas alongside Ørestaden, both because that is where most of the recent activity has taken place and because Ørestad is esentially a horrible example of failed urban planning, but I have not got around to look at it yet. It should probably also be mentioned that the central docklands of Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg and many medium-sized citiesaround the country have also seen a similar development (for a less Copenhagen-centric coverage of the subject). ButI am a little reluctant to implement too many changes right now since it could easily raise three new issues every time one is addressed, which is obviously not what we want right now when it comes to securing the GA-status.Ramblersen2 (talk) 14:57, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- Ramblersen2: I think you have done a really good job with your updates. I have also been including in-line references. It seems to me we have responded to the concerns expressed and should now wait to see the outcome. I suggest you introduce any further changes once the GA status has been maintained.--Ipigott (talk) 07:03, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
Filippa Fotopoulou
editHi, can you rename the page Filipa Fotopoulou to Filippa. Her name is with double P. Thank you for your time, and sorry for the mess. Thanbla (talk) 05:59, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Thanbla:I tried to make the move but there is already a redirect page Filippa Fotopoulou which is preventing it. This will require the attention of an administrator (perhaps Rosiestep or Victuallers). From "What links here" on Filipa Fotopoulou, I see considerable work will be needed to sort out all the wikilinks once the move has been made.--Ipigott (talk) 07:39, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for the effort. I made the redirect page because i tried to correct my fault with a wrong way. Thanbla (talk) 07:50, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Today's story has 3 composers, I couldn't decide for the one on the Main page or the one who didn't make it on his bicentenary, so took both, and the pic has a third. Listen if you have a bit of time. The music, played by the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra in Germany in April 2022, impressed me. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:27, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
Recommended reading today: Frye Fire, by sadly missed Vami_IV. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:18, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
Happy because my story today is about a Czech mezzo soprano who is mentioned on the Main page on her birthday. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:39, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
Today is Schoenberg's 150th birthday! On display, portrayed by Egon Schiele, with music from Moses und Aron, and with two DYK hooks, one from 2010 and another from 2014; the latter, about his 40th birthday, appeared on his 140th birthday, which made me happy then and now again. - See places for a stunning sunrise, on the day Bruckner's 200th birthday was celebrated (just a few days late). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:00, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
My story today is about a man who played jazz when it was banned by the Nazis, - you can listen to how they played it later. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:15, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
My story today features a pic I took from my position in the choir, I can also offer varied delightful music, some from Venice, also with pics I took, - note the rose in the clarinet ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:35, 25 September 2024 (UTC)

Requesting for review!
editHello! Dear, @Ipigott
I am writing to request a review of the Wikipedia page for Dinesh Shetty. I have made significant contributions to the page.
Specifically, I would appreciate your feedback! 𝒮-𝒜𝓊𝓇𝒶 07:32, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi there, s-Aura. I'm afraid I'm no expert on reality shows and see that the article is very short. I would therefore prefer to leave it to other reviewers. On the other hand, I have reviewed and rated your article on Interval Learning. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 07:47, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

Wikidata
editDear, @Ipigott You have Significant Experience on Wikipedia So I have one more question regarding Wikidata Identifiers- Freebase Id Can you explain how it works? 𝒮-𝒜𝓊𝓇𝒶 08:32, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- @S-Aura: This is an item in connection with Wikidata. You can find a general description of Wikidata here but the most important thing for you at this stage is to try to ensure your new articles are included as a Wikidata entry and improve the entry if necessary. The procedure is explained under Wikipedia:Wikidata but don't worry too much about it. Wikidata experts check new articles and add entries when necessary. For example, you can find the Wikidata entry for Dinesh Shetty by clicking on "Person" in the LH margin. At this stage, I think you should devote your time to improving your Wikipedia drafts. Let me know if you run into any difficulties.--Ipigott (talk) 08:54, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- Sure! I understood and Thankyou for your guidance. 𝒮-𝒜𝓊𝓇𝒶 08:57, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- Dear @Ipigott
- Note- I know about Noindex Template/Tag but
- The Suai Prison page is not yet appearing in Google search results. Typically, pages are indexed by Google after undergoing a review on Wikipedia. I would appreciate any guidance or assistance you can provide in resolving this issue and ensuring the page is properly indexed.
- Thank you! for your time and expertise. 𝒮-𝒜𝓊𝓇𝒶 02:08, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- @S-Aura:: I reviewed the article yesterday along with some of your other pending creations. I'm afraid I am not familiar with the mechanics behind Google search but I can assure you that the article is correctly "indexed" as you can see from here. The Wikidata item was created some time ago in connection with the German Gefängnis Suai and I have now added further details. Perhaps the problem is that you did not activate the "Languages" item in the LH margin when the article was created. In any case, everything seems to be in order now. Problems such as this tend to be resolved within a day or two. It is really not critical to see whether an article is immediately picked up by Google. I see from here that the German wiki has several more prisons in East Timor. Perhaps you would be interested in covering some of them in English?--Ipigott (talk) 07:10, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- Yea, Sure I’ll do that and Thankyou again for guidance. 𝒮-𝒜𝓊𝓇𝒶 07:14, 9 September 2024 (UTC)

New biography article review/patrol request
editDear @Ipigott,
Thank you for your previous reviews of my articles. I’m reaching out again to kindly request your assistance in reviewing and patrolling a new article, Andrew Osei-Karmen, which I have recently improved and moved to the Wikipedia mainspace. If you’re unable to review the article due to its nature as a biography, I would greatly appreciate it if you could notify any qualified editor who could take on the task.
Thank you once again for your continued support. Bdatpal (talk) 18:32, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi there, Bdatpal, and thank you for improving the biography of Osei-Karmen which was first created by Palucy. While it may be difficult to find records of his date of birth, it seems highly relevant to me that he has a French father and a Ghanaian mother (see here) and I think you should add these details. Take care with the formatting of references (they should be included without an additional space immediately after the relevant item (see my edits for how I have corrected them). I've rated the article as C class but it could be further improved. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 08:37, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your review and feedback, @Ipigott. I appreciate the suggestions and will add the details about Osei-Karmen’s parentage to enhance the biography. I’ll also make sure to follow the reference formatting as you’ve pointed out. Your guidance is invaluable, and I’ll make the necessary improvements. Thanks once again. Bdatpal (talk) 08:56, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

- Dear @Ipigott,
- I hope you are doing well today. I wanted to reach out to you regarding the page Bhupendra Niraula, which has been pending for several days. Could you please review the page and let me know if there are any issues or if it is ready to be moved out of the pending state?
- Thank you for your time and assistance.
- 𝒮-𝒜𝓊𝓇𝒶 01:41, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
- @S-Aura: I've reviewed this one but I really can't give special attention to your new articles every day. I think you should be more patient, waiting at least a few weeks before alerting me of delays. I'm not sure why your new articles are not listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Nepal/New articles. Perhaps you could mention this on the project talk page and find out how to have them included. There may then be others keen to review them.--Ipigott (talk) 06:31, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

Question from Jonathan Baldock (14:13, 18 September 2024)
editHi Ipigott, am I able to create pages for Women visual artists? I have biographies for several that are not on Wikipedia. Thanks --Jonathan Baldock (talk) 14:13, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi there, Jonathon Baldock, and welcome to Wikipedia. We would certainly welcome more biographies of women artists but they would have to comply with Wikipedia standards. In my welcome message on your talk page, you will find links on how to edit. In addition, if you want to create biographies of women, you should look through our Ten Simple Rules. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need further assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 15:53, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

Requesting for feedback!
editHello @Ipigott,
I'm reaching out regarding the page I created, which was recently moved to Draft:Pawan Reley, by someone. I'd appreciate your feedback and opinion on this decision.
As the original creator, I invested significant time and effort into researching and compiling information for this page. I believe it provides valuable content and insights worthy of publication.
Please share your thoughts Thankyou! 𝒮-𝒜𝓊𝓇𝒶 08:45, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- @S-Aura:: The reviewer who moved Pawan Reley to draft commented "Not ready for mainspace". I think it would therefore be worthwhile working on further improvements, for example by drawing more heavily on this and other informative sources. At the moment, the running text in the article consists of only 75 words. You also need to explain in more detail why he is notable. Some of your sources seem to be primary. If so, they would be more suitable in an External links section. Your secondary sources should be sufficient to provide the necessary content. Let me know when you've made further improvements.--Ipigott (talk) 10:33, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- Dear @Ipigott,
- I've made significant changes to the Draft:Pawan Reley page,
- including:
- • Substantial revisions for clarity and accuracy
- • Addition of credible sources to support information
- I kindly request your review to ensure the updates meet Wikipedia's standards. Your expertise and feedback are invaluable in maintaining the quality.
- Thankyou! 𝒮-𝒜𝓊𝓇𝒶 11:25, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- @S-Aura:: The article may technically meet notability standards but I still think you could have followed up on my suggestions. You have simply moved text from one section to another with the result that there are still only 71 words of running text. If you wish, you can resubmit the article for AfC review. If you want my approval, I would be looking for a much more substantial attempt at expanding the article, say to around 200 words of running text. You could also present more background on the awards.--Ipigott (talk) 12:06, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- Dear @Ipigott,
- Sorry for interrupting multiple time for Draft:Pawan Reley I have just put considerable effort into ensuring that the content meets Wikipedia’s standards, but I would greatly appreciate your further changes.

- (talk page watcher) I see that you linked to the disambiguation page Panna, instead of to Panna, Madhya Pradesh as you intended (I've fixed it). Please always check that every link goes where you intend: just because a link turns blue doesn't mean it's the right topic. There is an easy way to avoid linking to disambiguation pages: if you go to "Preferences", "Gadgets", and look under "Appearance" you'll see "Display links to disambiguation pages in orange" towards the bottom of the section. Select that tickbox, and whenever you Preview a page you'll be able to see whether you've accidentally linked to a disambiguation page. Happy Editing. PamD 17:05, 23 September 2024 (UTC)

- Dear @Ipigott,
- I'm currently working on the Justice Draft:J.R Midha page, but I'm facing challenges in finding certain crucial information. To expedite completion and foster collaboration, I'm considering publishing the page in its current state.
- Would it be advisable to publish the page mid-editing to invite additional contributors and expertise? Your guidance would be invaluable.
- Thankyou! 𝒮-𝒜𝓊𝓇𝒶 08:02, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- No, S-Aura, I don't think it is a good idea to publish the page as it is. You need to spend more time on finding reliable sources and expanding the article. If you are aware of the shortcomings represented in the templates you have added, you should sort these out yourself. It's pretty unusual for other editors to add substantial new content to articles like this. It is of course admissible to draw on sources in Hindi and other Indian languages if they are reliable. You could see what you can find in newspapers. Try searching on जे.आर मिधा.--Ipigott (talk) 10:03, 25 September 2024 (UTC)

Review: Sarah Hester Ross
editHi, Ipigott. Thank you for reviewing my page. I just wanted to confirm, is the main area for improvement that the article needs more detail? I had cut it down from my initial submission for the sake of only using sources that establish notability. I had to eliminate several because they were straight interviews with Sarah with little or no additional commentary. Now that I've met the threshold for acceptance, I am glad to add more detail from those sources to make a more complete article. Let me know if that is the direction I should take to improve the article. Tamariskie (talk) 12:56, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting back to me, Tamariskie, and congratulations on your first article. It is indeed a good idea to limit the use of primary sources until a biography has been successfully reviewed. I would nevertheless be careful of including too many details from interviews as people are often keen to promote themselves when interviewed. You will find guidance on what sources can be used in the Women in Red Primer. If you intend to write more biographies of women, you might find it useful to join WikiProject Women in Red where we are trying to improve coverage of women on Wikipedia. You can sign up under "New registrations" on Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/New members. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 13:37, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the quick reply, Ipigott. The details I'm looking to include from interviews are either biographical or to establish a career timeline. There is also one career credit Sarah has where the media coverage only mentioned her in passing so I had to leave that out until I established notability. I assume I can add that back in now? The credit itself isn't terribly significant but it was the catalyst for Sarah's relocation to Las Vegas so it seemed relevant to add to the article.
- Thank you so much for the feedback and for the congratulations. This has been an interesting learning experience! After I sent the last message, I perused around on Wikipedia and found that it is actually very common for even long-established articles to be classed Start or C so I don't feel as bad about it now. I appreciate you reviewing it so promptly and moving it out of Start class. Tamariskie (talk) 13:50, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, Tamariskie, the details you mention should be included. Looking forward to having you as a member of Women in Red where you'll find many more editors interested in helping you along. You are welcome to present any queries or suggestions on the project's talk page.--Ipigott (talk) 13:56, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
Review Bernadette Thompson
editThanks for reviewing the article I created! After the review I made some updates to the article to improve the use of citations, removed reliance on primary source interviews for certain claims, and clarified neutrality by more explicitly paraphrasing secondary sources to make clear that viewpoints reflect the sources and not editorial opinion.
The article had been moved to the draft space by another user after the review which I think undid its reviewed status, so I want to ensure that the article meets Wikipedia's current standards. I would appreciate it if the article could be reviewed again now that it is back on the mainspace and for any feedback you could provide on improvements to the article since the most recent changes! Fashionista345 (talk) 18:28, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Fashionista145: In view of the comments on User talk:Drm310 it looks as if the article will remain in mainspace although I will leave it to be reviewed by someone else. By all means continue to make improvements to the article. You might find it useful to follow the advice in WikiProject Women in Red's Ten Simple Rules. I'm reaching out for assistance regarding the article I created Dinesh Shetty. Recently, Other Contributor reviewed the article and subsequently nominated it for deletion.
I've tried to understand the reasons behind this nomination, but unfortunately, I couldn't find any clear explanations. I've reviewed the article's history and policies, and I believe it meets Wikipedia's standards.
To ensure Neutrality and accuracy, I'm requesting feedback from you. I'd appreciate your review and comments on the article and deletion nomination.
Thankyou! 𝒮-𝒜𝓊𝓇𝒶 18:08, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- @S-Aura:: I'm afraid I have to agree with the reviewer on this one. Biographies should not depend on a single event. If you can find more background on other achievements, you might be able to improve the article to an acceptable standard.--Ipigott (talk) 06:48, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
October music

You may remember Maryvonne Le Dizès, my story today as on 28 August. Some September music was unusual: last compositions and eternal light, with Ligeti mentioned in story and music. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:04, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
Today is the birthday of Tabea Zimmermann, and you can listen to the exact concert I mentioned last year ;) - I'm fascinated by Rohan de Saram. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:25, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
Today brought a timely promotion of Helmut Bauer to the Main page on the day when pieces from Mozart's Requiem were performed for him. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:17, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
Listen to the music in my story: I put it on DYK 10 years ago (mentioning Ukraine) and heard it today for the first time. That violinist/violist was incredible! Last month someone added to her article that she died, - a year ago OTD. Not recent enough to be mentioned, and we can't celebrate her birthday, - we don't even have a year. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:33, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
I made Leif Segerstam my big story today. -Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:14, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for caring about the sopranos! I don't understand how an offline source can be deemed preferable to something online that identifies its source clearly. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:51, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt: Thanks for your excellent work on Deborah Sasson t AfD. I fully agree with you that the Bayreuth Festival source should be cited in the body of the article and not just in External links. As the EL list is already quite long, I wouldn't be surprised if another seasoned editor comes along and deletes it on the grounds that the source is given in the article (as the 1999 GSL which cannot be accessed online). I am surprised that despite your explanations, 4meter4 is so reluctant to accept your view. You are after all widely recognized for your biographies of opera singers. He may well be an expert on Wikipedia protocol but does not seem to be ready to work in a spirit of collaboration. Furthermore, he does not stick to his own principles. Several of his articles on opera and opera singers refer to what he considers to be primary sources. A telling example is John Fisher (opera director) which is based solely on his biography at the Welsh National Opera, his "employer" at the time (now a dead link). To avoid deletion, I would encourage 4m4 to update it on the basis of more recent biographical sources. In his defence, he created the article back in 2011 and was no doubt still learning the ropes after starting in 2010. The good news is of course that Sasson is now to be withdrawn from AfD.-Ipigott (talk) 08:27, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Ipigott You are being rude, patronizing, and making lots of false assumptions about me and my relationship with Gerda. Pointing out an article I created 13 years ago as an example of hypocrisy on my part is just disingenuous. Additionally, I started in 2007 under a different account so I had four years of experience in 2011. Wikipedia was not so rigorous in sourcing in those years as it is now. It was a different world and editing community. I am a different editor now with more years of experience that I didn't have then. Wikipedia culture has changed in regards to our WP:VERIFICATION policy and rules which have evolved considerably over time. After having several of my old articles get taken to AFD, or get held up for sourcing issues through tags, or in review processes of various kinds like WP:FA and WP:GA review I learned and grew. I also went to college and earned two degrees in the intervening time, and became a published academic; all of which impacted my writing on wikipedia and the way I approach research.
- Additionally, there is a long history of collaboration between Gerda and I; mostly positive. We are both primary editors involved with WP:WikiProject Opera and have been working there together since about 2009 when Gerda joined wikipedia. I have been a member of that project since January of 2007, and have even collaborated with other project members on building FA class opera articles, so the accusation that I don't work well with others is just not true. I have probably written as many articles on opera singers as Gerda has (perhaps more), as that is one of my primary interests. I actually am a baritone who has worked professionally in opera. Gerda and I are editing buddies that have worked together for 15 years, and have built articles together in the past. One other area where we often come in contact is at WP:DYK. Unfortunately, Gerda has a reputation at DYK review for being combative, and for repeatedly having sourcing issues in her article nominations. You may not be aware, but these sourcing issues have been raised in the past at DYK by multiple editors. Sometime her articles brought to DYK have been taken to WP:AFD for overusing theatre websites and primary sources. This is a repeating area of conflict for which I am one of several editors that have raised concerns over a pattern of poor sourcing. You have unintentionally walked into a conflict area with history. That said, Gerda and I mostly get along well. Some of our recent article collaborations include Cecelia Hall (mezzo-soprano) (which was an article I basically re-wrote after sourcing concerns were raised at DYK and it was pulled from the DYK Queue for poor sourcing issues which I fixed) and Hevenu shalom aleichem (another DYK nom by Gerda accused of poor sourcing which I rescued after it it was challenged at DYK and taken to AFD: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hevenu shalom aleichem).
- Please WP:Assume Good Faith. You should not make assumptions about other editors and their history and their relationships. Nor should you take AFD nominations personally or conflicts between other editors personally. Disagreements over referencing practices shouldn't resort to personal attacks and impugning other people' reputations. Gerda and I often have sourcing conflict conversations, largely because of DYK review. We still manage to like each other, and appreciate each other's work. I value Gerda as an editor and friend. The end result of Sasson AFD has been positive and we should celebrate that the article has been much improved and be grateful that the encyclopedia is in a better state than it was before the AFD. This is one reason I use the AFD process; it often leads to a decision one way or the other where we weed out poorly made articles on questionably notable topics, or improve poorly made articles by validating notability and improving sourcing. I hope that you will take the time to repair your relationship with me because I would like to work productively together in future, rather than go out of my way to avoid speaking and working with you which at this point is where I am at with you unless I receive a sincere appology. 4meter4 (talk) 17:24, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- 4meter4: I think you have seriously misunderstood my support for Gerda. It was certainly not intended to reflect detrimentally on your own efforts which I continue to admire. I am also fully aware that Gerda appreciates your work. In our recent discussions, I have always emphasized the extremely important development you are undertaking on the list of operatic sopranos but I just felt you should take more care in suggesting certain biographies should be deleted, some even speedily, without prior discussion. If you have mistaken my intentions, then I can of course offer you the sincere apology you suggest but I have always tried to maintain good relationships with other editors. I actually thought our recent exchanges had generally been constructive and I was looking forward to further collaboration. But thanks for coming along and expressing your concerns. I'm certainly happy to see that these issues can be discussed on talk pages rather than in editing conflicts. Please don't hesitate to alert me if you think I am misrepresenting you in any way. And forgive me for not noticing your comments until now.--Ipigott (talk) 17:24, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
I hope you followed reading my stories to a rich day. Today a caricature, for a change. Lovely to see the image of the Swedish soprano featured! I am behind with sopranos, - two more died for whose articles I feel responsible, and I'm travelling. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:44, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
Happy whatever you celebrate today! Greetings from Madrid where I took the pic of assorted Cucurbita in 2016. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:30, 31 October 2024 (UTC)

My Experience
editDear @Ipigott,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my recent experience regarding my submission for a rights of new page reviewer, which was unfortunately declined. I noticed that a request from another new editor who joined just five months ago was accepted, and this has left me feeling quite disappointed.
I have been dedicated to contributing to Wikipedia and have put a lot of effort into understanding the guidelines and improving my submissions. Given this recent setback, I’m starting to question whether I should continue contributing to the platform.
Could you please offer any advice?
Thank you! 𝒮-𝒜𝓊𝓇𝒶 14:22, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for consulting me on this matter, S-Aura. Although you have been an enthusiastic contributor over the past three months, it seems to me you should first try to gain experience in creating articles which deserve more than just a stub class rating. I think I had been editing for at least five years before it was suggested I might like to become a reviewer. So my advice is keep on editing, try to improve the quality of your articles and collaborate positively with other editors. Sooner or later others will begin to recognize your abilities but three months experience is really short.--Ipigott (talk) 15:05, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for your valuable advice and for taking the time to guide me. I completely understand your perspective and appreciate your thoughtful feedback. I’ll focus on improving the quality of my contributions, gaining more experience, and collaborating positively with other editors as you suggested. Your insights have truly encouraged me to keep learning and growing within the community.
- Thanks again for your support and advice! 𝒮-𝒜𝓊𝓇𝒶 15:22, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
Inquiry Regarding Restoration of Deleted Pages Due to Promotional Concerns
editHello @Ipigott,
I hope you're doing well. I'm reaching out regarding two Wikipedia pages I recently created, Andrew Osei-Karmen and CouponBirds, which were reviewed initially by you, but later deleted by another editor who flagged them as promotional and advertising.
I ensured the content adhered to Wikipedia's neutrality guidelines, but it seems the pages were still considered too promotional. I wanted to inquire if there are any steps I can take to address this, or if you could offer guidance on how to potentially restore the articles with adjustments that would better meet Wikipedia's standards.
I would greatly appreciate any advice or assistance you could provide.
Thank you for your time and support. Bdatpal (talk) 11:59, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Bdatpal:: Sorry to hear these articles have been deleted. You should be able to ask the administrators who deleted them to provide you with a draft version for improvements. You might nevertheless prefer to look through Wikipedia:Article creation and work on a new article.--Ipigott (talk) 15:35, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response, @Ipigott I will proceed to look into this and let you know when I create and submit new articles for your helpful review and edits suggestions to make sure all Wikipedia guidelines are properly followed. Bdatpal (talk) 16:00, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
One biography a week
editHi there. Have you given up on One Biography a Week? Not that I am sitting here waiting for a barnstar or anything like that but I had to insert October to December myself so thought perhaps you'd decided not to proceed, given the relative lack of interest in the previous three months. By the way, I am thinking of translating/improving Maria Magdalena Pinheiro Nogueira but her only claim to fame is that she was the mother of Fernando Pessoa, one of Portugal's leading writers. I don't think I've had an article deleted for lack of notability and don't want to start now. I feel that her role as the mother of a great author overcomes the rule about notability not being achieved by being a relative. What do you think? Many thanks. Roundtheworld (talk) 14:16, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Roundtheworld: I must say that I was somewhat distracted at the beginning of the month, partly in connection with several significant developments on Wikipedia and partly as a result of my wife's 80th birthday which we have been celebrating. Thank you for adding October so promptly. It's always good to see this kind of backup. As for MMPN, unless you can find more pertinent background, I do not think the article deserves to be included on the English wiki. I'm happy to see you continue to find so many other biographies of women in Portuguese which deserve to be translated into English. Keep up the good work!--Ipigott (talk) 10:50, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks very much for the advice.Roundtheworld (talk) 18:48, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
Censorship
editHello,
I am honoured to have been assigned someone as you as my experienced advisor. I am trying to protect an article from censorship and to include claims that state that the face of the dance act Whigfield is not the real singer, who is Ann Lee (singer), according to these claims. This case is not exceptional, but these claims are removed after they are added. Someone is trying to censor this particular page. How can we prevent that from happening over and over on this page?
Although this has never been confirmed by any of the parties involved —possibly due to contractual obligations—, the claims have gained significant traction on the internet over the years, largely due to the striking similarities between Annerley's voice and Whigfield's sound, and because Ann Lee sings Whigfield's songs live and her voice sounds like the one in the original recording.
There are many articles and videos about Ann Lee being the real singer of Whigfield's worldwide hits. I posted two sources that another person had posted previously on Ann Lee (singer), because I don't know how to insert additional references, but if you help me, I can add more sources or we can edit the article together. I can provide the text and the sources. The section is currently titled "Rumours" and it has the following sources:
The first one shows Ann Lee singing with a voice that sounds like Whigfield's:
https://www.bergamonews.it/2022/11/21/ann-lee-a-sorpresa-canta-al-divina-di-grassobbio/560363
The second source discusses Whigfield's lies:
However, I think that the page could benefit from more sources and/or references to the following videos.
Original version of the song:

Ann Lee's live performance:

Moreover, Mauro Farina, a well-known Italian record producer, was asked if Ann Lee, with whom he had collaborated multiple times, was the voice behind other songs such as "I Drove All Nite" by Bandido. He responded, "Yes, yes, my dear friend Annerley Gordon, who also did Whigfield":

Could you please he lp me editing and protecting the page? Fixfxx (talk) 17:11, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, Fixfxx, for providing all these interesting details. I see that the whole matter is rather complex. I therefore suggest waiting a day or two until I can find time to look into it more carefully. In the meantime, perhaps other page readers might like to comment. It might also be useful to briefly express your concerns on the article's talk page. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 11:02, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- I've just seen you have made significant changes to the Ann Lee page. Let's see if there are any reactions.--Ipigott (talk) 11:08, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you Ipigott,
- Could you please check the discuss section and the page Whigfield now and advice about references, format and grammar?
- Thank you very much. Fixfxx (talk) 17:23, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Fixfxx: As I said earlier, this is not something I can comment on without spending some time looking into the background. I've seen your edits and your comment on the Whigfield talk page. I see that there is also a fair amount of interesting info in the other language versions, for example Danish, German and Norwegian. I'm not sure why you need an immediate response from me on this. If you are happy about your edits and your sources, you should wait for others to react or comment.--Ipigott (talk) 18:44, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- Of course, it was not my intention to rush, but you were the contact I was assigned and I did not know how this works. When you have time you can have a look, if you would like to. I will check the other language versions that you mentioned. Actually, the Spanish version that I just read is very interesting, because it is not considered a rumour, but a fact, like Milli Vanilli and Corona (band). It is mentioned that they needed an attractive face after the unexpected success, something that I had read before, but the singer Annerley Gordon kept recording the songs. It is also mentioned that lip sync was a marketing strategy very common in Italy at the time, which is also true. So it's true that Annerley Gordon was the real singer, but some people do not want to accept this reality. Fixfxx (talk) 19:37, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- PS: I realised I wrote "now", but I wanted to say "after the changes". Fixfxx (talk) 19:38, 10 October 2024 (UTC)

- Fixfxx: In the light of all this, I think we should wait to see if your recent edits are found to be acceptable. My role as your contact is first and foremost to provide guidance on how to edit. I would really prefer not to become too deeply involved in what you consider to be a "censorship" issue. By and large, I think the EN Wikipedia is pretty good at accepting improvements to articles based on reliable sources. Let's try to collaborate along these lines. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 11:31, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- I understand that and I don't want you to feel uncomfortable. You have helped already reading and pointing at the other language versions. I found interesting resources in those pages. I also found the following, in the Talk section (English version):
- "The following Wikipedia contributor has declared a personal or professional connection to the subject of this article. Relevant policies and guidelines may include conflict of interest, autobiography, and neutral point of view. Marcomarati (talk · contribs) This user has declared a connection. (COI declared here)"
- Let's keep improving Wikipedia! Fixfxx (talk) 12:30, 11 October 2024 (UTC
- Thanks, Fixfxx, but I don't think this is relevant. Mamararatiti has been blocked from editing since 2015.--Ipigott (talk) 13:54, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- Right, unless M. is using other user names. Some users have only removed things from that page, and have done nothing else on Wikipedia. Fixfxx (talk) 13:56, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hello Ipigott,
- It seems that the edits I have written with the help of other people were well received. In case that I wanted to request page protection, how would I request it?
- Thank you. Fixfxx (talk) 13:51, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- I have counter evidence to show that Annerley Gordon directly states that she is not Whigfield.
- IS IT TRUE THAT YOU WERE INVOLVED IN THE WHIGFIELD PROJECT? 'What do you mean?'
- ARE YOU THE VOICE BEHIND WHIGFIELD? 'I wish! Then I wouldn't have to start from scratch. No, it's really not true!
- https://youtube.com/watch?v=c-TniHmHApw 14:13
- «You are not Corona, you are not Whigfield.»
- «No, no, no, no, no…»
- She then further mentions that she wrote Whigfield songs and even mentions Sannie being in the recording studio. 81.106.150.115 (talk) 10:31, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
@Fixfxx:: My sincere advice is to be as open as possible. Development of Wikipedia depends on constuctive collaboration. Page protection is especially useful in connection with celebrities when two groups of editors try to impose their views but in general it is not desirable. I really don't see any reason why you think it would be useful for your articles.--Ipigott (talk) 15:50, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- Because checking the history of the article and "Talk" page of the respective users, the article has been vandalised before in its different language versions. I'll just have an eye on it, for now. Fixfxx (talk) 19:13, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
Call for volunteers for the research project “Measuring the Gender Gap: Attribute-based Class Completeness Estimation”
editWe are a group of researchers at The University of Queensland, Australia who are working on a research project titled “Measuring the Gender Gap: Attribute-based Class Completeness Estimation” (see https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Measuring_the_Gender_Gap:_Attribute-based_Class_Completeness_Estimation), supported and funded by the Wikimedia Foundation. Our goal is to understand how and to develop supporting tool for Wikipedia editors making decisions on how to address the gender gap in Wikipedia content.
We are looking for a passionate Community Engagement Manager who will play a pivotal volunteer role in this project to help us to engage with the Wikipedia editors’ communities.
About the Role: The volunteer will help us to:
· Develop a plan to engage relevant Wikipedia communities with our project.
· Identify individual editors willing to join an online research interview (this study was approved by the University of Queensland Human Research Ethics Committee, reference 2023/HE001795).
· To understand how gender balance has been taken into account in the editorial process and decisions, as well as to discuss how a tool could be best designed to support this process.
Who We Are Looking For:
· Someone with a strong commitment to promoting gender equality in Wikipedia.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Experience in community management (desirable).
Benefits:
· Opportunity to make a significant impact in reducing the gender gap in Wikipedia.
· Expand your network within the Wikipedia communities and professionals.
· Develop skills in community management, and project coordination.
For further information and expression of interests, please contact Gianluca Demartini (Special:EmailUser/Eglu81) and Tianwa Chen (Special:EmailUser/Tchen9). Eglu81 (talk) 23:14, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Eglu81: This seems to be an interesting approach, especially as it is based on Wikipedia rather than on Wikidata in which you have also taken an interest. I'm afraid I cannot assist with your community engagement plans but would be happy to help you out if you run into any difficulties. Any responses would be in writing rather than in the form of Zoom interviews. I'm happy to see you have also contacted Rosiestep who is in a much better position to respond. I look forward to seeing how the research develops. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 07:43, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

Deborah Sasson
editIpigott I believe you are mistaken that Sasson has coverage in the Großes Sängerlexikon. When I did an internal text search in google books the only hit was within the article on her husband, the tenor Peter Hofmann. There was a single sentence in that article containing coverage of the their second marriage in 1983 and separation in 1990. That's not really significant coverage. However I did find this text in Operissimo https://web.operissimo.com/triboni/exec?method=com.operissimo.artist.webDisplay&id=ffcyoieagxaaaaabnjlj&xsl=webDisplay&searchStr=Sasson Is that what you were referring to? If so, I don't think it originated in the book by Kutsch and Riemens. Not everything in Operissimo is from that reference work which is why its important to actually look inside the Großes Sängerlexikon. Please let me know if I am missing something. Best.4meter4 (talk) 15:59, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, 4meter4, for taking an interest in Deborah Sasson. Not all editions of Großes Sängerlexikon are available for internet search but the Bayreuther Festspiele source which I have included in the article clearly identifies the 1999 edition as the source. Operissimo is usually an indication that a Sängerleksikon article exists which no doubt explains why the two German versions are almost identical. Gerda Arendt and I have frequently worked together on biographies of opera singers. When she has time, she may well be ready to expand the article on the basis of these and other sources. It is not always easy to find internet sources for performers from the 1980s but biographical dictionary coverage usually counts for notability. Failure to find useful responses in Google books should not be taken too seriously. I must say I am rather surprised that given your outstanding work on listing operatic sopranos, you are so intent on trying to delete an article on a performer who seems to deserve recognition. While her operatic career probably deserves further attention, she also seems to have made a mark in musicals. Let's see how others react to your AfD. On the basis of these preliminary findings, I certainly think we need to keep (and expand) the biography.--Ipigott (talk) 17:16, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- 4meter4: Now that Gerda Arendt has so significantly improved the biography, I'm sure you must agree it should no longer be deleted. If you come across other biographies of women opera singers which you feel are candidates for deletion, I think it would be useful to sound us out beforehand. In my experience, many of our existing biographies are based on sources which do not appear in Google searches but can be found by investigating resources in various languages such as biographical dictionaries, pertinent journals, archived newspaper reports, and lists of performers and performances from recognized opera houses and national theatres. An added complication is that women frequently adopt a stage name or appear under different names as a result of marriage or divorce. Biographies which have not yet been well developed can frequently benefit from further investigation along these lines. You will no doubt come across others as you look for reliable sources in connection with your list of operatic sopranos. In this connection, it might be worthwhile taking a new look at Paula von Hentke and Isabelle Poulenard which you succeeded in having deleted. Despite problems with their biographies in English, I see they are covered in some detail in German and French respectively.--Ipigott (talk) 08:59, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- (watching): here's a RS about the French soprano: review. I am busy elsewhere (priority a woman organist who died ...), or would help more. You'll need more references like that to please 4meter4. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:27, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, Gerda. I just wanted to make a start on Isabelle Poulenard sooner rather than later. I have other reliable sources including this from Radio France. I've been listening to some of her Baroque performances on YouTube. Obviously should be included on the EN wiki. I'll be expanding today and tomorrow as time permits. We should keep our eyes open for more attempts at deleting sopranos. I can understand 4m4's difficulty in finding reliable sources to append to his list of operatic sopranos but deletion should not be suggested for artists who are adequately covered in other language versions.--Ipigott (talk) 15:25, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- Looking forward to the expansion! - There's another one up for deletion on User talk:LouisAlain (who had also started Sasson), - I'll look into that tomorrow, - no "work" on Sunday ;) - I saw several more in the alerts for project opera but there are limits of what I can put into it. - My story today is a cantata 300 years old, based on a hymn 200 years old when the cantata was composed, based on a psalm some thousand years old, - so said the 2015 DYK hook. I had forgotten the discussion on the talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:31, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

Photo insertion for Bonnie Rychlak page
editHi Ipigott. I'm trying to upload pictures of the artist's work to her page, which you were so helpful in getting published. I was able to do so successfully for the info box. But I'm not able to figure out how to insert images on the left side and position them in relationship to the context of the text. I uploaded a file titled Chinese Chair #2, Installation White Columns, 1986 to Wikimedia but when I try to insert photo with icon above text box, I am prompted to upload and new image. I can't figure out 1) how to link to that image and 2)place the image on the left side of the page parallel to Art Career. Your assistance would be much appreciated! Gaw54 (talk) 17:22, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- Gaw54: Please provide a link to the image and I'll try to help.--Ipigott (talk) 17:33, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for your support!
- Here is the link:

- I have a number of other images I want to upload but I'm hoping to learn how to do this. As I said previously, I want to insert this file on the left side of the page running alongside and at the top of the Art Career section. MERCI!!!! Gaw54 (talk) 20:09, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- Gaw54: I think the image you are referring to is File:ChineseChair1.jpg. I see you uploaded it on 16 October. I suggest you include something about it in the text, for example based on the details given here. You will see from my edit that you can use the standard thumb sequence, just adding "left". Hope this helps.--Ipigott (talk) 07:57, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you Ipigott! Your assistance is much appreciated. I think I'm getting the hang of this process and will work on uploading more images soon. Gaw54 (talk) 03:55, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- Gaw54: Just let me know if you need further assistance. You might find it useful to create a gallery. See for example "Gallery of paintings" in Skagen Painters.--Ipigott (talk) 07:14, 19 October 2024 (UTC)

Assistance request
editHi dear @Ipigott
I have written a new article Draft:jawanmard paiz , I kindly ask you to review this article.
Sincerely Parwiz ahmadi (talk) 15:28, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, Parwiz ahmadi, for keeping me informed of your latest articles. I think we should give the AfC reviewers a chance to take a look at it. Please let me know if it is still awaiting review at the end of the month. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 15:38, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Ipigott , unfortunately the submission has been declined by an admin. I clearly don't know the main reason. there is realible sources like BBC, telegraph, CBC , USA today , The new york times and many many other reliable sources which are considered reliable and acceptable for Wikipedia. also this person is the only Afghan guy which walk in red carpet of Oscar.
- So this person clearly meet the Wiki policies. Parwiz ahmadi (talk) 17:43, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Lcmascorro on User:Lcmascorro (02:28, 21 October 2024)
editHow can I add pictures? --Lcmascorro (talk) 02:28, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi there, Lcmascorro, and welcome to Wikipedia. In my welcome message on your talk page, you will find links to guidance on how to edit on Wikipedia. As for adding photos, you should be careful what you upload. There are no restrictions on your own photos but most of those you can find on the web are protected by copyright. For details, see Wikipedia:Images. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 08:14, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

editPsst. Was just wondering if we were still going a Results section for July to September for Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/293 or was the plan to wait for the final 3 months section to end first? SilverserenC 05:54, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reminder, {{u|Silver seren]]. I'll put something together. Good to see you are still participating.--Ipigott (talk) 07:39, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- I plan to do my best to finish out the year. Though I don't think I'll join the weekly version again if it's renewed for next year's event. It's been a good experience, but I prefer having more relaxed time tables to work on my articles, so that they're as complete as I want before I move them to mainspace. Just a week for each one is rather hectic. SilverserenC 08:09, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
Notability for actors
editHi dear, I need your assistance regarding notability policy for the actors. What’s the minimum number of significant roles in movies is sufficient for notability? I read it’s ‘multiple’ how many is considered notable, I am planning to make some articles for actors but I am not sure how to understand if they’re eligible enough. Also according to GNG,and ANYBIO if any actor has received significant coverage and media attention but their filmography is not that much still they qualify notability?
thank you in advance. Zuck28 (talk) 17:45, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi there, Zuck28, and thanks for seeking my advice. I am no expert on film and TV actors but there are some helpful recommendations in Wikipedia:The GNG and notability for actors. I therefore think you should be looking for actors who have performed over a number of years rather than those known for appearing in just one or two recent films or TV series, however popular these may be. Above all, if you can show their performances have received critical assessment from reliable sources, their biographies should meet requirements. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 06:56, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for responding.
- Zuck28 (talk) 07:12, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
Ipigott, this BLP could use some attention if you are looking for a project. The one source that was there I had to remove because the url went to a generic home page (maybe the url was deprecated due to age? The web archive site appears to be down; I couldn't get it to work.) Her opera base profile is prolific, so I don't think sourcing it is going to be particularly difficult. Best.4meter4 (talk) 4meter4 (talk) 00:20, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
- 4meter4: Thanks for notifying me. I'm not actually looking for a project but I've briefly looked into it. Her name is actually Joanna Woś. If we had not had discussions about the non-acceptability of biographies posted on theatre sites as "employers", I would have thought her biography in English from The Polish National Opera was an acceptable source. She is covered in this newspaper article but it's behind a firewall. The only informative link in the Polish version is to an interview. Bach Cantatas draws on her own website. Perhaps Gerda Arendt can find better sources.--Ipigott (talk) 07:34, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing out the name issue. I moved the article. Here are a few reviews not behind paywalls in The Guardian, Gramophone, The Classical Source, etc. Here are some Polish reviews at the ENCYCLOPEDIA OF POLISH THEATRE website not behind a paywall [3], [4] . Here are other non pay-wall reviews in Polish: [5], [6], This Polish media search [7], is behind a paywall, but one could still verify the opera roles and theatre and dates from the viewable headline and intro paragraphs that are viewable in those sources. And here is her entry in a Polish music encyclopedia. Much of the content in the article could probably be cited to this last source (which has lots of performance dates if you click on the links). I know I could add these myself, but I am really trying to stay focused on sourcing the chronological soprano list which is tied to a fact checking project I am doing for the editors at Grove Music Online. Everything you (and Gerda if she is willing) need should be right here. Best.4meter4 (talk) 15:41, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
- I am willing but am still not done with the Japanese soprano, have already two recent deaths articles waiting, and next Sunday's Bach cantata. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:52, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
- 4meter4: These are certainly useful sources but I'm really not interested in expanding this article as I am not fluent in Polish. I'm pleased to see Gerda is prepared to take it on in due course. No rush, of course. I am mainly interested in women opera singers from countries whose languages I know: mainly those from Scandinavia but also from the other countries of western Europe. I tried to "save" Isabelle Poulenard as I did not agree to her article being deleted. But the biography could now be considerably expanded by an interested editor. I might also try to recreate Paula von Hentke, but not in any detail. I should point out that although in the past I spent most of my time creating articles, today I am interested first and foremost in encouraging the participation of new contributors, especially those interested in writing about women. I must say, 4m4, your "sourcing" of the list of sopranos is extending beyond all expectations. In my experience, most lists of biographies rely on the articles to which they are linked but it's good to see you are collaborating with Groove. Perhaps you should mention this on your user page. Unfortunately as I am not a resident of the UK and do not have an appropriate library card, I have to rely on the less than satisfactory Wikipedia Library access to the Oxford resources. Perhaps you could turn up the "authentic" Groove article on Poulenard and improve the sourcing of her biography.--Ipigott (talk) 16:20, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

Silvia Weiss
edit(as if we had not enough topics) Silvia Weiss is on my watchlist, so I saw the deletion plan but somehow knew that it wouldn't find support. I put her on my to-do list for 29 Oct, and that is only if nobody dies whose article needs attention more urgently. Short response to a long post further up: yes I had one article for AFD, Magdalena Hinterdobler. I wish I had time to add her latest lead role (Henze) to her article. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:08, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt I just want to point out that this was an article created by User:LouisAlain who was permanently banned for purposefully adding false referencing and engaging in other patterns of purposeful deception and copyright infringement. The encyclopedia has already deleted many articles by this user (not ones which I was involved in the nominating), so it wasn't an odd thing for me to do given the history here.4meter4 (talk) 18:16, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- (ec) I wrote this before the latest tag bombing. It doesn't change my priorities. One tag would be enough: "this article was translated from the German Wikipedia", where the lead is always only one sentence, inline citation rarely done, and copying from sources not regarded as an offense. Not that I like it, but it's simply fact. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:22, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- After edit conflict: LouisAlain is my friend. He simply translated. The problem is the different character of the German Wikipedia (as I just explained) which he had not under control. He was asked to add references, and just added home-pages of institutions. How could he have detected a copyright violation? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:22, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- I checked the German article, created and expanded by Omnika, - never heard that name, yes probably close to the singer, close enough to get the picture. Repeating: that article is the problem, not the translator. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:29, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- Omnika created the German article in 2008, and stopped editing in 2017. Just for background. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:33, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt, I'm only explaining why I put it up for speedy delete. It's been a nightmare cleaning up after LouisAlain. He was a nice guy to work with when he was around the opera project, but I can't tell you how many times I've checked sources he cited only to discover they didn't contain the content he claimed they had. He made up a lot of false material not found anywhere in published sources and introduced that into potentially hundreds of articles. I'm still catching false referencing and made up material in articles. I've also found cases where he directly copy pasted one source but cited another. It's not been fun fact checking and fixing articles edited by LouisAlain. When I saw the article was literally a copy paste of the German wiki page when put into google translate and saw that there was no attribution in the edit history, I correctly assumed that this was another copyright infringement case by Louis. We've deleted several of those already; although in this case because it was a translate copy vio internal to wikipedia it was easy enough to add an attribution (which I wasn't aware of until yesterday's experience). In other cases we've had to delete articles or portions of articles for copyright infringement. Best4meter4 (talk) 18:38, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- We will have to disagree that he intended copyvio, but it happens when you translate something that was copied. I would have a hard time finding sources for Silvia Weiss. GLS is given in the German article but I found no trace, not in Operissimo for example. Perhaps waste of time altogether. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:49, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- The GLS was added to the German article in 2022, - after the translation. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:08, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt It looks like the GSL doesn't have a biography on her but she is listed as one of the singers on the roster in Wiesbaden. At least that is what I am gathering from the way it is cited. The GSL does have roster lists in the back after the singer bios end, but they are just a list of names associated with each house. Unfortunately there is no coverage of her in the Deutsches Theater-Lexikon. To cite the article more thoroughly, it would probably require a dive into German newspaper archives (or Opera) to source the current text completely. She is listed in the casts of two German opera premieres in this book: [8] That would be a good source to add. Here are some reviews viewable in Fanfare magazine's archives. This Spanish language journal article mentions her. Unfortunately the Internet Archive is down at the moment (it had a massive cyber attack which has interrupted portions of its service) for searching archived publications, because I would imagine that would be a gold mine in sourcing when searching for intertext sources containing coverage of "Silvia Weiss". I wouldn't worry about it. The tags aren't hurting anything at present, and eventually someone will get around to sourcing it. Best.4meter4 (talk) 19:20, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- GLS, 2003 edition, was added to the German article in 2022, with a page number. - If I was Silvia Weiss - a living person - the tags would hurt me. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:36, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- All I can say is, address the issues so you can remove the tags. We have tags for a reason, and the tags are all relevant to diverse issues currently in the article. I can't help that you don't like the tagging process, but if you need clarification I can explain why each tag is necessary on the talk page. It should be fairly self evident that operabase, the one cited source, is a primary source that takes fees from professional singers and opera houses for its services which makes it is an accurate but non-independent source. We do need coverage of the singer in independent secondary and tertiary sources, and the article's current text was created on the German wiki without references and was essentially WP:Original Research. The sources added later only verify parts of the article, and its not clear which parts as not many citations were added to the German language wiki. We also haven't been able to get a hold of the text of those articles. Additionally, inter-text searches at https://www.degruyter.com/document/doi/10.1515/9783110436822-003/html and in GSL in google books yielded nothing for Sylvia Weiss, and oddly that both of those sources added to the German wiki after the article was created by a different user. It's possible something is in these, but I usually have success getting hits when there is, so I strongly suspect there isn't much to be found.4meter4 (talk) 20:21, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

Monica Moss (artist) translation and talk
editHi @IpigottIpigott, nice to greet you again. I have created this article by Monica Moss (artist) translating the Spanish version. I tried to put the translation template in Talk and I get the talk of another article I created several years ago. I don't quite know how to get the Monica Moss Talk to appear. If you can help me, thank you very much DamAzul (talk) 09:31, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- DamAzul: I've added the translation template but I can't see you have mentioned that you have translated it from the Spanish in your edit summaries on the biography itself. You can find out how to do this at Help:Translation and, for this case, how to add a note in accordance with WP:RIA. It's important to follow up on this to avoid copyright problems. Thanks for the translation.--Ipigott (talk) 10:21, 24 October 2024 (UTC)

editDear @Ipigott,
I am back and reaching out regarding the Draft:Bank of Avilla, which appears informative. The article covers the bank’s history, significance in the region, and its services effectively. Given its potential relevance, I believe it could be a valuable addition to the main article space.
Could you kindly share your thoughts on moving it to mainspace? Your opinion and any additional insights would be much appreciated to ensure it meets Wikipedia’s standards for publication.
Thank you for your time and consideration. 𝒮-𝒜𝓊𝓇𝒶 15:54, 29 October 2024 (UTC)

- Dear, @Ipigott
- Thank you for your feedback. The current version does cover the basic details; however, I understand your point about making the content more engaging and informative. To enhance it, I will focus on expanding and enriching the information by incorporating more insights and examples directly derived from the cited sources. A kitten for you!
editHi
Charlotte Heth
editDear Ipigott, In a few minutes I will move a page on Charlotte Heth to main space and add some categories. If you happen to notice it and if you had the time, I would be very grateful for a pair of eyes, (especially yours!) to see that it is not too wonky? Balance person (talk) 14:36, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Balance person:: Looks fine to me. I'll see how you cope with categories, etc.--Ipigott (talk) 14:42, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks very much for your speedy attention! I have done some categories though not quite sure how to get them in a better order. Balance person (talk) 14:50, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
Danger of WMF revealing the identity of editors to an Indian court
editMay I draw everyone's attention to an important discussion on Wikipedia:Village pump (WMF) headed "The Asian News International vs. Wikimedia Foundation situation". We are close to reaching the stage on 8 November when WMF intends to reveal to an Indian court the identity of editors acting in good faith who have been accused of misrepresenting the activities of ANI. It seems to me we should take all possible steps to avoid any details leading to the personal identification of these editors, particularly those in India. --Ipigott (talk) 15:12, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- I have been following this entire episode for a long time. The facts mentioned about ANI in the Wikipedia article are entirely accurate. However, it's truly unfortunate that the Wikimedia Foundation discreetly provided information about that editor to the Indian court. Baqi:) (talk) 15:23, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- As far as I can see, Jannatulbaqi, the Indian editor's identity has not yet been revealed. The plan is that WMF should provide relevant information to the Dehli Court judge under sealed cover on 8 November. I think the Wikipedia community should try to prevent this. If the identity of one "offending" editor can be revealed, then no other editor will be able to rely on future protection.--Ipigott (talk) 15:53, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- Certainly. The issue is that if the Wikimedia Foundation discloses information about an editor this time, it could set a damaging precedent for the future. This would likely create a stigma for the Foundation and cause editors to hesitate or fear contributing to articles. You're absolutely right; we should strongly urge the Foundation to avoid taking this step. Baqi:) (talk) 16:03, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- What we need is apparently a "community response" but although I would be ready to help things along, I have no idea how to embark on such an initiative.--Ipigott (talk) 16:27, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- Let's discuss this on the talk page of the Asian News International article. Many other editors are also concerned about this issue, so engaging there would allow everyone to share their perspectives. Baqi:) (talk) 16:58, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestion. I'll certainly add something there but the page is already filled with comments on the case. I would welcome any suggestions on how to put forward a community response to WMF on the matter.--Ipigott (talk) 17:44, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Ipigott I think the only way to pursue that would be through an WP:RFC. You might consider raising the issue at Talk:RFC and get input there as to the correct process/format for doing that. Thanks for posting about this concerning issue. Best.4meter4 (talk) 21:00, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, 4meter4, for this suggestion. I have posted an item on WP:RFC as there is little activity on the corresponding talk page. I am also happy to see that Espresso Addict has added a specific proposal to the Village pump (WMF) page headed "Should we send an open letter?". It looks as if this is receiving considerable support and could lead to action over the next few hours.--Ipigott (talk) 08:48, 6 November 2024 (UTC)

- While intensive discussions have continued on Village Pump (WMF), with only a few hours to go before the Delhi High Court hearing on 8 November, no concrete steps have yet been taken to publish an open letter to WMF. Some seem to believe more time is available while others call for immediate action. I feel I have done what I can to stress the importance of this matter on various sites but do not have the authority or experience to take things further.--Ipigott (talk) 10:36, 7 November 2024 (UTC)

For a surprise, a Bach cantata is on the Main page today, where it was last year for the 300th anniversary, and they were too lazy to find something new ;) - Look at my story, and listen to the 3 whole-tone steps and the dialogues of Fear and Hope. - An open letter open to be signed - I haven't checked that you did! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:15, 7 November 2024 (UTC)

Requesting review Annabella Fleck
editHi @Ipigott, I hope you’re doing well. Today I made one more woman blue. Please review the article if you are available.
Article: Annabella Fleck
Thanks in advance!! Zuck28 (talk) 21:17, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi there, Zuck28. I am happy to see you are continuing to create biographies of women but I really cannot follow up on individual requests for review. While I keep an eye on new articles about women, I think it would be useful for other contributors to review your articles. You might receive useful feedback from them and they will become more aware of your contributions. But please let me know if you run into any difficulties. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 07:22, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
Thankyou for rating
editPasqualina Perrig-Chiello in Class C. According to the rules: May I ask you what I can improve? I write many biographies in German WP, also her biography. I have seen (use of pic) that she was listed in en:WP in several projects regarding successful women in science and therefore I have translated and adapted the article. I am aware that there are differences in "howto" between de an en. I really want to learn and reach "B" after this improvement. I suggest to discuss it here or an my disc, not at the article disc? Wortulo (talk) 15:29, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, Wortulo. for striving to improve the article and welcome to the English Wikipedia. It's really good to see you are interested in creating biographies here in addition to your creations and improvements in German. As for Perrig-Chiello, the article is nearing B class but the main problem is that there are two paragraphs requiring citations. I see you have used the Wikipedia translation approach to create the English version. While this is not too bad, if you intend to continue translating from German, I would recommend you try Deepl, where you can translate lengthy chunks free of charge. I've made a few copy edits on PP-C but I strongly encourage you to add the missing citations. In connection with books, it would be useful to add ISBN numbers. Even if you have improved the German version of the article, you need to follow Help:Translation and include a reference to the German version in one of your edit summaries. I hope all these requirements do not discourage you from continuing to create articles on the EN wiki. If you are interested in creating more articles about women, you might like to join WikiProject Women in Red where we are trying to improve coverage of women. You can sign up under "New registrations" on Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/New members. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 17:18, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Dear Ipigott, thank you very much for your helpful critics and work in article you have already done. That is not a matter of course in de and also here. But this I like @Wikipedia!
- To make it short: the 2 missing references happened due to some changes de->en. It was with a reference to her CV (in biographies we can use, when it is published @nonprivate page - here university. Also here?). But I have added 2 new external references too. ISBN also are added with template. "venia legendi" was a redirection to habilitation. Italien was a lapsus :-)
- Regarding translation: I used indeed Deepl, then a "nearly native speaker" to check and then Deepl write to improve. Because I am not a native speaker there always remains a difference to it. Especially when I try some post-editing.
- Because you are interested in Informatics: My actual topic is AI and Wikipedia (KI in German), we try to establish a project and I write most of the texts there. AI and translation is a topic. Sure your browser can translate.
- I'm actually fluent in German, Wortulo, and can see your WikiProject is coming along well. As you probably know we also have Wikipedia:WikiProject Artificial Intelligence. I see your EN user page provides a link to your DE page but it might be useful to provide a few basic details about yourself and your interests in English too, particularly if you now intend to be more active in English.--Ipigott (talk) 11:32, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- I haven't seen this project yet (added to our list), but AI Cleanup (received greater media coverage here because of the analysis, that about 5% in en:WP is generated with AI). Probably AI Cleanup is more active? We think about a similar system, but what we will do is open. Our first meeting is in 2 weeks. To prepare it costs the most time at the moment. To write more about me on my EN user page is a good idea, also when we will co-operate with projects.

- @Wortulo: Good to see we agree on Deepl -- which is of course based on AI.--Ipigott (talk) 06:40, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- You continued to improve the article, thanks again. I am still hot to reach B :-) Can I do something for it? No stress, in German we say: We are not on the run. BTW. Some improvements I will also use for German article. I think, that it is a good reviewing what you do. --Wortulo (talk) 08:08, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Wortulo: I've upgraded it to B although ORES and Rater would prefer a C rating, no doubt because it still contains less than 500 words of running text and is presented as a CV rather than an encyclopedic article. But I recommend you now leave it as it is and start work on something else.--Ipigott (talk) 08:24, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thankyou very much. I will follow your recommendation. Similar discussion we also have in German. CV is the minimum, but I tried to expand and not to formulate like CV. But there is no scandal or so :-). She is a scientist, successful (not only compared to women!) and bestseller autor. I guess it's only a question of time when her last book will also will be published in English. ORES and Rater I will study nevertheless. Not to forget: its or hobby :-) It was a pleasure to talk with you. Wortulo (talk) 11:00, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Wortulo:: If your next article is also a biography of a woman, you'll find some useful advice in the Women in Red essays, starting with our Ten Simple Rules. And please consider joining the project as I suggested earlier. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 11:14, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

editHi, could you please mark this article as reviewed? And rate it on Wikipedia's content assessment scale? I created it, but for some reason it doesn't show up in my 'Articles Created' tab, I don't know why. Thanks in advance. Mlody1312 (talk) 09:06, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi there, Mlody1312, and thank you for alerting me. The reason you have not been credited with Arctic fox fur is that it was first created by Mabalu as a redirect to List of types of fur. You've now created a really informative, well presented article which would deserve a B rating if you could add citations to the few paragraphs where they are still missing. Keep up the good work!--Ipigott (talk) 09:23, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- Well, it's no longer a redirect. Now that it is a separate article, I have no chance of being credited? As for the sources, I only did the translation, but I'm not the author of the original article, so I can't help. Class C will also be ok. Mlody1312 (talk) 10:37, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Mlody1312: I'm afraid it's too late to have this one credited to you. If you want to create other articles which are redirects, you should first have the redirect deleted or choose a slightly different title (e.g. Arctic or polar fox fur). I suggest you should just list the article on your user page as one of your creations. The German sources referred to various items of text preceding them. I've now combined some of the paragraphs in the EN version and upgraded it to B.--Ipigott (talk) 11:11, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from Owenmgaffney (14:26, 19 November 2024)
editHi - i am a published author and am keen to create a page about one book (Earth for all) and its associated research initiative which is linked to the Limits to Growth work (that is covered extensively on Wikipedia). --Owenmgaffney (talk) 14:26, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi there, Owenmgaffney, and thank you for seeking my advice. First of all, as you can see under Wikipedia:Autobiography, Wikipedia does not recommend contributors should write articles about themselves or their achievements. While such articles are not forbidden, they should be prepared in draft form, e.g. in this case as user:Owenmgaffney/Earth for All, and should be carefully checked by experienced editors before being moved to mainspace. Articles about books should be based on sources which are completely independent of the author or publisher such as articles in reliable newspapers and journals and critiques by recognized commentators. You will find further guidance under Wikipedia:Notability (books). If you feel you can put something together along these lines, please let me know and I'll try to provide feedback.--Ipigott (talk) 16:01, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
Could you assist me with the error?
editHi @Ipigott . I hope you're having a wonderful evening. I was wondering why my draft was taking a long to get reviewed :3 I tried moving to (Article). However, I'm unable to as it's showing some error. Maybe can you guide me what's the issue? Is it possibly because the draft was not reviewed? If so, I would appreciate you if you could. The draft is Draft:Sarvesh Shashi. It's a Yogi and I have recently attended his workshops before writing the article. Very thankful, @Ipigott. IcedKoffee (talk) 19:40, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi there, IcedKoffee. There's no error. It's just that drafts submitted to AfC can take up to six weeks to be reviewed. At first sight, the article seems fine. I'll take a closer look later. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 07:20, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your time, @Ipigott. I'd be happy to improve if there's any feedback about the article. Looking forward to your review, and please take your time. No stress. Thank you again! ✌️ IcedKoffee (talk) 12:16, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- IcedKoffee: I have looked more carefully through the article and tried to move it to article space but apparently there's a problem with a "protected page" which usually requires the help of an administrator. I was wondering if Victuallers could take a look and advise on further action.--Ipigott (talk) 15:55, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the assistance @Ipigott. I really appreciate it. @Victuallers as well. I think the page is moved to main and is live now. Thank you again, guys. Especially @Ipigott, for your time! Looking forward to contributing more. IcedKoffee (talk) 17:17, 20 November 2024 (UTC)

Requesting review Dargah Hazrat Sheikh Musa
editHi @Ipigott, I hope you’re doing well. Recently I created this article about a historical religious place in India. Can you please review it? This has gone unnoticed for a while. Dargah Hazrat Sheikh Musa
Zuck28 (talk) 17:44, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Zuck28:: I've reviewed it but added a tag calling for more inline citations. Each paragraphy should have at least one citation but you can of course use the same citations as often as necessary. In some cases, your might be able to combine paragraphs, especially the shorter ones. Let me know when you have completed improvements and I'll remove the tag. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 08:32, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Ipigott Thank you for your prompt response. I have made the required changes. You can check and remove the tag.

When will this article Radhikaraje Gaekwad appear on the top search result
editCan someone please tell me when and how will this article appear as the top search result when someone will search the topic? dsrprj (talk)
- Hi there, dsrpr. If you turn up the article and click on "View history", you can then click on "Pageviews" where you will see the article has been viewed over 1,500 times with a daily average of over 70. That's pretty good for an article like this but most views at the moment seem to go to Trump and his team. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 15:58, 26 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from Semampunya
editHi there! I hope this message finds you well. I recently created the article for actress Marsha Timothy and ended up with the unreferenced section banner in the Filmography section. I'm wondering if I need to cite every film an actor is in to avoid this happening? Thank you! Semampunya (talk) 15:35, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi there, Semampunya. In the meantime, I see you have added all the necessary references. I'm no expert on films and film actors but it seems to me that if you can find reliable biographies which cite the films, you could use those sites as citations for most of the films, adding individual citations for any others. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 15:46, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Noted. Thank you @Ipigott! Have a nice day. Semampunya (talk) 17:37, 26 November 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Ipigott, I hope you’re doing well, This article I created a while ago, was assessed and determined as a stub by you, but I believe the article has been expanded since then and no longer is a stub.
I am not sure if this is appropriate to request a reassessment like this, please let me know your thoughts about this, is the re-assessment of articles like these necessary or not?
Thank you in advance for your assistance and guidance. Zuck28 (talk) 12:42, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Zuck28: Thanks for your query. I tend to take a rather traditional view of article rating. For me, Baryl Vanneihsangi is still very much a stub (see Wikipedia:Stub) as it contains only 187 words of running text. I believe a Start class article should contain at least 250 words of running text (i.e. without headings, bullet-point lists, references, etc.) and should rely on acceptable sources. That said, automated tools such as Rater and ORES frequently suggest higher ratings but it should be remembered that they were not developed specifically for the EN wiki. One of the reasons I hesitate to assign Start class too soon is that I believe editors should strive to improve their articles to a state where they really deserve Start or higher. If you come across Stub-rated articles with 300 words or more of running text, you can of course upgrade them yourself but I would not recommend upgrading shorter articles. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 13:55, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot for the insight!

Graphs
editHello, I’ve been working to add running text to the demographics section of Contern, and I wanted to add graphs, it appears the template:graph hasn’t been working for a while and on many pages I just see graphs are actually images from commons, which makes me wonder, can I make graphs on excel for example, then screenshot them and use them here? Or does that fall under the copyright of Microsoft. N1TH Music (talk) 12:44, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- @N1TH Music: I'm afraid I'm no expert on graphs but you should look through Wikipedia:Graphs and charts which has a section on Excel spreadsheets.--Ipigott (talk) 14:02, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
