Years of birth / death?

edit

Do you have a source for 1536-1614? I think these may be the dates of his much older brother Felix's dates. They differ from the dates for Thomas the younger (1574-1628) suggested by the library of congress name authority file. I don't have to hand either the 1963 diary translation, or Emmanuel Le Roy Ladurie's Beggar and the Professor (which it would be nice to reference) Dsp13 (talk) 00:09, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hm, I think you're right. I thought I'd got these from Literature of Travel and Exploration, but I don't have my own copy to check, and (though this may be a shade WP:OR), if he was "young" and a medical student in 1599 then a 1536 birth date has to be wrong. A search in Google Books for "Thomas Platter the Younger" + 1574 yields these hits, so I'm going to go ahead and change them in the article. Thanks for the headsup! In fact the Lit of Travel and Exploration is in Google Books itself and confirms your hunch: http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=a2esfSswEc8C&pg=PA967&dq=1574+"Thomas+Platter+the+Younger" . Gonzonoir (talk) 10:41, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
