transverse?

edit

frogs that transverse the entire horizontal screen Shouldn't that be traverse ? DaveDodgy (talk) 04:27, 23 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Easter Egg?

edit

decided to leave it in and make it an easter egg.[citation needed]

AFAIR, it's not an easter egg, as you simply GO INTO the next level, when you've won the first level, right ?DaveDodgy (talk) 04:29, 23 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sheet music

edit

How can I get the sheet music to this ?

It will need to be a 2 handed thing (left hand plays bassline/chords, right hand plays melody), assuming it's played on a keyboard.

Or even just the frequency & duration of the tones that the computer's sound IC (SID chip, in a C64) is being told to play.

I could convert that to sheet music. DaveDodgy (talk) 05:08, 23 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

"one of the largest games ever created for the Atari 2600"

edit

While it feels expansive, it's nowhere near the largest original-lifetime commercial title by data size (being 10kb all in, versus a plethora of published 16kb titles, a handful of 12kb titles, and at least one Brazil-only 64kb title). Something like Solaris with a randomised world is probably also technically "bigger" in the perceptual sense. So is this comment justified? — 2620:0:1003:1003:19F0:B6FA:F3AA:B2F9 (talk) 14:14, 21 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Open World

edit

I’d like to get a consensus on this. I believe this game should be included in the “Open world video games” category, as is sourced here: https://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/1902/game_design_essentials_20_open_.php?print=1.

What does everyone else think?Dohvahkiin (talk) 18:43, 13 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

I think it would be a misuse of categorization. According to WP:CATDEF, a category should preferably represent a defining characteristic, i.e. "one that reliable sources commonly and consistently define the subject as having". Is "Pitfall II" commonly being referred to as open-world?
The source you provided clearly establishes one fact: that a particular editor in a particular article considered "Pitfall II" to be open-world. I would have nothing against mentioning that fact in the article, similarly to that sentence about Metroidvania in The Pharaoh's Curse (video game). --Krótki (talk) 22:45, 16 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
As a counterpoint, Pitfall II is an old game, so many of the sources that have discussed it have not used the term open world, as it wasn’t really a term back then. And the game has few sources to begin with.Dohvahkiin (talk) 15:07, 19 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
In my book this would indicate that "open world" is not a defining characteristic of Pitfall II.--Krótki (talk) 23:07, 19 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
But, as I stated, what little sources there are, don’t describe it as such BECAUSE of how okd they are. The term open world wasn’t a thing. Not really enough to form a conclusion based on that.Dohvahkiin (talk) 04:18, 21 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Of course! That means we have to focus on reliable sources published, say, after GTA3 made "open world" a thing. Do such sources consistently and commonly define the game's genre as open-world? --Krótki (talk) 12:11, 25 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
https://cse.google.com/cse?cx=003516479746865699832:leawcwkqifq Looking here, theres only 5 sources that talk about Pitfall II. 1 or 2 describe it as being open world.Dohvahkiin (talk) 00:07, 29 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Re-write

edit

Hello all. I basically took an axe to this article and re-wrote the entire thing in an effort to improve it. It definitely needs copy-editing but it now has a production section, gameplay, intro, release, reception and release. I figured if I was improving Pitfall!, Pitfall II needs some love too. If you have any questions/comments/etc., I'll be happy to tlak them out and figure out how we can fix anything. Andrzejbanas (talk) 08:37, 28 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
