That one is much too huge... If you can select the most important info I support you.-- Bonaparte talk 21:25, 2 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why the share of agriculture is indicated as 40% in the main text and as 20% in the table?

Please change first sentence

edit

Why on earth does this article begin by making a comment about the physical size of Moldova - what has that got to do with the economy of Moldova? Wouldn't it be a a lot more appropriate to begin with the section that says that Moldova is the poorest country in Europe? ACEOREVIVED (talk) 19:43, 4 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

I am referring to the opening words that say that Moldova is the second smallest of the Soviet republics and the most densely populated. It seems to me that that infomration should go in the article on Moldova, not here, and we should begin with a reference to how this country is the poorest country in Europe. Also, I do not think it approrpriate to say "It remains the poorest country in Europe" - just say it is the poorest country in Europe. ACEOREVIVED (talk)

Conflicting information

edit

"70% of total electrical energy power consumed in Moldova is imported from Ukraine and only 30% is produced in Moldova." with a later breakdown showing only about 20-25% of electricitty imports. This is probably info from different years and should be corrected with the most recent data available. 81.144.225.140 (talk) 07:59, 2 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Currency Generation

I've checked online forums, asked on QA sites, and asked a couple of economists in Moldova, but no one seems to know how money is created in Moldova. UK has the central bank. Canada has the chartered banks and the bank of Canada to create money. Where and when is money created in Moldova? Perhaps there should be a diagram of the entire process of the Moldovan economy of how it works? 37.6.3.112 (talk) 22:22 PM, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

Unexplained Overview reversion.

edit

Hello,

On Nov 20th I made an edit to this article adding parts of the Overview from the World Bank site. I then received a message on my </nowiki>user page stating:

Thank you for your contributions. It seems that you may have added public domain content to one or more Wikipedia articles, such as Economy of Moldova. You are welcome to import appropriate public domain content to articles, but in order to meet the Wikipedia guideline on plagiarism, such content must be fully attributed. This requires not only acknowledging the source, but acknowledging that the source is copied. There are several methods to do this described at Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Public-domain sources, including the usage of an attribution template. Please make sure that any public domain content you have already imported is fully attributed. Thank you. Styx (talk) 06:07, 20 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Why do you think the text is public domain? S Philbrick(Talk) 01:01, 21 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Styx & Stones: Adding ping

I then went to to do just that, yet the entire content was anyway removed by Sphilbrick. Why?

I want the World Bank information to be on this page because it is pertinent and authoritative, please inform me what I need to do to keep it.

Thank you. Dhyana b (talk) 16:28, 20 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

I need to see documentation that World Bank text is public domain. I don't think that's the case.
Their site is clearly marked to the bottom:
© 2022 The World Bank Group, All Rights Reserved. S Philbrick(Talk) 01:00, 21 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
I am looking at this page, which I'm sure someone thought was a marvel of transparency, but it looks to me like bureaucracy gone amok.
It gets worse here.
If you can find something that definitively says the information you used is public domain or even acceptably licensed, please point it out, but I don't see it. S Philbrick(Talk) 01:14, 21 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Well, the page in question: The World Bank in Moldova has the following link at the bottom: Legal --> which in turn links to "Terms and Conditions of Using Our Site. There the text specifies:

End quote. This seems to me like giving permission & even encouraging the use of materials/information from their website, but without any warranty or liability placed on them as a result of such public posts. And as long as they're accurately cited as the source. -- Dhyana b (talk) 14:11, 21 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Any license that restricts use to non-commercial purposes, as World Bank's does, is not compatible with Wikipedia, because we allow commerical re-use of our material. See WP:Compatible license for more information. DanCherek (talk) 17:00, 21 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ok, so in order to still use the information from the World Bank website, what do I need to do? This site is cited literally millions of times on Wikipedia, most likely. Dhyana b (talk) 20:15, 21 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
You're allowed to use it as a source of information and cite it accordingly, but you need to summarize the information in your own words, not copy the text from the website. DanCherek (talk) 22:29, 21 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ok. But just to make it clear, using it as a source of information also must respect the 'non-commercial use' license, as per the terms and conditions. There is no exemption Dhyana b (talk) 16:01, 22 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Content from Wikipedia can be used non-commercially and commercially. There is almost no exception. Check WP:COPY. Thinker78 (talk) 23:53, 29 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
No, you don't understand what I said -- the terms and conditions from the World Bank state that using any information from their site must respect their Terms & Conditions. Those terms & conditions prohibit the commercial use of most (if not all) material from them, including information:
<br>
"We encourage you to use the World Bank Group information and data it contains (the "Materials") ... you may make non-commercial uses thereof, but you may not make any derivative work or commercial use. [...] You may use the Site only for lawful, personal and non-commercial purposes."
<br>
What I'm trying to say is that citing the World Bank site as a source on Wikipedia already conflicts with the non-commercial policy that the WB has. Either that, or the terms do not apply in the way that you understand & are telling me here, bc it would mean the World Bank can never be cited as a source, at all, ever on Wikipedia. Written information can be used freely to an extent under certain conditions because of the Fair Use exception of copyright law. Wikipedia does not make commercial use of the information as far as I know. People or entities who reuse information found in Wikipedia should weigh whether particular extracts would be fair use for them or not.The bar to allow such reuse is higher when it is for commercial purposes but that's responsibility of such users. Per the terms of use, "Re-use of content that we host is welcome, though exceptions exist for content contributed under "fair use" or similar exemptions under copyright law".
