Map
editWhere in the world is the Bay of Bengal?
- I've added a map to the article that might help you spatially locate the bay. --NormanEinstein 20:40, 15 September 2005 (UTC)
I wonder why such a recent map has "Dacca" as Bangladesh's capital --128.36.229.95 00:11, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- The data I used to create the map apparently uses the older spelling. I'll change it to Dhaka shortly. :-) --NormanEinstein 00:56, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
A better map can definitely be added to accurately identify the place. (42.109.164.54 (talk) 13:28, 25 January 2018 (UTC))
Q: I wonder why there is not much about the Mangrove forests (Sundarbans specifically)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Peterpan03 (talk • contribs) 03:04, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
Expand notice
editI nominated this for Version 0.5 because of its importance, but the article is very brief for such an important body of water - compare Red Sea. Could someone expand it? I also posted a request at Wikipedia:WikiProject India. Walkerma 04:13, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Dwarka?
editHow come Dwarka is listed here? I believe Krishna's Dwarka lies in the west coast of India. Or is there another place with the same name under the Bay of Bengal? --srini 16:47, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- This information is sourced on the main article page Note 15...On the WWW internet site it states Dwarka is located "5 km off Poompuhar in the Bay of Bengal" "Bridging the Myth and Science of the Flood" by Harry Young Can you source your information about the west coast of India, in support of or not in support of Harry Young's article? SriMesh | talk 22:27, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
- Harry Young's article clearly says, "northwest coastal town of Dwarka, sacred to Krishna". Poompuhar is in south-east India and has nothing to do with Dwarka. The article only says that the NIO divers explored a masonry site 5 km off Poompuhar in Bay of Bengal in addition to their expeditions in Dwarka, a coastal town in northwest India. I have been to both these places myself and am pretty sure there is no place named Dwarka in the Bay of Bengal. srini 08:32, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Oh thank you !!! I haven't been to either, so I appreciate your notes, I am glad you wrote a line here!!! SriMesh | talk 17:20, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Largest bay
editIn defining a bay in the sentence that the Bay of Bengal is the largest bay, is it defined according to any particular difference between a bay and a sea, or is it simply defined by whether Sea or Bay is part of the body of water's name?? If it's the latter, I suggest changing this statement to saying that the Bay of Bengal is the largest body of water named with Bay. Any objections?? Georgia guy (talk) 14:13, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
- This question hasn't been bothered for nearly 2 years. There's a citation in the article, but does the citation reveal that the Bay of Bengal is the largest bay according to any well-defined meaning of the word, or just by the use of the word Bay in the geographical name?? RFC on adding Bengali language name to the article
editUser:BijoyChakrabarty has been adding the name of Bay of Bengal in Bengali, i.e. বঙ্গোপসাগর, with the justification that "It is because the Bay is named after Bengal and it is no harm to write up the name in Bengali language even." I have reverted the edits, as Bay of Bengal has a coastline covering multiple countries and as such, the official language of one countries should not be arbitrarily included in the article, which is in the English language Wikipedia. And, going by the above logic, we might have to include (Bengali: বাঘ) in the Bengal tiger article! Shovon (talk) 15:45, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

This is a tiny snippet of information. Merging it leaving a redirect behind makes the most sense. Fiddle Faddle 11:41, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Adding some important information about sea ports
editDear editors, It will be more informative if we attach the list of all the sea ports located and active in the bay of Bengal. If we do this it will be more easy to know about this bay and subcontinent. So please, We should do it Mohammad Ali Rplsc (talk) 07:24, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
Madras State?
edit'it's now part of India's Madras State '!. Are we making up states now? 73.46.159.225 (talk) 00:12, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
Kalinga Sagar
editHere it is written, in the classical India the Bay of Bengal was called Kalinga Sagar. But the sources of this information are not trustworthy. Because Mr. Mohanty gave his own opinion and also Bay of Bengal does not include only Kalinga region of India. So how can we say that? Kushdeep12 (talk) 15:54, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
- This is cited to an article in the The Journal of Territorial and Maritime Studies, a peer-reviewed journal. This is a top-tier source and attempts to remove it or tag it as unreliable are completely improper. MrOllie (talk) 16:11, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
Already read the journal. This journal is just someone's opinion. He didn't mention it in which historical source it was written "Kalinga Sagar". The citation is not not trustworthy. And how did you know, it is a peer reviewed journal? Kushdeep12 (talk) 16:35, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
- It clearly says so on the website of the journal as well as at the given jstor link. MrOllie (talk) 16:50, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
Clearly says? It doesn't give any reference of historical books. It is just someone's research paper. Kushdeep12 (talk) 17:26, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
- We do not require peer-reviewed sources to meet your personal standards, only those of the journal's editors and reviewers. MrOllie (talk) 17:27, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
Then why are you replying? Did I ask you to reply? Or I can't write anything in talk page. Even I can give a valuable source. Kushdeep12 (talk) 17:32, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
- The purpose of the talk page is to discuss. Why did you post here if you don't want people to reply? MrOllie (talk) 17:43, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
That's why I posted; Group Discussion. But someone wrote "we don't need your..." so I can also write please don't reply. Kushdeep12 (talk) 17:51, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
