Sumner Welles was probably the greatest under secretary of state of all time. The present Wikipedia article doesn't indicate the extent of Welles' influence beyond Cuba.

This article seems highly biased in its approach if only because it focuses on only one aspect of Mr. Welles' lengthy career. This makes this article substandard.

Instead of biased the word incomplete might be used. If the unknown correspondent wishes to state that "Sumner Welles was probably the greatest under secretary of state of all time" perhaps she/he will be glad to fill in/

The present article (somebody else is adding to it) however has added a series of errors, most notable a critical date change 1934 should read 1933; and instead of Batista (who was still unknown outside the army) the article should instead list General Herrera, Colonels Castillo, Delgado etc See Hugh Thomas ISBN 0-306-80827-7 and Enrique Ros (Shmel Jigüe, 10/9/2005)

Badly needs revision

edit

The article is tendentious and much of it appears to have been written by a person with limited command of English. Should be reviewed and rewritten by a knowledgeable and objective person.

Inconsistencies

edit

One problem is that in one section it says he could not have been removed due to Mr. Welles's political base, and then in another section it says Mr. Welles did not have a political base. His service (though controversial) was at an important juncture in United States history, so deserves a good article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eddieuny (talkcontribs) 05:19, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Seems to be a consensus that this has gone from being a Start Class article to a crap article. To that end, let me add that the documentation is spotty AND crappy, and that the tone is entirely POV. B Class is utterly ridiculous.--Reedmalloy (talk) 08:07, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have demoted this to start class. It's more than a stub, but quite poor overall. I hope to change that. For starters, I'll just do some re-writing to put much of the trivia into notes, like the material about his in-laws' town's house! Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 17:50, 8 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
