Why did you erase my blurb about her leaving Chrish and Sherry on bad terms?69.153.161.35HACKED

Reasoning's already been given. You were asked to cite an official source for your claim, which you've yet to do. Follow through and the argument may no longer be disputed, depending on the evidence's legitimacy. Papacha 00:10, 25 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

It is true accodring to one Resident Evil 3's epilogues. http://residentevil.planets.gamespy.com/images/pages/re3/epilogues/claire.jpg

No need for the cap; I've played through RE3 my fair share of times (thanks though). But that's not bad terms, just bad circumstances. "Bad terms" implies that the two fell out from bad blood out of a heated quarrel or disagreement, which isn't the case. Particularly when the two remain in contact and look to one another for help in a crisis. (RE:CV). Papacha 03:11, 27 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, but I think it should be up(with bad terms if possible but I'll take circustances) there anyways seeing how important it is because of what it leaves open for the future between the three. 69.153.161.35HACKED

Wardrobe

edit

I insist that you keep my edit of "fanservice side to Claire." That is really the most honest and objective way to discuss the costume in particular since she is quite feminine already. Claire is nurturing, protective, and maternal. She also likes pink and never fails to have it somewhere on her outfits. :( What's so masculine about that? Is it just because she holds her own, the rest of her personality goes away and she's automatically unqualified as feminine? While we're at it, when did wearing tiny clothes make a gal feminine anyway? o_o I always thought we girls had to be modest. Madonna/whore complex, you know?

Seriously though. :( Calling the little motorcycle outfit Claire's only claim to femininity? That's kinda low class. That's really dismissing her character. Which the motorcycle outfit kinda does already. Why not be honest about it? xP--Zelli 10:07, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I suppose that her role in Degeneration could be elaborated on, seeing as it is part of the canon storyline (in contrast to the live action films). As it stands, the article pretty much just says 'she was in it' and nothing else.86.44.206.166 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:47, 5 June 2010 (UTC).Reply

"ugly polygon 'babes' of yesteryear" should be removed

It's not really about the character, it's about how the 3D graphics sucked in the 1990s. And Jill is there too, but it's not even the point. The pint is she could not really look better back then, just because of the technology. --Barry Sandwich (talk) 12:46, 4 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

How about a pic from Umbrella Chronicles? This one is badly outdated (over 10 years old). --Barry Sandwich (talk) 01:40, 29 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Agree. I've not played Umbrella Chronicles yet, but a picture from Degeneration should be fine. The current one reminds me of the terrible Veronica, which I remove after 10 mins playing. -- Livy the pixie (talk) 17:29, 1 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Done! Hopefully this image does not violate any WP term. -- Livy the pixie (talk) 10:27, 4 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I think it should be from a video game, the trick is to just upload it properly. The film screenshot (?) should illustrate rather the film section. --194.145.185.229 (talk) 16:26, 7 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

You've been waiting a while for a review, and there's a long list of video game articles, so here goes. I've played Resident Evil only very briefly, but I have seen the films...

  • "a male protagonist of the first Resident Evil game, and is herself a female protagonist" Why specify the sex?
  • "a zombie outbreak turned a vigilante." A zombie outbreak became a vigilante?
  • The description section is currently difficult to read because of the way it jumps between Elza and Claire. Perhaps the details about Elza could be split off to a "development" section? That is certainly lacking- who designed the character? It's mentioned in the infobox, but nowhere else.
  • "The changes that occurred were done to connect Resident Evil 2 to the original game. Level Up!: The Guide to Great Video Game Design called her a "perfect example" of the theme "opposites attracts", as she and Sherry Birkin "couldn't be more different".[10] One of C. Viper's costumes in the fighting game Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was inspired by Claire's iconic look in Resident Evil 2.[11]" This doesn't belong where it is placed. The mention of Birkin is completely cryptic to someone who doesn't know the game, and the tiny influence on another character in an unrelated game doesn't really belong in the basic description section.
  • Again, I'm not sure the discussion of film potrayals belongs where you have put it. She's a video game character first and foremost, surely?
  • "In the Resident Evil 2 commercial she was played by Adrienne Frantz, while in the live-action films Claire is portrayed by Ali Larter (dubbed by Hiroe Oka in the Japanese version)." Unreferenced.
  • ""Evil Claire Redfield" can be unlocked in the PlayStation 2 version of the game." The significance/meaning of this is not clear.
  • "In Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)" Specify it's a live action film?
  • " Claire, is ambushed by the" Lose the comma
  • "calling Claire to be" This doesn't make sense
  • "In 2011, Rich Knight of Complex pitted her against Jill Valentine in the feature "Battle of the Beauties", category "zombie killer".[49]" Not sure that's really "reception"
  • Nothing on the reception of the character in the films?
  • I'll go through the references properly another time, but, at a glance, you've got inconsistency with retrieval dates.

By no means a bad article- I don't know why you've had to wait so long for a review! A little bit of restructuring would not go amiss, but this is a solid article. J Milburn (talk) 16:42, 4 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. It was of course an "outbreak survivor" :D --Niemti (talk) 16:59, 4 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes, but Chris was specifically the male one in RE1 (where there were 2 equal-protagonists, Chris and Jill) and she is the female one in the sequel (where there is Claire and Leon in the same roles). The film version is now in a separate paragraph and its reception was in the picture (its caption), but now I moved it around to the reception section. I didn't add the retrieval dates, but they're in the templates used by those who did; perfect formatting is not required. --Niemti (talk) 14:12, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

...yeah. --Niemti (talk) 14:39, 30 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, you're going to have to bear with me. I'm absolutely swamped at the moment. If anyone else wants to take over the review, I'm not going to stop them. J Milburn (talk) 18:39, 30 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ok, some more comments-

  • "The video game series version of Claire is featured in the 1998-1999 manhua Shēnghuà Wēijī 2 ("Biological Crisis 2");[29] a romantic comedy retelling of the story of Resident Evil 2, centered on Claire, Leon and Ada, was released by Ching Win Publishing Co., Ltd. in the two-issue Taiwanese comic Èlíng Gǔbǎo II in 1999.[30]" Very difficult to follow
  • "PSU.com also chose Claire as one of the five characters they for to appear in Resident Evil 6's Mercenaries mode in her outfit from Resident Evil 2 and commented that she "is long overdue a canonical appearance in the series."" This needs rephrasing
  • I know that it's not absolutely required for the GA criteria, but why the hostility towards cleaning up the references? It's actually very difficult to judge their reliability in places, and the GA criteria do require consistency with the MoS. BeyondHollywood? Bioflames? ActiveAnime? ShockTillYouDrop.com? 3dsbuzz? Rely on Horror? Some nice formatting and wikilinks where appropriate would really help here. Also, I'm not sure about the YouTube link- is that not a copyright violation?

The article's looking fairly strong, but the references are a bit of a mess right now. With a bit of cleanup of the references, this will make a strong good article. J Milburn (talk) 18:09, 1 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Bioflames is self-published and, frankly speaking, pile of shit (there's no love between us personally). BeyondHollywood was just for a trailer, I guess - and which is even offline now (due to copyrights violations no less). ActiveAnime, yeah. I don't see 3dsbuzz. But ShockTillYouDrop is a legit source (a horror part of Crave Online) and Rely on Horror is actually only citing Capcom there (this). Which YouTube link? --Niemti (talk) 23:44, 1 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Bioflames can be easily replaced with just that, for example. --Niemti (talk) 23:53, 1 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ah, this YT. It's tricky: you'll find tons of sources about who played Claire in this commercial, but hardly anything reliable - only this (and the commercial itself had no credits, obviously). And I don't even know where it originally came from. Anyway, if it violeted copyrights, it would be taken down (just like Regeneration trailer) and it's up since 2010. But you can remove it after you verified the info with the clip. --Niemti (talk) 00:11, 2 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Well, I removed it. --Niemti (talk) 00:13, 2 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Well, I still think that the reference formatting is a bit of a mess, but the article's not bad, and the sources which are used seem to be appropriate. As such, I'm going to promote at this time. J Milburn (talk) 23:15, 2 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Rather hilariously, I just noticed it was nominated for deletion in 2010 :) If, you're interested, other GA-ready RE chars are Ada Wong and Leon S. Kennedy. --Niemti (talk) 00:06, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Shinji Mikami's role

edit

Hi, looking at this page again and it jumped out to be that the article lists Shinji Mikami as one of the co-creators of Claire Redfield. I'm not sure that's correct. Mikami was only a producer on Resident Evil 2, and (per Resident Evil 2#Development), withdrew into an overseeing role as producer, and only demanded to be shown the latest build once monthly. While that article doesn't specify when he withdrew (and I can't check the source), it seems likely that happened before the game was re-tooled: Polygon's article How Resident Evil 2 fell apart, then became one of Capcom’s biggest hits suggests Mikami left Kamiya to his devices very early, and Mikami isn't mentioned in relation to Elza or Claire's creation.

So unless someone has a source that Mikami actually did play a significant role in Claire's creation, I'm thinking that Mikami's views and quotes at the end of the first paragraph of Claire Redfield#Concept and design (To avoid the sexual objectification of women in video games, Mikami refused to eroticize or portray women as submissive in Resident Evil and onward) should be cut. He doesn't actually mention Claire in the article linked, and if we can't say he actually played a significant role in Claire's creation, then we can't assume that he's talking about her.

Thoughts? Am I offbase here? — Kawnhr (talk) 21:55, 24 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'll admit the last paragraph of 1st paragraph was taken from Jill Valentine article. Ill recheck the Polygon source later. Its good you rechecked the article. 🍕Boneless Pizza!🍕 (🔔) 22:45, 24 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Kawnhr Thanks for pointing it out. It was probably an error since I wrote "Mikami" instead of "Kamiya. I'm still waiting for the article to be copyedited by copyguild editors (I already requested) since there are grammartical errors. 🍕Boneless Pizza!🍕 (🔔) 00:16, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
No problem. But since we've determined that Mikami doesn't count as a co-creator of Claire, are his comments about women in video games still relevant? It's certainly not impossible he had an influence in his role as producer, but the sources don't seem to indicate this. — Kawnhr (talk) 23:50, 26 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I feel like it shpuld be fine since Claire was mentioned at the source. I can ask another opinion from other user who is familiar with RE soon about this one when the article is done being copyedit. Thank you! Maybe I am planning this article after Ada Wong for FAC. 🍕Boneless Pizza!🍕 (🔔) 12:40, 27 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

GOCE Request

Claire Redfield was introduced as one of a playable character in Capcom's 1998 survival horror video game Resident Evil 2.

Reverted by requester. This is grammatically wrong; one of should not be in this sentence. I strongly suggest leaving it as [...] was introduced as a player character [...] as it is too wordy as is when it doesn't need to be, and the phrase doesn't agree with the object playable character.Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 23:08, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Even though Claire has experiences, Okabe said that she is not yet prepared.

Edited by requester. Okabe's been mentioned by name several times in quick succession. Using the pronoun he would be better here. It's also an awkward sentence by itself; I'd merge it into the previous sentence and trim. I suggest

Okabe also hinted that Claire's experience would be more traumatizing than other protagonists' as she is not prepared for such a situation.

@Boneless Pizza!: I've made a few more edits. I whittled down the sentence cited with reference 73 as it was too long. I can't help you with #75 as I don't have access to the source, and at that point it starts to deviate from my role as a copyeditor.
