Plot

Rose surprises her mother with a hug before teasingly demanding the car keys. Alma reminds her that they have a long drive tomorrow. The next morning their car breaks down when Rose’s shift is over. Rose declares it is an omen and her mother declines, getting the car up and running again as they banter.

They meet Derek, Alma’s new boyfriend, at the harbor. It is revealed the trio is taking Derek’s small boat on sail ending in Bermuda. Derek attempts to bond with Rose on the boat. Alma and Derek grow more affectionate. Late one night after an evening of drinking, dancing and a proposal, the sail boat is taken over by men looking for something. They find it but not before killing Alma and shooting Derek. Believing Derek dead too Rose attempts to gather supplies and make repairs to the ship that was set afire by the men. Eventually Rose discovers Derek in the water who reveals he has known and loved Alma for a long time.

Derek realizes they are sailing in the wrong direction and has a breakdown. Rose is able to redirect the boat and they make it to a small island. Derek reveals that after many years of being a decent cop and getting nowhere, he begins to work with other dirty cops and eventually rips them off, these are the men who boarded his ship and the captain shot Alma. Derek tells Rose he lied to her to gain her trust because he knew he needed to kill her before being rescued as she would raise too many questions. He attempts to kill Rose but she escapes and makes it back to the life boat.

Rose is rescued by the captain’s minions and after dinner and a shower she flirts with the captain before killing him and taking revenge on the crew. While taking revenge, Rose discovers many of the captain’s young women hostages and works with another captor to finish off the rest of the crew and free the young women.

They achieve this just in time to see the lights of approaching land. Interviewed after the rescue, Rose learns that the stolen young women are being reunited with their families and Rose will be sent home as well. Rose cries when she admits she has no home anymore, she has nothing. The detective encourages her that she has a future and one that she fought for at that.
