Image:CompareChariklo2.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading that image, it's very fascinating. Is that what Chariklo actually looks like, or were you doing it by imagination? If it's round like that I wonder if it'll be classified as a dwarf planet.

Anyway, thanks! --IdLoveOne 18:37, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reply

[edit]

Thanks for the comment and sorry for the long wait for a reply. It was actually from my imagination; the best pictures of Chariklo are only small dots of white or yellow, so I decided I'd just think something up. It Isn't that round, but it is pretty round. About the dwarf planet thing, I don't think it has achieved a hydrostatic equilibrium, but I don't see why not... --Interchange88 10:23, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Better source request for Image:Nasa_sedna_art.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Nasa_sedna_art.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talkpage. Thank you. MECUtalk 20:02, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think I ever thanked you for uploading this! Do you have any knowledge of if or when they're going to do a flyby of a centaur? --IdLoveOne (talk) 20:33, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I researched a bit, and found this: http://gltrs.grc.nasa.gov/reports/2006/TM-2006-214236.pdf. Hit ctrl+f and type "centaur flyby", or just look for Table XII, which contains flyby dates.
Thanks, and I did thank you, I foolishly forgot to check a couple of paragraphs upward. --IdLoveOne (talk) 21:46, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Interchange88;

Roentgenium111 has noticed that your diagram for 10199 Chariklo is off by a factor of two. It should be closer to 130km. We were wondering if you could re-edit it for us? But as a positive the current version is as a great diagram showing what the radius of a typical small dwarf planet like 38628 Huya would look like compared to Pluto and the Moon. Perhaps you could make a new Chariklo diagram and label the old diagram to say "small dwarf planet (225 km, mean radius). -- Kheider (talk) 15:23, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Map of Akkadian Empire

[edit]

Regarding your map of the Akkadian Empire at Akkadian_Empire_Map.gif

There are a few errors and changes that I can suggest.

Firstly the area of the Akkadian Empire is incorrect.

Akkad was probably further south than you have shown. It is currently believed to bhave been close to Sippar.

Secondly the territories added by Sargon was the area you have shown byt the previous state was not the Akkadian Empire, but in fact the Empire of Lugalzagessi of Umma whose Empire Sargon took over. It was the states of Southern Iraq only and did not extend as far north as Nineveh. Thirdly Sargon's empire extended as far as Magan (probably the copper mines of Oman), which are excluded from the map. You might like to add Dimun (Bahrein) which was an important entrepot for trade with Melluhha (probably the Indus Valley). Cyptus was probably called Kaptara (if that does not refer to the Cretians (Keftiu)).

Hope this helps

Reviewer permission

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 01:28, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I removed a reference from the article that was broken and causing a cite error. When I tracked down what had caused the error I found that you had deleted a number of "faulty refs". I wonder, since you obviously can understand russian, did you ever consider translatingthe origional {{book|author=Г. Л. Холявский.|chapter=Энциклопедия танков}} to whatever the english Wp version would be? It might be {{Cite book}} or something similar. I added {{cn}} in all the places that you removed the refs, if you cannot add new sources, maybe someone else will. Thanks. 24.34.148.49 (talk) 07:06, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. I do not believe the map you just placed gives the right idea. The article J.J. Racaza has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. Hello Interchange88. I am trying to find the head editor of the WikiProject Former countries in order to ask a few questions about some of the project's functionality. Xuxalliope (talk) 11:41, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest, I have absolutely no idea who the leader is. There really hasn't been any activity going on at the project lately, and my activity has also slowed down, so the project is basically as good as dead. Would you mind me asking what your purposes are, as to your inquiry? --Interchange88 ☢ 20:47, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I asked them on a talk page, so I'll just copy it to here...
When composing the Recognized Content and Articles in Need of Improvement sections on the project page, I encountered many articles not strictly about former countries of the Holy Roman Empire. Does the scope of this task force go beyond what the WikiProject Former countries covers, including all biographic pages of figures significant to the HRE? Or should the WPFC banner be removed from all pages that are not about or contain a section about a former country? If so, I will gladly remove them to refine this task force's to-do list.
But, as for the project, I am very much interested in continuing it, and I am willing to take over its leadership in order to increase its accessibility. I am considering making a list of editors for new members to pose questions to pertaining the project. Would you be willing to be on this list? Xuxalliope (talk) 22:28, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, sure - if you're willing to take over I'd actually be happy to help let some life back into the project. I guess I can be on the list - I'm not too active, but at least I know that the project still exists! Thanks for the effort, anyway. --Interchange88 ☢ 23:25, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Siege of Nöteborg

[edit]

Do you have any "Swedish sources" stating that 440 men participated in the defence of the fortress? Do you have any sources listing the Russian TOTAL losses throughout the whole siege? Those already claimed is from the assault only. And why do you keep to removing the adds I'm making? Even though I'm giving you sources you keep deleting them and that's not very "free encyclopedia" Imonoz (talk) 15:24, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I didn't have enough time to go through the whole edit, let me review it one more time. I am not entirely responsible for the content of that article, so there's really no point in nagging me about it. Please, don't get angry or frustrated, it's just that WIkipedia has certain standards — I want to help you. I'm going to go through your edits one at a time:
  • Commander edits - okay
  • Casualties and Strengths: I have found a source for the figure of 439 troops under Schlippenbach. The Russian book "Peter the Great's Unknown War", ISBN 9785765441985. Perhaps as a compromise between the varying sources, I can put "about 350". That same source also details Russian and Swedish losses, and artillery amounts. That was one of the original sources for the article; apparently someone forgot to put it in/deleted it.

• Random style edits - completely unnecessary in most cases; you must be more consistent with numbering and date styles (i.e. "5 October"/"5th of October"/"October 5"). Also keep in mind tone and grammar. • About Torgils Knuttson - okay (watch tone) • Date edits: also largely unnecessary, although I'm not going to change them back because I'm afraid i'd mess them up. • It is, in fact, a "four-day" wait, not "four-days" (although you could say "four days' ") • More bad style edits — why would you deliberately make the grammar worse? Also, number over ten are written in numerals.

I do appreciate the date changes, and thanks for reminding me of this article. I hadn't reviewed it in more than a year, and there were a lot of people (probably from Russia or Sweden) who weren't exactly in full command of English when they decided to contribute to this article.

I'm more concerned why we're doing it completely after the Russian sources, or shall we say soviet sources? Swedish sources on Swedish strength are way more accurate than Russian sources. If you would go through the talk page, you would notice I send you a link of which pretty much proves that the Swedish force could not be bigger than about 200-300.. Why are you ignoring this? So you have to put 300-439 and all that? Hey, why don't we just go with 1,500-6,000 russians killed instead? As there's Swedish sources claiming that? And I see what you did there, you're completely wrecking this article by doing so, adding the lowest possible casualties for the Russians (which are probably from the Soviet era).. I can't take this serious.
How about, as a suggestion, we don't use Soviet/Russian sources on Swedish strengths and casualties? And you don't go by the possible lowest numbers of strengh and casualties for the russians? Imonoz (talk) 20:36, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've had enough of you and your Russophobia, do whatever you want. No source is ever 100% accurate, and Swedish sources are just as accurate as Russian ones. And don't even think about joking about Russia and communism. Interchange88 ☢ 20:43, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hold on.. I was trying to discuss, and I didn't joke about neither Russia or communism. However, you seem to be pretty threatening by saying that. As you said no source is 100% accurate, but for sure one of these are more accurate than the other. And judging from what I showed you on talkp. this the Russian source is just pretty much impossible, and that will automaticly lead us to the casualty number. I'm not looking for some editwars, just trying to be as correct as possible. I won't change anything as long as this discussion keeps on going and none gives. How did the author of the book "Peter the Great" calculate that number? Imonoz (talk) 21:13, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia isn't about researching which source is more correct. That's the source's job. Wikipedia simply takes those sources and reports them, regardless of their perceived accuracy. Read more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:V#What_counts_as_a_reliable_source. Basically, unless it's obviously unreliable, there really shouldn't be a question about how true it is.

I'll tell you the truth: I used mostly Russian sources in this article because there are almost no English-language (British, American, etc.) sources, and I am fluent in Russian, not Swedish, so it's easier for me to understand them. I'm going to leave the article to you; I can tell you have an interest in getting down to the facts. Perhaps we could make a section called, "Differing accounts" that say some of the differences in Russian/Swedish sources?

Hey, me again. I've come across some detailed work on the siege of Nöteborg by Bengt Nilsson. It seems, I was wrong and you was right. The number of defenders peaked at 'around 440' including the 34 grenadiers. I'm really sorry I bothered you with this, and tried to convince you I was right (when I actually was wrong).. However, here's the link to the work, best part is that it's in English. I'll go ahead and change as much as I can. Imonoz (talk) 13:27, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for Creation is desperately short of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors, in reviewing submissions in the pending submissions queue. Currently there are 1802 submissions waiting to be reviewed and many help requests at our Help Desk.

Do you have what it takes?
  1. Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
  2. Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
  3. Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
  4. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog. You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions.

PS: we have a great AFC helper script at WP:AFCH!

The article List of other fictional United States Presidents has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Sheer trivai

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —Justin (koavf)TCM 08:54, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article List of other fictional United States Presidents is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of other fictional United States Presidents until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. —Justin (koavf)TCM 08:37, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
