Deletion proposal

[edit]

I plan to propose this template for deletion. It has served a purpose in linking other varanids, but the genus is broad, contentiously arranged, and revisions are not reducible to a succinct display. I am generally opposed to nav boxes for taxa, where a taxobox exists, to declare my position in any future discussion. The elaboration of relationships to other, or sister species, is best served from article space, and it is not transclusible; notifying @Peter coxhead and Plantdrew: for balance to my own draconian view on templated boxen. If this form of template is of interest to anyone else, then let me know: I expect to MfD many similar animal nav boxes in the future. cygnis insignis 14:51, 18 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've said before that I am "not a fan" of navboxes such as this. My views are only less draconian in that I'm not inclined to initiate an MfD for them myself, but I will support deletion if initiated by somebody else. @Cygnis insignis:, I'd suggest a notification at WikiProject Amphibians and Reptiles (or other relevant project) when you've identified several navboxes you'll be taking to MfD. My personal grievance is 'what links here', so I remove them when they fall into my scope, there is no complaint but I sense that users arrive and see them as something that must be maintained (as best they can), and having invested effort they do not want to see it extirpated. cygnis insignis 15:51, 18 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Like Plantdrew, I'm absolutely not a supporter of most navboxes of this kind, and will certainly support deletion. Peter coxhead (talk) 21:35, 18 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
