First-class?

[edit]

Hmmm... personally I think the 18th century is too long ago to call it first-class cricket, but I think it's clear from the discussion at Talk:First-class cricket that there's no hope of any agreement on that particular issue, so I have no intention of changing what you've written. I agree with you. I personally think in terms of "first-class" cricket starting when the counties began to play according to an arranged schedule for the season. Games in C18 were ad hoc. But the standards seem to have been high and there is no doubt that the games played by Hambledon against the best of the rest were the top-class matches of the day.----Jack | talk page 17:31, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
