The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is an Android-powered foldable smartphone designed, developed, and marketed by Google as part of the Google Pixel product line. It serves as the successor to the first-generation Pixel Fold. It was officially announced on August 13, 2024, at the annual Made by Google event, and was released in the United States on September 4, 2024.

History

[edit]

In October 2023, 9to5Google reported that a second Android-powered foldable smartphone was in development at Google, codenamed "Comet". This came after the release of the first-generation Pixel Fold the previous year.[2]

After previewing the phone in July 2024,[3] Google officially announced the phone on August 13, alongside the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel Watch 3, at the annual Made by Google event.[4] The Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be released on September 4.[5]

Specifications

[edit]

Design

[edit]

Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, compared to the previous generation Pixel Fold, boasts a taller and slimmer design. It sports a 6.3-inch cover display and an 8-inch Super Actua Flex inner display.[6]

The external screen has a resolution of 1080 x 2424 pixels at 422 ppi. The display reaches a peak brightness of up to 1800 nits in HDR and up to 2700 nits peak brightness. Both displays support HDR and both are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is 5.1 mm (0.20 in) thick when unfolded and 10.5 mm (0.41 in) when folded.[6]

There are two available colors: Porcelain (an ecru or off-white) and Obsidian (a dark charcoal gray).
