Summary

Description One of the first versions of the obverse of the Great Seal of the United States, also the U.S. coat of arms, engraved for the September 1786 Columbian Magazine. This is an original interpretation from the written blazon, differing from the Great Seal die which had been made in 1782 when the seal was introduced. Similar versions were used on Indian Peace Medals in the 1790s, and also on a centennial medal in 1882.
