This media shows a South African Protected Site with SAHRA file reference 9/2/258/0008.
Afrikaans: Planne van die Staatsmodelskool en krygsgevangenekamp in Pretoria waar Britse gevangenes, en onder meer Winston Churchill, tydens die Tweede Vryheidsoorlog aangehou is, voordat hy oor die "magtige" Apiesrivier, sowat 500 m ooswaarts, ontsnap het. Die ingang was in Van der Waltstraat (bo/westekant), vandag Lilian Ngoyistraat, waar intussen 'n Nasionale Monumenteplaket aangebring is.
English: Book illustration. The State Model School in Pretoria served as a prisoner of war camp during the Second Boer War. It was here that Winston Churchill was held, and from where he escaped. Note that North is to the right. The Apies rivulet is about 500 m to the East. The entrance to the building was in Van der Walt Street (at top/West, Lilian Ngoyi today) while Skinner Street (Nana Sita today) ran along the southern side.
