Q:
Are there gluten-free, vegan, and other dietary restriction options?
A:
Nothing in their menu claims to be explicitly gluten free. Vegan is highly unlikely as this is a seafood restaurant on the docks. Thus, their menu showcases seafood (meat). I would recommend confirming with staff before you order if the grilled… more

Every time I'm in San Diego, Mitch's Seafood is an absolute must! This place never disappoints, and their menu is a true celebration of fresh and local catches.
I always find myself gravitating toward their Seafood Fried Platter--it's an indulgent, crispy, and perfectly seasoned masterpiece. If I'm in the mood for something hearty, their seafood stew hits all the right notes: rich, flavorful, and packed with tender morsels of the ocean's best.
On my latest visit, I treated myself to the half wild lobster with butter and Mexican corn on the cob, and let me tell you--it was pure bliss! The lobster was cooked to perfection, buttery and succulent, while the Mexican corn on the cob added a sweet, smoky, and tangy twist with every bite that perfectly complemented the meal.
The atmosphere at Mitch's is just as impressive as the food, with its laid-back vibe, stunning waterfront views, and attentive staff. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Mitch's is worth every bite.
Pro Tip: Go early or prepare for a bit of a wait--it's a popular spot, and for good reason!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 26 Dec 2024
I wanted to try this spot because I've been reading about this as a local favorite.
We walked right in during lunchtime. The inside is quite small but there is a wraparound porch right on the water. Service was quick.
I thought the food was just ok. We ordered the ceviche and fish and chips. It was solid and the view was great. Watch out for the seagulls!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - David N.San Jose, United States18 Dec 2024
A very nice little spot overlooking a marina, with a good range of fresh fish options and even burgers. The fish & chips were very good, but the chips were served at room temperature. The calamari sandwich was good, but loaded with fried calamari rings rather than a calamari steak that the best fish shops serve. It was a real mess to eat. The coleslaw that accompanied both items was excellent.
I think the nearby Point Loma Fish Shop has higher quality Cod with better tasting crispy batter, four filets rather than three, and chips that are reasonably hot. There is a prominent yellow sign with red letters out front that states only actual service dogs are allowed inside. But it's not enforced as there was a huge mangey mutt in line ahead of me.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - 15 Dec 2024
The fish is fresh and delicious. The staff is nice.
We went one evening after checking out the tidepools over at Cabrillo. We ordered fish plates. A little pricey, sure - it's fresh fish. It's a small fillet that comes with a super small container of cole slaw. Man, my family was still so hungry. Give us something like rice or bread or more than a small dollop of cole slaw. Anything. Poor value.
There's a small fee for parking (not paid to the restaurant)
Bathroom needs a code (which the staff is happy to give you)
Limited seating inside so if it's cold bring a jacket!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 31 Oct 2024
Mitch's Seafood is a gem. The food is consistently good. The portions are large. The staff are friendly. The view is out of this world!
This is my secret breakfast spot.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 15 Oct 2024
Truly an awesome spot on the harbor that brings you back to San Diego's fishing village roots!
The location is inconspicuous behind a fishing shop but was bustling around lunchtime. There is a small sign out front that helps direct you, and then you wait in line to order. Don't be intimidated by the long line- it moves fast! I was able to find a seat outside fairly quickly but may be trickier if you're a large group. Definitely recommend sitting outside at one of the bar seats that overlook the water.
As for the food, they have a broad menu with plenty of seafood and some non-seafood options. I opted for the fried Mixed Seafood basket but would probably order something different next time. The fried cod, calamari, and french fries were good but I didn't love the crab cake or shrimp. Their other food really did look tasty though so I'll definitely be back to try something else.
Overall I mostly just really enjoyed the vibe of Mitch's Seafood. Awesome location, easy parking, and casual but lively atmosphere.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 5 Oct 2024
On a Sunday evening the line was fairly short. We ordered a bowl of clam chowder, sourdough loaf, and fish sandwich.
Almost all of the seats were taken out back by the marina but we only waited maybe 10minutes for our food to arrive. I felt the chowder, though flavorful, had too much celery and potato for my liking, thinning out the chowder. The bread was also rock hard, but it was fine for dipping. My husband enjoyed his sandwich very much and had no complaints.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 4 Oct 2024
Popular, low frills seafood restaurant. It's very casual and all about a good piece of fish. You wait in line, order at the front, get a number sign and find a table. The cashier was very friendly and helpful. We ordered and sat at an indoor table. The outside is all counter high tops facing the water. So, a great option if you are solo or with one other. Since we were 4, it would have been hard to talk as a group.
Food comes out fast. We got grilled a swordfish platter, grilled opah, opah sandwich and fish tacos (one tuna, one swordfish). Although it wasn't my dish, my favorite was the opah sandwich. Fish was moist and flavorful. Sandwich toppings added interest. My tacos were fine. The fish tastes very fresh, but not a ton of flavor or seasoning. There aren't any side items, at least with our orders. Just a small cup of slaw (not my thing), which doesn't count in my book.
Prices are very reasonable for good quality fish. Despite the basic interior, the place has a cool, hip vibe.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 13 Sept 2024
My boyfriend talked about Mitch's seafood when we first started dating and I have been curious about it ever since hearing him talk about eating here with such enthusiasm.
I was pleased to see that he was not exaggerating. We had a lovely lunch sitting in front of the bay eating delicious fresh fish .
The reason it's not a five star experience for me is because the parking is so stressful, it really turns me off . Five star for the food.Helpful 3Thanks 3Love this 2Oh no 0 - Ben A.Dana Point, United States7 Dec 2024
