Accountancy?!

[edit]

What! You're leaving the ridiculously complicated, interesting, passionate arguments of Balkan history for the ridiculously complicated but completely and utterly boring intricacies of accountancy? Dear Lord in Heaven, have you thought it through? Some way we can convince you otherwise? Are you tired of life? Have you gone to a doctor for help? :P Seriously though, it is a very surprising switch of focus... Good luck with it, and if you get bored (in a couple of days, I'd wager), the Balkans will always be there. After all, first loves are always the strongest ones ;). Cheers, old bean, we'll miss an editor as productive as you... Constantine 16:56, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the kind words!! Well, one tries to get this project running along but its probably one of the biggest tasks in human history given the amount of work that needs doing to develop it to the level it has potential for. We both know that the current coverage of wikipedia is extremely low to what really exists and is encyclopedic. But aside from the millions of missing articles at least 85% of existing articles really need a lot of work. Its often mind boggling to know what to edit.!! I just wish more edits were active contributors like yourself to countries like Albania on here and were capable of quality contributions. Dr. Blofeld 16:17, 11 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Continued discussion

[edit]

Hi, I've decided it's best to communicate here, rather than on DYK which will be removed when prepextra is made up. The added sentence does frustrate me a little. I understand the need for sourcing; absolutely I do, but it is already. Though not directly sourced in the conventional way, the way that sports pages (e.g. martial arts) source the record boxes is via the external links section (using the sherdog template), which is only a few inches further below. I don't know what your opinion of this is, but for me, your added sentence is a bit of a breaker for me. It seems a little misplaced to have a single sentence between a heading and a table. Anyway, thank you for your help in the matter, I just thought I'd explain myself a little further. Cheers. Paralympiakos (talk) 01:11, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

If you want to move Pyrros Dimas, the proper way to do it is to request a page move on the talkpage and let a consensus build. You think "Pirro Dhima" has more hits? Fine, show that on the talkpage, request a move, and let the community decide. Ramming it through unilaterally the way you are doing it is extremely disruptive. You have done that twice already and if you do it a third time, I will go to AE and request that you be banned from the article. And I think such a request will be granted considering your recent behavior. Btw "Pyrros Dimas" has way more Google hits among English-language sources, so you are clearly wrong anyway. Athenean (talk) 14:46, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I used wp:BOLD. --Sulmues (talk) 15:24, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
WP:BOLD twice? No, that's more like WP:TE. Anyway, I trust that after this discussion there will not be third recurrence of this "boldness". By the way, is this [1] also WP:BOLD? A discussion on the subject is ongoing, and you just ram it through as if none were? Athenean (talk) 18:00, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the Greek side is moving the article's name using WP:BOLD, the nationality is another matter although somehow related. --Sulmues (talk) 18:03, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please review Sandstein's explanation. [5]. I think it's fitting to this case, and calling edits "inane" is worse that calling them stupid IMO, but please let me know if disagree and then I will ask for Athenean's excuses, which never came to me. In addition you still need to present your excuses for bringing me to SPI as a sock of Sarandioti. I'm still waiting for those. However I removed all my edits. --Sulmues (talk) 15:42, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please be civil and use polite edit in using summaries in your edits. Also wp:ninja and wp:or, can be considered really disruptive (Clogg is one of the many sources).Alexikoua (talk) 19:36, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sulmues. I checked out Skanderbeg's article. Aside from the mess of the ongoing GA review, the article would come under quick fail criteria: it has several paragraphs and one whole section (consolidation) that are almost entirely uncited, problem tags, MOS & citation issues (wrong use of mdashes instead of endashes for date ranges, inconsistent & incomplete citation formatting, often no page numbers for books), plus some idiomatic language such as "Venetic" instead of "Venetian". It is certainly not up to GA standards, but would benefit greatly from a thorough WPMILHIST Peer Review and a copyedit request at WP:GOCE. Constantine 11:20, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Constantine, you are welcome to give as much help as you can in this article. I've worked in it before and I would be glad to hear suggestions from an editor like you. Aigest (talk) 11:25, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with both of you. Noli has more than 10 references with no page. It'll fail it, but at least I got some attention. --Sulmues (talk) 11:28, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'd love to help, but at the time I am rather swamped with other stuff, especially since I'd have to go through a dozen of books just to get a picture before writing anything. The problem is chiefly one of sources. AFAIK there the only modern English-language work dedicated to Skanderbeg after Noli's book is this, but I don't have access to it. I think there are some works in Italian and French, as well as some symposium papers, but again, out of my reach. I have however gathered some sources that might be useful for corroboration and context (search for "Scanderbeg" if "Skanderbeg" brings up nothing): Bio of Mehmed II, Nicol's Last centuries of Byzantium, The Later Crusades, Setton's monumental The Papacy and the Levant and History of the Crusades ([6]), Brill's Encyclopedia of Islam as a handy overview (the ODB also has a nice but short overview article), this on his impact on Albanian identity, Stavrianos' Balkans after 1453. I'll also check my Ottoman history books, but doubt whether I'll find anything more. I'll keep you apprised, and if I find time, I'll work on it. Constantine 12:36, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Check this out http://toolserver.org/~dispenser/view/Peer_reviewer, enter Skanderbeg then click Load article. Cheers. — Kedaditalk 16:52, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I saw it. The thing is that I'll put together the sources and then I'll start working on it. We have to first have sources together and then starting to improve the article. It's almost to be rewritten. We have to do the homework ourselves. Thanks for your help so far, nice edits.--Sulmues (talk) 17:22, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sources and Further Reading are I would say 95% complete by now. As a matter of fact one could write the entire article (and for that matter all the 15th century of Albania) using exclusively Frasheri, Schmitt, Hodgkinson, and Noli. The point is to go buy the books. None of the above are online. Potentially this article should have the same beauty of the Byzantine_navy, a Cplakidas FA. --Sulmues (talk) 19:13, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to use the harvnb format, it is best to use "{{citation|" instead of "{{cite book|" etc, because the former has the feature built in. Also, remember to use "year" for the date of publication. If you use "date", the template won't recognize it. Don't link to Amazon, this might be seen as spamming, and there's no need for access dates in Google Books, only in external websites that may in the future be taken down. Constantine 18:18, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, the harvnb works fine with multiple authors, provided that you fill in the parameters carefully, i.e. all of them with "lastn=", "firstn=", no "coauthors=", etc. The template searches by last name, so if these are not clearly marked, it will come up with nothing. Generally, I prefer manual input in the sources, because automatic tools are a bit messy for my tastes. Constantine 13:21, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This user:Euzen is at least a biased editor I am not sure he is the right guy for GA Aigest (talk) 15:06, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Many apologies Sulmues. It was wrong and insensitive of me, so here I have reverted those contributions[7]. I will refrain from restoring those edits onto a new section for two reasons: one, you've read them, so rather like a note for the milkman, it can go in the bin once read; two, it offers no new argument and that is what has personally caused me to shy away from the debate these past days. There are no new arguments from any party and have not been for over a month; everyone is arguing according to national consciousness and this just goes on and on with no fresh proposals. This is not your fault, nor mine, nor any individual's, just a collective mess. Anyhow, I am sorry to have ruined your statement and I promise not to react in that manner again. All the best. Disruption at Bardyllis

[edit]

I advise you to read this [8], and not revert again. Your edit is disruptive and grounds for an AE request. Your edit summary shows you have no idea what etymology is. There is no Greek etymology, in any version of the article. Athenean (talk) 23:53, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

See my comment at Dbachmann's page. I don't think he minds content discussing at his talk page. --Sulmues (talk) 00:02, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If two admins and a "good watchdog" (as you characterise me) are telling you it's folk etymology, then that's because it is folk etymology. I could understand your suspicion if it were just me insisting on the point, but it's not. Even Zjarri conceded the point ("until new sources are published). That should tell you something. It is impossible for an ancient name to have an etymology based on words in a modern language. We do not know the Illyrian words for "white" and "star", therefore we do not know if they are similar to the Albanian words (even if we assume the two languages are closely related), therefore we do not know that Bardyllis meant "white star" in Illyrian. We have no idea what it meant. The Albanian connection is mentioned in some sources because it is interesting, but nothing more. No scholar connects the two, because if he/she did, he/she wouldn't be taken seriously. Therefore, it's folk etymology and nothing more. Please be reasonable. This is generally not a good time to be unreasonable. Athenean (talk) 00:40, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I mean "watchdog" in a very good way, so that we don't have any misunderstandings. I have been told several times to not do OR, in this case it's you three doing it. I'm respecting the sources and reporting them correctly. --Sulmues (talk) 00:54, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Endless personall attacks

[edit]

Your recent activity is full of personal attacks against me. Since you initiated this large scale wp:own and disruption activity, even threatening to vandalize ARNE by adding extremistic stuff ([[10]] far to be considered rs). If you continue this disruption wp:ae is one step far.Alexikoua (talk) 02:16, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The only extremist author used in the article is Ruches, which you continue using, although Future Perfect at Sunrise has clearly stated that he is biased. So please keep the accusations to yourself and start to improve that article which smells of Greek chauvinism. --Sulmues (talk) 02:18, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to inform you that it's a GA. Athenean (talk) 02:21, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I know what a GA is. I doubt that the reviewer had any clue about additional sources that are available, but that Alexikoua and you are making sure to avoid from the article. The fact that an article is in GA (or even FA for that matter) doesn't mean that it can't be improved. --Sulmues (talk) 02:23, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Problem is, you are not improving it, you are edit warring. Edit warring on a GA is even worse than regular edit-warring. Athenean (talk) 02:25, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I added a source, Frasheri, which brings the Albanian side for the history of a territory that was at the time of the clashes in the country of Albania. Frasheri is one of the best Albanian historians, and a contemporary one. It is removing such sources that constitutes edit-warring. --Sulmues (talk) 02:28, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
[11] [12]. Need I also mention the mayhem at Bardyllis? Athenean (talk) 02:33, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For future reference: totalitarian organs (such the one that published this book) are not 'rs'. Imagine if I add books by Greek national figures (eg. Casavetis). Since this article is brought to ga this stuff should be carefully rejected (it's not the first time I inform you on such a simple issue, and please read wp:rs).Alexikoua (talk) 02:34, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Alexi, please spare me the lecturing. Frasheri is not a national figure but a professional historian. You guys are simply tag teaming and edit warring. I'm out of here: I just see a case that the Greeks are writing the history of Albania without letting the Albanians edit. Good job in misinforming the world with a bunch of lies from primary sources and Greek lobby financed history. --Sulmues (talk) 02:38, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry if you were comfused but, national figures are 'Chekrezi and Noli' which you intent to add [[13]]. Frasheri was just an author that produced a work published by a totalitarian organ. Also please avoid personal attacks against specific nations, per wp:tigers.Alexikoua (talk) 10:53, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you feel that Ruches isn't ok, I can make the appropriate adjustments in the article (by the way not much will change the article will remain 99,5% same).Alexikoua (talk) 11:27, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I believe that the article has to rely only on recent RS in order to be neutral. The Greek side is taken too much into consideration and there is a lot of victimism. Ruches needs to be avoided. IMO it is a nice article, but it has some inconsistencies. Just trying to make it a better one. --Sulmues (talk) 11:32, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(Frasheri isn't recent by the way). I can readjust the article so as not to include Ruches (some few sentences in fact). But the rest is 100% fine. Where you find 'victimism'? the article is very carefully written and didn't contain pov features.Alexikoua (talk) 13:27, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
1984 is not dead recent, but Frasheri has published a lot after 1991, so I'm going to include publications after 1991 from Frasheri, who was not under dictatorship for his work after that year. Around the "victimism": if I can't bring the Albanian sources, I can't do much. And I have no problems contributing to this article and even bring it to FA, provided that the Greek side accepts Albanian sources and the article truly reflects all sides POV. That's how you create an NPOV in absence of neutral sources. --Sulmues (talk) 13:31, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also I'm sure we can reach a concensus like we already did in the past on several cases (like in Konstantinos Tzechanis).Alexikoua (talk) 13:41, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I try to do, but you ought to let me use at least one Albanian RS. --Sulmues (talk) 13:45, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Quite weird is that have not presented an Albanian rs.Alexikoua (talk) 14:14, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Maniakes

[edit]

Well, certainly he passed through Dyrrhachium on his way back from Italy, but that hardly constitutes an indication that "operations were mainly in present day Albania", especially when Maniakes is known chiefly for his wars in Syria and Italy. Passing through a country hardly makes it worthy of adding it to the relevant WP, and you can always track the article and enrich it without adding any tags whatsoever. For his mention in the history, Maniakes' revolt was one of the most important things that happened in 11th-century Byzantium, and the Balkans in particular, so it would certainly warrant a mention. Cheers, Constantine 13:19, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Template

[edit]

Please don't make unilateral moves like you did for the NE template, it is very disruptive. The template has to cover Greek culture in Albania, and there is no reason it shouldn't. Athenean (talk) 16:43, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Anna Di Lellio is minor journalist, and she cannot be added as reliable source, as she is not historian, and none else except her tells us that info about Drenica. Please, revert your self. --WhiteWriter speaks 21:54, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please, stop POV pushing. That is not welcome here. You inserted pov material, we will have to approve it before it is in the article space. And NOT to wait until it is maybe and possibly removed. That's reversed order. --WhiteWriter speaks 22:22, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You are edit warrior, and your editing style is awful! I am sorry, but i am going to sleep now. I don't want to waste my time here. Don't edit article anymore until we have some opinion, or i will report you for edit warring. You already reverted 3 times. If i were you, i would report you now anyway. Also, i DO NOT agree with your pointless edit summary. You are not right. I just don't want to edit war. Will you ever edit in peaceful manner? Without claiming, or national promotion? Please, don't be offended, i didn't tell you anything bad, i am just tired of marathon explanation, almost same ones. I dont remember where, but some admin told us that Anna Di Lellio shouldn't be used in Wikipedia, per her resignation problems in 2004, dont remember what exactly. Why should i explain everything all over again... OMG, Sulmues... --WhiteWriter speaks 22:45, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You reverted me twice and I reverted you back twice. None of us broke 3RR and it was a good thing that you brought it to RS. --Sulmues (talk) 23:53, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Templates

[edit]

So it's ok according to you to include the Cham Albanian template in places in Greeces where not a single Cham has lived for over 60 years, but it's not ok to include the NE template in a town that had 8000 Greeks in 1994? I was content to let this template business rest, but you had to open the can of worms. Now you can't cry foul and play double standards. Athenean (talk) 00:19, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's why I wanted to have a discussion at WP Greece, or at the collaboration board that I opened Wikipedia:Albanian_and_Greek_wikipedians_cooperation_board, but you liquidated me in the first one and deserted the second. Now why don't we have a decent discussion at the Greco-Albanian board over this and have a decision? Otherwise, we'll waste our times. --Sulmues (talk) 00:23, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The source says "Vlora", not "Vlora County", not "Vlora District". Read it for once before reverting. Btw, I notice you have been reverting a LOT lately, I strongly suggest you slow down. Athenean (talk) 00:34, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Rv myself before you even wrote here. You are right, it's Vlore settlement. We may discuss the source later, but for now I rv myself.--Sulmues (talk) 00:34, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Now, back on the subject. The solution is simple: Either we include both the CA and NE templates on all the geography articles that are included in the templates, or we remove them. Neither side can have it both ways. Athenean (talk) 00:36, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Since I'm not the major contributor to any of the templates, I would not take any decisions on the name of the Albanian POV. In general I think that future users will feel entitled enter the template on geographical sites, since that's why you do a template. The problem is that the templates are too generic. However this is an issue to be addressed by a number of editors: that's why I will kindly invite you to promise to collaborate in the future in the Greco-Albo board, there is no need that you become a member or anything like that, but that board should really serve its purpose. We will have in the future templates on Arvanites, and there will be another nightmare there, so it's better that we focus on solving issues before they become truly issues. --Sulmues (talk) 00:42, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Templates are no big deal, just a navigational aid to help someone interested in a particular topic go from article to article in an efficient manner. Adding a template should not be viewed as analogous to planting country X's flag in an article. That's my take on this. Athenean (talk) 00:48, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That may not be everyone's perception though. Besides, once a template is finished, its name can change and get fancier and fancier. Northern Epirus is a concept that may cool in Greece, but it's completely the opposite in Albania. Chameria might be the opposite. We as old editors have the responsibility to decently behave and calm down the newbies who might go to wikipedia and start editing the problematic issues, and then get banned and blocked, and as a result they won't edit and enrich the project in the future the way they would otherwise. That's why I really think that if we involve both sides in our board and take the time to clarify a consensus there, we may point for many of our edits to a consensus achieved on neutral ground such as the board. And believe me I would gladly achieve a consensus with you right here, but I'm not WP Albania, but just a member. --Sulmues (talk) 00:53, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Albanian alphabet

[edit]

Will you please be so kind to help me with one matter that I am very interested in? It is Albanian alphabet. I was very surprised to realize that it was codified only at the beginning of 20th century. Then you wrote sometimes about it, as it was only date when it was codified in existing form. I would like to know if Albanian used alphabet of other languages before to wrote on Albanian language, and if so, when did they first start to write Albanian words and what is considered to be first book written in Albanian language but not current alphabet? Thanks in advance.--Antidiskriminator (talk) 14:39, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. If I bother you please let me know. I am very much interested in history of Albanians. Will you please tell me Petro Nini Luarasi was priest of ortodox church in Albania. Since Albanian ortodox church became independent at 1922. to whom it belonged? Constantinople? --Antidiskriminator (talk) 14:48, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why would Constantinople Patriarchy be involved in poisoning of Albanian teacher? Was he the only one? Do you have any literature about that event on english? --Antidiskriminator (talk) 15:07, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I was not totally clear. Can you provide me with link to the literature about those events that is free for reading on internet. Linked sources of informations are not free for online reading. The first siege was in 1443 when Skanderbeg conquered it for the League. How about moving it to the original "Siege of Svetigrad (1449)?"--Gaius Claudius Nero (talk) 22:32, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea and moved. --Sulmues (talk) 23:06, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The second siege happened on 1448. After capturing Svetigrad, Murat moved to second battle of Kosovo Aigest (talk) 13:09, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ne 1449 ishte rradha e beratit. Ne fakt disa autore e ngaterrojne, ca thone 1448 ca thone 1449. Po me shume mundesi ka 1448. Aigest (talk) 13:27, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Frasheri thote 1448. Edhe Historian turk Inalcik thote ashtu. Gjithashtu dhe Setton dhe Akademia e Shkencave te shqiperise edhe Buda me Pollon pra besoj 1448 eshte me e sakta. Ne fakt kjo nderhy dhe te lufta me venedikun qe eshte gjithashtu GA :)Aigest (talk) 13:39, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nderkohe qe Sulltani po mblidhte ushtrine, ishte pashai i Shkupit ai qe mund ti kete rene skenderbeut me forcat e veta.

Problemi eshte qe ndryshojne datat.
--Sulmues (talk) 12:37, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Aigest (talk) 13:28, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Tani ne artikull nuk thuhet qe Skenderbeu nuk ishte aty. Gjithashtu nuk permendet Petrela. Fut dy variantet: qe vrasja mund te kete ndodhur ne 1445 sipas Frasherit, ne vend te 1447, pasi kemi dy historiane qe kontradiktohen, ose nese Frasheri eshte 100% i sigurt, hiq 1447 dhe ver 1445 si vitin e vrasjes se Zaharise. In other words, be bold, :-).--Sulmues (talk) 13:32, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. Aigest (talk) 13:49, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Do one article at a time please. Good addition on New Academy. Although the references we have explain that it became an Academy at 1744 (or 1743). Can you initiate a discussion about this in the article's talkpage?Alexikoua (talk) 14:42, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure.Alexikoua (talk) 18:35, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well I can work on that the following days. I plan also to add more info.Alexikoua (talk) 18:44, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that's a definite DYK candidate. There's some material available in Bulgarian, including one pretty satisfying biography, a translation from Albanian. I'll see about adding some stuff later today. By the way, albanian.dir.bg is an awesome website with some full articles on Albanian studies and Bulgarian–Albanian relations, might want to check it out :) Toдor Boжinov 07:04, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good job, mate. I added some stuff and the article's looking massively good now. I would have approved it for DYK :) Cheers, Toдor Boжinov 17:47, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, my rule of thumb on conflict of interest is that if I haven't worked significantly on the article, I can review it. As in, a copyedit or a correction is alright, but not co-authorship or any major additions. Nationality is not important, there are probably thousands of DYKs about the US that have been reviewed by Americans, for example. So there ought to be no problem with an Albanian editor reviewing an article about a French person :D Toдor Boжinov 21:05, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

October 2010

[edit]
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 2 weeks for edit warring, as you did at Konitsa. During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Mkativerata (talk) 00:13, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Sulmues (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

The admin who placed this block may have not read the WP:RS Noticeboard decision concerning here Konitsa. I was following precisely the instructions by the admin who suggested that I may use a travelbook as a source. I was reverted by two editors, A Macedonian [16] and Alexikoua [17] after that decision had been reached. As a result, they are not true reverts, but vandalism reverts, as I made sure to specify in my edit summary of my third revert [18] and as I notified A Macedonian in my fourth revert [19] and [20]. The block should hence be lifted and so should the sanction provided by Timothy Canens below, which is also unapplicable as a result of the reasons why I reverted. As a matter of fact I had extensively written on the talk page before making any reverts [21]. Thank you.--Sulmues (talk) 05:46, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Calling another's edit vandalism does not make it so. And, the support of Wehwalt notwithstanding, one single comment in support of your additions does not mean you "win". This is not how WP:CONSENSUS works. Jayron32 06:06, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Renewed 1RR restriction

[edit]

Under the authority of WP:ARBMAC#Discretionary sanctions, you are limited to one revert per rolling 24-hour period on all articles relating to Balkans subjects, broadly construed, for six months, effective upon the expiration or lifting of the current 2-week block. Furthermore, you are required to discuss any reverts you do make on the talk page in a minimum of 50 words, in English, within 30 minutes of the revert. This sanction may be appealed as provided in WP:ARBMAC#Appeal of discretionary sanctions. T. Canens (talk) 00:58, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I've reset your block since you've been creating accounts to get around it. TNXMan 15:32, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but how exactly does this block help wikipedia? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:07, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Dr. Blofeld, it is a bit of an overreaction in this case. Sulmues is experienced enough that he shouldn't have let himself breach 3RR no matter what, but this block doesn't really help matters. Constantine 19:36, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A two week block for merely edit warring is not justified. I'm trying to be neutral about this as I love Greeks as much as Albanians and their countries. But if you see what happened Sulmues was reverted for adding something which is verifiable in google books which claimed that in 1872 this place had a major ALbanian population. As far as I can see it is a neutral source and just because it was written in the nineteenth century is still adequate to comment on the people at that time. Unless the source is Albanian propoganda then it was not right for him to have good faith edits reverted. What I see happened next is an edit war wth each editor believing they were acting in good faith. Sure Sulmues violated 3RR and qualified for a 24 hour block maybe and a chance to cool off but a two week block, even a week block is extreme in this situation as Sulmues did nothing malicious or unpleasant, he was clearly try to improve wikipedia but it turned into another ALbania vs Greece showdown. If Sulmues did attempt to edit using a different identity again I think his intentions are honorable and he is genuinely trying to correct the situation. If this is to be about sources then we can open a debate but sources from any period are valid, more so those which are about a place at the time of writing which is good as a historical source. I suggest that this block is lifted and we move forward rationally. Sulmues is a very constructive editor and unless somebody can prove that he is nationalist POV pusher in everything he edits then I don't think this needs to continue. For sure in terms of content wikipedia is losing out during the duration of this block. It is pointy blocks like this which only add to further distress and a very real threat of pushing content contributors away from wikipedia. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:08, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) See User talk:Makaperqafe for further information. It is possible that this account has become unusable. Nevertheless, Sulmues, I'd strongly advise you not to create any other accounts while this block is still in effect. If all that you say is accurate, at present the only page you can post on is User talk:Makaperqafe and you have a pending unblock request there. I'd advise you not to exacerbate the situation, and simply wait out the block. It may be that someone will review it and decide your assurances on that page are sufficient to unblock you early, particularly since the only edits you have made using that account have been to request an unblock. When you are unblocked, you will need to establish a link between these accounts, so that your previous edit history and current restrictions are acknowledged. If you have no positive response from admins within a few days, I'll remind you that you have the option of requesting an unblock via email to unblock-en-l@lists.wikimedia.org – which is what you should have done once you lost access to the talk page here. I sincerely hope that helps you --RexxS (talk) 20:17, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually Sulmues has completely misused a 19th century source in Konitsa and edit warred on this. The most extreme view was that he admitted that 19th century sources 'Albanians' are Albanians while 19th century Greeks are something else... in order to promote an extreme nationalistic agenda. I suggest he calms downs, there is no need to be so enthusiastic. Wikipedia will stay here forever and for everyone you really wants.Alexikoua (talk) 20:44, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(unindent)No, he didn't misuse any source and he wasn't promoting any extremely nationalistic agenda as more sources were brought about the same issue. Please don't poke other users about their blocks and sanctions.--— ZjarriRrethues — talk 20:49, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've expanded Tirana County, if you were unblocked you could join me in editing it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:25, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The nature and outcome of the Konitsa dispute is really not the matter here. Alexikoua, there's absolutely no point in reiterating your position and presenting it as truth just because Sulmues was blocked and you weren't. I'm all for unblocking Sulmues, who is an extremely prolific and quality editor. And that in an area of Wikipedia which few people can actually be said to be positively contributing to: Balkan culture. I share Dr. Blofeld's opinion that any day without Sulmues is a loss for Wikipedia. I have to say I find the whole alternate account thing a bit strange, but I have enough faith in Sulmues to accept their story. Toдor Boжinov 15:43, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Sulmues. I appreciate your articles on Albanian topics. I want to ask you to intervene to fix the mess created by user:DIREKTOR in the "Albania Veneta". You cleverly stated that:I was checking at how this article looked 3 years ago and I found that it was probably better!!! Check this version of 2007 with today's version, please. Who made this mess? . Well, DIREKTOR did all the mess: he erased what has been decided in a related arbitration and now wants to erase the full article (accepted in many other wikipedias). Can you restore the version of 3 years ago, that was approved in an arbitration? Of course you can add your own new sections/paraghaphs to the article: you write logical and impartial additions, because you are not a fanatical pro-Tito croat like DIREKTOR! Thanks.Jimmy

On the Matter of Souli.

[edit]

On the Matter of Souli. In this Book -Travels in the Ionian Isles, Albania, Thessaly, Macedonia, &c. during the years 1812-1813 (Google e-bog) by Sir Henry Holland on page 448 he talks about the souli… He clearly defines them as Christian Albanians. Also do note that this was before the Greek uprising started and that we can consider this a neutral observation by a person who had no stake in the matter.

Link http://books.google.com/books?id=3D9MAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA447&hl=da&source=gbs_toc_r&cad=4#v=onepage&q&f=false

Quote from page 448 “They were Albanian in origin, belonging to the division belonging to that people called Tzamides, while many of their country men had become Muhametans, The souli Retained their Christian identity.”

Thought you could use that for refrence its a gold mine of information and i dont se anyone using it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.52.34.203 (talk) 18:28, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
