NHLPA source

It galls me, to see how the NHLPA official website gets tossed aside, when it doesn't support the pro-dios crowd. The NHLPA 'does not' add diacritics to the NHL players birthplaces. GoodDay (talk) 14:39, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

You mean just like you are tossing aside a National news paper who uses diacritics on peoples names? -Djsasso (talk) 15:01, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

30 Templates in exchange for Hundreds of articles, no dice. How pathetic, eh Resolute? GoodDay (talk) 15:06, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

To be honest, Wikipedia does not work in trades. If there is no consensus for changing the templates, then they don't change. Same with the diacritics issue. Unless you can convince the community to accept a change, then the status quo will remain. Resolute 15:22, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
In agreement, Resolute. There's nothing we can do about it. The pro-dios side will never give up their control. GoodDay (talk) 15:25, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Mini-edit war re West Kelowna

I'm behaving myself, I promise - but please see the edit history at West Kelowna and also my comments at User talk:36reasons.Skookum1 (talk) 19:10, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

My wikibreak is over

As I recall, I abandoned you after you requested my copyediting services. I plan on having a look at Jarome Iginla, which I see is at FAC, but do you have any other articles on the go I could help with? Sarcasticidealist (talk) 07:10, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

I hope my comments were helpful and that my copyediting wasn't too intrusive. Congratulations on another FA. I suspect I'll be pretty quiet myself until September or so, as my reference materials are in New Brunswick while I am in Edmonton for the summer. I might putter around with some Edmonton-specific stuff in the meantime, though right now my plan is to spend most of the summer on gnomery and reviewing. Sarcasticidealist (talk) 02:28, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Team captains

They're not listed on the Flames' players list. Just a few are in the lead. A list of captains is notable, don't see why it would be removed. It's not clutter if it's important. RandySavageFTW (talk) 22:13, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Well if I wanted to quickly know who captained the Flames in say, '96, then I could search List of Calgary Flames captains. But instead, I have to seach List of Calgary Flames players, and continue to scroll through the huge list trying to find it. If I wanted to find a chronological list, I wouldn't be able to. It doesn't even take up much space, most of those FA reviewers are picky anyway. RandySavageFTW (talk) 22:18, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
New Jersey Devils has a list, by the way. Seems inconsistent for one team article to not have it just because it's featured and an FA reviewer didn't want it. RandySavageFTW (talk) 22:24, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

I still prefer the team captains being on the Team pages. GoodDay (talk) 20:37, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

You've been so silent on the topic I wasn't sure. ;o) Resolute 21:02, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Sedin brothers

Have ya ever wondered, why does the media seem to think Daniel & Henrik can't be seperated? Twin brothers have been on different teams, before. GoodDay (talk) 16:31, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Still though, they can't prevent their seperation via a trade (unless they retire or leave the NHL, in protest). GoodDay (talk) 17:20, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

COI image placement by IANA.org image: Premier of British Columbia

This is a tricky one I'm not sure how to interpret it, but I don't like what I'm smelling. I noticed some IP edits at Premier of British Columbia, all from today, by User:174.7.14.105, involving changing/tweaking the image of Gordon Campbell with the final in-line hidden comment see in this edit, which says "do not replace this by an unfree (i.e. "fair use" image)". Quite the demand for an IP editor; I know there've been disputes about the Stephen Harper photo, and also I think about Campbell's photos in the past. So being the suspicious type, and knowing that the Public Affairs Bureau are active in Wikipedia, I looked up the IP address to see where it is...SamSpade.org gave me "ERROR: IP Range Reserved by IANA.org" which got me looking up http://www.iana.org, which was interesting to find, so I went and looked it up in ARIN which told me it was routed via shawcable in Calgary (as all Shawcable is, or rather that's their registered DBA address; FWIU cable IPs can't be tracked to households, as the whole "loop" in a neighbourhood is the same IP...). So I went back to http://www.whois.net and tried Ripe and learned that IANA.org addresses are global in nature and common in many countries...i.e. untraceable. Fine, not really an issue, almost more of a confirmation for conspiracy-minded types (like me). But I followed through the image to see whose it was, i.e. was it an official portrait being substituted for the casual one (with its nice jowls)? Well, no it's not, not exactly anyway. The author for File:Gordon_Campbell.jpg is Mary McNeil, a Liberal candidate in the last provincial election, and as you can see her flick profile is spam-like in nature or "political brochure" in nature. "Source" is given as Mary NcNeil and Premier Gordon Campbell, which is a campaign portrait of the two of them. It doesn't surprise me at all that politicians have begun to use Flickr's UGC arena in the same way they try to use Wikipedia; but to me this image comes with clear evidence of both WP:COI and WP:AUTO. Another issue on the Premier of British Columbia page is whether or not the current Premier is necessarily due the pride of place of being the only portrait; surely Richard McBride, Amor de Cosmos, Duff Pattullo, WAC Bennett are more notable; the jury is out as to whether the current Premier is in the same league of notoriety as Bill Vander Zalm; but it does strike me that having Campbell's face displayed on a page about the position of the provincial first minister is too close to promotional in nature to be entirely acceptable. I could have raised this at PPAP but because of our earlier dealings over the Premier's bio article I thought of you to bring it to first; as to what tags to place, whether that image belongs in Wikipedia at all, given its COI/AUTO source and the political content on the links provided on the image page. The same IP user's contributions show a spate of things on Prime Minister of Canada although in that case the image is from the G8 summit in Helgendamm; but it has been used in a "regal" fashion and again I must question whether or not it's really fair, or right, that the current Prime Minister's image be used alone, with no context relating to notable former Prime Ministers....Wikipedia is being systematically used as a promotional venue, to put it bluntly, and I don't like it one bit; I come across insertions of images of these guys and/or mentions of them all over the place, in totally unseemly places like smalltown articles where their latest visit is given undue weight ("Gordon Campbell slept here",as it were, "Stephen Harper cut a ribbon here"). But actively replacing images carrying credits to political canddiates, placed by those candidates; that seems outside the rulebook. Since I began this post, the same IP user, presumably Ms McNeil though that's unprovable, has made further edits at Prime Minister of Canada.....using an internationally anonymous IP address is a way to mask COI/AUTO, to be sure, but it's still obvious given teh SPA nature of those edits....Skookum1 (talk) 02:28, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

National Hockey League GAR notice

National Hockey League has been nominated for a good article reassessment. Please leave your comments and help us to return the article to good article quality. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, the good article status will be removed from the article. Reviewers' concerns are here.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 04:08, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Is at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/NHL Entry Draft/archive1; you might want to take a look. Among other things, there are concerns about total reliance on primary sources. Do you know any sources that would be useful for the history and criticism of the process? Dabomb87 (talk) 16:46, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Hiya Resolute. I just had to poke that vandaliser (at his Userpage), before the page gets blocked. GoodDay (talk) 00:09, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

That's weird, my -snappy comeback- didn't take (before you blocked his Userpage). Furthermore, it doesn't show up in my contributions. GoodDay (talk) 00:13, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Okie Dokie. PS: I just couldn't resist. GoodDay (talk) 00:14, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

I wonder what User-name, will the mad Flamer use next? GoodDay (talk) 18:52, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Dunno, but I think it is rather comical myself. Pretty sure it takes him a lot longer to create an account and vandalize than it does us to revert and block. Resolute 18:53, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, JC keeps beating me to reversions. -Djsasso (talk) 18:56, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Hey, they are on my userpage and I don't even get a chance to revert myself! I'm feeling a few too many eyes on my back here.  ;) Thanks for the quick fixes... and really, better he wrecks his accounts on my userpage than in the encyclopedia. Resolute 19:00, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
I watch most admin's pages who are hockey editors for this very reason. Since they tend to retaliate when one of us blocks or reverts them after they vandalize.. -Djsasso (talk) 19:06, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Ditto. Loving the misdirected anger here though. I just haven't figured out yet if they are a Canuck fan or an Oilers fan.  ;) Resolute 19:09, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
I was assuming Oilers but the last few years Canucks fans have really formed a rivalry with the Flames. -Djsasso (talk) 19:11, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Actually since I am looking at your page I was going to ask you, did you take the picture with a wide angle lense or did you stitch a couple photos together...Looks like probably a wide angle by the curve. -Djsasso (talk) 19:16, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Stitched. It's a panorama made from about ten different photos, the first of which was File:C of Red Flag.JPG. Damn that flag was big... Resolute 19:20, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

In gratitude for your review in the article Rio de Janeiro bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics and the listing of the same as one of the Everyday life good articles under the good article criteria. Thank you. Felipe Menegaz 16:44, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Photography

I see that you have been working hard getting photographs for Wikipedia. The player photos are particularly valuable as there is a distinct lack of openly licensed pictures of sports players. I am have done some photography for Wikipedia myself: User:Chillum/gallery, though I have been a little busy for the last few months and have not done much of it. Keep up the good work! Why

What is going on with this vandalism? It's not like the Flames have crushed or embarrassed anyone lately? Is there something going on at the moment in Alberta???? (something in the water :-)) Alaney2k (talk) 17:10, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

If I had to guess at a reason, it would be that the Flames suck. Steve Smith (talk) (formerly Sarcasticidealist) 17:12, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
And as long as I'm here, Resolute, thanks for your review of Stewart. I was beginning to think it might make it to the end of the queue without attracting a single review, though I suppose if that was the case I'd probably have nothing to blame but my nomination statement. Steve Smith (talk) (formerly Sarcasticidealist) 17:12, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
I would like to say that is one of the best nomination statement's I've seen in a long time... Incidentally, I love how you changed your name to that of the most popular Edmonton Oiler in Calgary Flames history. ;o) As far as the vandalism goes, it's just one person with too much time on their hands. Looks like it died down a few days ago - Dj was just cleaning up some old edit summaries. Resolute 17:58, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I didn't notice he got two more in after I cleaned it last time so I was a bit late on those ones. I too was laughing about the name change. -Djsasso (talk) 18:12, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Thank you again for your support of the Great Wikipedia Dramaout. Preliminary statistics indicate that 129 new articles were created, 203 other articles were improved, and 183 images were uploaded. Additionally, 41 articles were nominated for DYK, of which at least 2 have already been promoted. There are currently also 8 articles up for GA status and 3 up for FA/FL status. Though the campaign is technically over, please continue to update the log page at WP:NODRAMA/L with any articles which you worked during the campaign, and also to note any that receive commendation, such as DYK, GA or FA status. Splitting List of TEAM players up

Considering you did List of Calgary Flames players, I was wondering what you thought of splitting these lists into individual lists for each position, (e.g. List of Calgary Flames goaltenders, List of Calgary Flames defenseman, etc.) The main lists are very, very long and splitting it up by position seems logical to me. Just wondering your opinion on it. iMatthew talk at 19:38, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Oh hey, I was expecting two red links... looks like the goaltenders list already exists for the Flames. iMatthew talk at 19:38, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, that's an odd one. I just redirected it to the players list. I suppose if it came down to it, the goaltenders and skaters would be easy to split, but ideally, I will someday reformat that list to allow for it to be sorted. It would be nice to keep all skaters together so that the stats can be maintained. Though that would be admittedly harder for a team with a lot more history. Resolute 00:06, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, I believe the Isles and Flames were both 1972 teams. The Islanders just have so many players, I wanted to split it up by position. iMatthew talk at 00:10, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
List of Chicago Blackhawks players made it to FA with all of them on one page, if an O6 team can do it, shouldn't be toooo hard for an islanders page to all be one list. -Djsasso (talk) 03:46, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, it's a long article. I think it would benefit from being split into skaters and goalies, at least. iMatthew talk at 22:33, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

See my comment there. Dabomb87 (talk) 21:14, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Splitting

Seems my comment and your Pilots comment has wp:baseball freaking out. They are all upset that people might come along and say you have to split because that's how hockey does it. It is amusing to me because earlier in the whole debate they were going around saying that hockey should merge to be like them. -Djsasso (talk) 18:27, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Epic facepalm. Resolute 02:45, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

I've no prob with splitting all 30 MLB team articles. GoodDay (talk) 20:04, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

It's not going to happen, sadly. It should, but history is being cheated for the sake of convenience. As there is little chance of that bloc ever changing their mind, I prefer only to focus on my little corner of the baseball world that they don't care much about anyway, and let them manage the MLB articles as they see fit, aside from the Expos, of course. Resolute 02:45, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
It would look interesting, to see alot of WP:HOCKEY members become WP:BASEBALL members. GoodDay (talk) 13:55, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Leave it to GoodDay to get a debate going, I am actually surprised how many of the baseball people are atleast willing to think about splitting now. The situation does actually appear to be moving towards being willing to split articles. Probably won't happen soon but looks like it will eventuatlly happen. -DJSasso (talk) 16:48, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

History of les Habs

Sure thing - I'll get to it tomorrow. Or tonight, if I can't sleep. Steve Smith (talk) (formerly Sarcasticidealist) 04:47, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay - I found myself with unexpectedly spotty internet access last week. I think the prose could still use a little work, but I'd say it's up to the standard of an FAC, if not yet at the level of an actual FA. I'll try to do a second run copyedit in the next couple of days, but I wouldn't wait for me before nominating, especially since I have a habit of taking much longer than I say I will to do things. Steve Smith (talk) 22:52, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I don't get your last edit to the article. You basically reverted changes to the pre-season table you made yourself, changes I think were justified. I restored the table to it's former format so it matches the other tables in the article. In an old discussion of last season's articles it was agreed that individual recaps of matches was not desirable as one external link to all recaps would suffice. The naming of teams is also off in regards to the format of the regular season tables. I hope you don't mind me changing the pre-season table to what is was. If you don't agree, feel free to revert, I won't start an edit-war over this, I just thought it was weird what you did and think you did it in error. Btw your edit also introduced an error as far as dates for the games are concerned, I changed it according to the schedule found on flames.nhl.com.--Fogeltje (talk) 04:53, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

It happens, wikipedia has done some weird things to me also. I already figured this was not what you meant to do, but I thought I'd just check with you to make sure.--Fogeltje (talk) 05:01, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Who else...

... to ask but Resolute — The master Calgarian ice hockey editor? I'm wondering if you are interested in quickly assisting me in a little wiki related project of mine. I want to bring the Fredrik Pettersson article from a stub class to a short quality article (what GA used to be), before the season starts. And I have had trouble finding usable information about his two-year stint in Calgary. I think I recalled him being an alternate captain during his second season, but I can't find anything. So I you have some spare time, could you possibly write a few lines about his career with the Hitmen? And preferably put on my talk page or in a sandbox, because I want to get a DYK but I haven't figured out what information to use yet. Except for those two years in Calgary he has spent his entire life playing for Frölunda, which is quite uncommon, even extraordinary for any Elitserien team to have a player that started out playing novice hockey for the club. So obviously his article is quite high on my wiki todo-list. —Krm500 (Communicate!) 01:05, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Evaluation of the Rio de Janeiro bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics

Hi Resolute! I made a FLC for Evaluation of the Rio de Janeiro bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics, but according to the comments, this is not a list. Everybody said that it should be a GAN or even a FAC. So now I have nominated the article for GA status. Could you review it? Regards; Felipe Menegaz 17:40, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Support for article deletion

I was the one who put the speedy tag on. The comment above that she "might" make the Olympic team is crystalballing which I thought was frowned upon here. I am of the opinion that she doesn't meet WP:ATHLETE at this time which was my reasoning for the speedy. ArcAngel (talk) 22:34, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Dictionary definition of "Throughout"

Please see Talk:National_Hockey_League#North_American for a discussion of the dictionary definition of "throughout" and why this usage must therefore be reliably sourced to be used to describe the locations of the NHL's 30 franchises. If they were in fact distributed "throughout North America" (as opposed to only the US & Canada) then by definition there would have to be franchises located in México, Central American, and the West Indies as well. 1968–69 WCHL season

I see you declined my move request and instead moved Talk:1968-69 Western Canada Hockey League season to Talk:1968-69 WCHL season. This has left things even more confusing. The current main article is at 1968–69 WCHL season (with an en dash.) Both the article and talk pages for Talk:1968-69 WCHL season (with a hyphen) and 1968-69 Western Canada Hockey League season should redirect to 1968–69 WCHL season. I just retargeted the new redirect you left at Talk:1968-69 Western Canada Hockey League season. Please move Talk:1968-69 WCHL season on top of Talk:1968–69 WCHL season and all will be fine. There's nothing to be lost by overwriting Talk:1968–69 WCHL season because there is no history and the lone template on the page is already on the incoming page. Thanks! Hockey Project's future

Howdy Resolute. Do I have to 'delete' my statement? GoodDay (talk) 16:29, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

It's up to you. Your opinions on diacritics are well known, and a personal goal doesn't necessarily add much to a discussion on the project's future. But if it is something you wish to leave standing, then leave it, but perhaps don't engage it. Resolute 16:59, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
Perhaps DJ was only in a bad mood, but I felt he wasn't AGF. IMO, I've been quite low key about diacritics these last few months. His threat of blocking me, if I mentioned dios again, was OTT. GoodDay (talk) 17:04, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Warning

Hey...

You sent me a message about an edit I purportedly did to the article on Dion Phaneuf. Just wanted to let you know that I did not make any edits to that article. My ISP provides me with a dynamic IP and you must have mistaken me for someone else.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Keep on, keepin on.

That was a year and a half ago, heh. It is understood that dynamic IP's will receive warnings that do not necessarily reflect the actions of the current user. It is one of the reasons why it is often good to register an account, however, so that you don't have to deal with such warnings. Cheers, Resolute 05:06, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

The 2010 WikiCup begins tomorrow!

Welcome to the biggest WikiCup Wikipedia has yet seen! Round one will take place over two months, and finish on February 26. There is only one pool, and the top 64 will progress. The competition will be tough, as more than half of the current competitors will not make it to round 2. Details about scoring have been finalized and are explained at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. Please make sure you're familiar with the scoring rules, because any submissions made that violate these rules will be removed. Like always, the judges can be reached through the WikiCup talk pages, on their talk page, or over IRC with any issues concerning anything tied to the Cup. We will keep in contact with you via weekly newsletters; if you do not want to receive them, please remove yourself from the list here. Conversely, if a non-WikiCup participant wishes to receive the newsletters, they may add themselves to that list. Well, enough talk- get writing! Your submission's page is located here. Details on how to submit your content is located here, so be sure to check that out! Once content has been recognized, it can be added to your submissions page, from which our bot will update the main score table. Remember that only articles worked on and nominated during the competition are eligible for points. Have fun, and good luck! Garden, iMatthew, J Milburn, and The ed17 19:22, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

FAQs

Do you happen to know how the FAQs were constructed for the article on talk:Mohammed? We need a similar page for another "world figure". Thanks. Student7 (talk) 14:42, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Sorry that I wasn't clear. I meant the actual method of coming up with the facts (words) that appear in the FAQ. That could not have been an easy process. i was wondering where it was done - at mediation, maybe? Did some admin impose these? Thanks. Student7 (talk) 15:00, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Looks that way

Not thrilled about that as an editor, though it will be sort of nice to be able to get the Stelmach article into a more stable form. As for the WRA, the only other thing I can think of is something about its internal governance structure, though I suspect much of that would be available only in primary sources. Surprisingly, there doesn't seem to be a single GA on a western (that's western world, not western Canada) political party, so there's not much by way of template to follow. I'm rather overcommitted on Wikipedia at the moment (the Fleury FAC's on me to-do list, though there's no guarantee that I'll actually get there), but if you want me to take a look at it before you throw it at GAN, I could probably manage that (it'll be short, right?).

I couldn't sleep, so I created a screenshot for ya. It's not huge, but note the overlap of the word "then" onto the infobox. Hi Resolute. You seem to have a lot of vested interest in preventing knowledge of the fact that the Wildrose Alliance is dominated by Mormons.

Discussion invitation

British Royalty Hi Resolute/Archive 4, I would like to invite you and anyone watching who shares an interest in moving forward constructively to a discussion about Biographies of Living People

New editors' lack of understanding of Wikipedia processes has resulted in thousands of BLPs being created over the last few years that do not meet BLP requirements. We are currently seeking constructive proposals on how to help newcomers better understand what is expected, and how to improve some 48,000 articles about living people as created by those 17,500 editors, through our proper cleanup, expansion, and sourcing.

These constructive proposals might then be considered by the community as a whole at Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people.

Please help us:

The Socratic Barnstar is awarded to those editors who are extremely skilled and eloquent in their arguments.

This barnstar is awarded to Resolute for his incredible essay at: Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people, which will determine whether 48,000 articles will be deleted. You are a great asset to the project, thank you. Ikip 22:22, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Eloquence is a word rarely used to describe me. "Blunt" might be better.  ;) However, the barnstar is appreciated. Cheers! Resolute 00:03, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
RE: WP:IAR was not intended to allow a small group of users to take ownership of the project and impose their own personal policy upon everyone else. The fact that so many people view these actions as harmful to the project should make it obvious that IAR was badly misapplied.
Wow, I couldn't have said it better. I don't know how long you have been editing wikipedia, so you may not realize the outcome of this RFC has already been decided. If arbitrators and Jimmy Wales start weighing in on the discussion again, we will know that their pre-determined outcome is in jeopardy. Okip (formerly Ikip) 03:04, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Glad to hear it is going well in the Greater-Calgary area... it is still stupid here... 36 Jr. A teams in two leagues... all in the Toronto-area... while we have better teams in more supportive centres in the Jr. B GOJHL in Southwestern Ontario... ... ... we just tried to merge the GOJHL, CCHL, and OJAHL and then create a new elite division of around 16-20 teams (while the rest basically drop to Jr. B)... and the teams of the CCHL and OJAHL blocked it... they claim they will downsize themselves... but they are leaving the GOJHL in the cold... teams like the London Nationals, Brantford Eagles, Waterloo Siskins, or St. Catherines Falcons would far better represent our nick of the woods if they were given the chance. WikiCup 2010 February newsletter

Round one is over, and round two has begun! Congratulations to the 64 contestants who have made it through, but well done and thank you to all contestants who took part in our first round. A special well done goes to Hungary Sasata (submissions), our round one winner (1010 points), and to Pennsylvania Hunter Kahn (submissions) and New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions), who were second and third respectively (640 points/605 points). Sasata was awarded the most points for both good articles (300 points) and featured articles (600 points), and TonyTheTiger was awarded the most for featured topics (225 points), while Hunter Kahn claimed the most for good topics (70). Connecticut Staxringold (submissions) claimed the most featured lists (240 points) and featured pictures (35 points), Geschichte (submissions) claimed the most for Did you know? entries (490 points), Jujutacular (submissions) claimed the most for featured sounds (70 points) and Republic of Ireland Candlewicke (submissions) claimed the most for In the news entries (40 points). No one claimed a featured portal or valued picture.

Credits awarded after the end of round one but before round two may be claimed in round two, but remember the rule that content must have been worked on in some significant way during 2010 by you for you to claim points. The groups for round two will be placed up shortly, and the submissions' pages will be blanked. This round will continue until 28 April, when the top two users from each group, as well as 16 wildcards, will progress to round three. Please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup; thank you to all doing this last round, and particularly to those helping at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. BLP sticky PROD

Hi Resolute/Archive 4!. Every attempt to rescue a Wikipedia article is a noble gesture. However, there may be occasions when, with the best will in the world, it is just not possible to accord even a minimum of notability to an article or stub, or find a proper source for it. Most regrettably, even the most dedicated inclusionists will have to concede that the article may have to go if the creator or major contributors cannot justify their work.
For new and recent unsourced BLPs, some users are now working at WT:BLP PROD TPL on the development of templates that are designed to encourage contributors to source new BLPs, without scaring away the newbies who might not be aware of the rules. This template is certainly not another a licence to kill for the deletionists, in fact the very idea of it is to ensure that you are not fighting a losing battle. It would be great if you could look in at the prgogress and maybe leave a word of encouragement. The workshop page is essentially a template development taskforce, and is not a place to engage in a hefty debate on incusion/deletion policy. See you at WT:BLP PROD TPL?--Kudpung (talk) 12:53, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Sens photos

I just wanted to say a quick thank you for adding those photos of the Senators' players to the respective player articles. They were needed. Keep up the great work. Freshfighter9talk 18:33, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Jamie Langenbrunner photo

Hey Resolute, there's an issue with a photo of Jamie Langenbrunner. This photo (File:Jamie Langenbrunner.jpg) is copied on Commons, and has not been deleted. There's a different Commons photo of Jamie with the same name. The bot tagged it, but hasn't deleted it. Could you get rid of the duplicate Wikipedia file? Thanks so much. Pre-emptive indefinite semi-protection of John Laws

Hello,

I would like to draw your attention to a case of pre-emptive indefinite semi-protection that I find unjustified.

The protecting admin has been challenged about it. Only after the issue was reported to WP:RUP did the admin come up with something resembling an explanation, which was accepted by the investigating admin. The justification was in my opinion extremely flimsly: "there has been in the last varying degrees of speculation in tabloid press and elsewhere".

As you may remember, pre-emptive semi-protections were recently rejected (scroll down) due to an evident lack of consensus. Not only that, but this justification falls even short of that proposal, since it's not clear to me how unreferenced "speculation in tabloid press and elsewhere" is a "high-profile event that has a history of drawing vandalism".

I would appreciate your views on the matter on the protecting admin's talk page. Thank you. 114.148.236.155 (talk) 18:26, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

I have to agree with SoWhy's reasoning. I agree that the protection is without merit, but you can't argue against Casliber's actions based on policy then canvass to try and reinforce your point, which is also against policy. I'd recommend opening a discussion on the administrator's noticeboard. Regards, Resolute 19:46, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
My apologies, I was not aware that WP:CANVASSing was frowned upon. Thank you for informing me.
I have followed your suggestion and opened a discussion at WP:AN#Pre-emptive indefinite semi-protection of John Laws. 123.225.192.66 (talk) 21:55, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

FYI

You recently participated in a discussion here. This issue has been raised again here, where you may wish to comment. Best regards, –xenotalk 15:26, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Terry Fox

The article Terry Fox you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Terry Fox for things which need to be addressed. Nikkimaria (talk) 20:11, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Okay, looks good. I've listed it under "Historical figures - other", but it could fit into a few other categories, so if you feel like moving it, feel free. Congrats! Nikkimaria (talk) 15:25, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
