Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, YowieWorld. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. DlohCierekim 00:23, 24 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Yamia - I apologize, I meant that I am not being paid to change any information on Wikipedia. I work for Yowie so of course I am being paid. But not to change any information on Wikipedia. I changed it of my own accord, I was not being asked to do it. I hope this clarifies the situation.

{{db-u1|I am being bullied by Wikipedia editors who don't want to help me at all. I have made no contributions so I would like to be removed permanently please. Thank you.= }}

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, If you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. I am not being paid or anything like that. I understand why I was blocked. I assure Wikipedia I am trying to correct the information on the Yowie page which is super outdated and does not help people know what Yowie is doing today in the United States and Australia. I used the username "YowieWorld" on purpose to be super transparent, not to be underhanded in any way. I made sure to add real support sources for the information that was already there, removed information that was wrong and any new, helpful info I added I tried to add as many citations/references as possible for people to be able to learn about it. There wasn't even a picture of what this is which I took myself on my iPhone XSPlus and uploaded. Adding accurate information about a company must be allowed somehow because all kinds of pages have a lot more information like for example I just looked at the page for "The Hershey Company" and they have loads of pictures, a website, very professional looking information so somebody who knows the company must have added that information I think. How do you do that? Thank you very much. If you unblock me I will research the proper way to get accurate information added the same way that pages like "The Hershey Company" have and I am more than happy to have my username changed to something generic.YowieWorld (talk) 01:14, 24 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You have not explained your relationship with yowieworld and have not specifically addressed your perceived violations of WP:COI. Additionally, your additions were inappropriately promotional. Yamla (talk) 12:09, 24 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I am not being paid or anything like that. I understand why I was blocked. I assure Wikipedia I am trying to correct the information on the Yowie page which is super outdated and does not help people know what Yowie is doing today in the United States and Australia. I just started working for Yowie - I work in marketing for the company Yowie North America, Inc. - and wanted to correct the page and unfortunately the wording I used must have been promotional in nature although that was certainly not my intention. I made sure to add real support sources for the information that was already there, removed information that was wrong and any new, helpful info I added I tried to add as many citations/references as possible for people to be able to learn about it. There wasn't a picture of what this is which I took myself on my iPhone XSPlus and uploaded. If I am unblocked I will make sure the language I use is not promotional or reflective of any conflict of interest whatsoever. Unfortunately that was my first time trying to contribute to Wikipedia and now I know how to do it the right way. Thank you for the intervention. I understand completely why this is so important and I commit to making sure I only make edits that are in line with how you are supposed to do things on Wikipedia. I have already had my username changed correctly.Pinkpoodle3 (talk) 03:54, 28 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Got it. I understood I was being asked to correct the original submission with the information I did not add that was being asked for which I tried to do: You have not explained your relationship with yowieworld and have not specifically addressed your perceived violations. Those were the exact things I added. Thank you. Pinkpoodle3 (talk) 17:39, 28 April 2019 (UTC):[reply]
"I am not being paid or anything like that." ""I just started working for Yowie - I work in marketing for the company Yowie North America, Inc." Which of those two statements is correct, and which one is false? Are you really expecting us to believe that you work for Yowie and they don't pay you?!?!? That beggers belief. And in any case, it's not relevant. You work for Yowie, therefore you have a conflict of interest. Given your violations of WP:COI and WP:PROMO, you won't be unblocked to write about Yowie. --Yamla (talk) 23:07, 28 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hello Yamia. I made the accurate corrections on Yowie of my own volition, I was not paid to make them. That is exactly what I meant. I work for Yowie so of course they pay me, but nobody at Yowie asked me to make corrections on Wikipedia. I feel that you are being very belligerent toward me unnecessarily when I am only genuinely trying to help correct information on Wikipedia so that people have accurate information which is essential and in the true spirit of wikipedia of which I am a very big fan. It bothered me that people were getting false information on a resource that is supposed to be very reliable so I took it upon myself personally to try and fix it. I obviously messed that up colossally and did not know how to do this the right way for which I deeply apologize. I am not trying to break any rules at all and I hope that you believe that I had the best of intentions. Otherwise I would not be trying so hard to fix my wrongs. May I please be unblocked for making corrections other than for Yowie or is that not possible? That way I hope to learn how to make edits within the Wikipedia community in the right way with no conflict of interest or promotional language. I realize I did this to myself by not understanding how to properly make corrections and I will commit to learning how to do it right. Thank you very much Yamia, Pinkpoodle3 (talk) 05:57, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

(from [1]) Quod erat demonstrandum. This is not just about breaking the rules, this is about a fundamental misunderstanding of the purpose of this website. MER-C 16:29, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You are obviously not interested in helping me learn and only bullying me when I already admitted I didn't know what I was doing, that I was very sorry and completely willing to learn the right way to do things. Should I have learned before I tried to make edits, yes, absolutely. I was wrong and admitted it and instead of giving me a second chance to learn to do thing properly I am only being bullied.
