[edit]Want me to archive your talk page for you? Jayy008 (talk) 23:14, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
- I'll do it. But I want you to learn! Basically all you do is create the page. Then create a link to it on this page. At the top of the next archive copy and paste what's on the top of the first archive but change the numbers around. Jayy008 (talk) 18:28, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
Re:BPI
[edit]We learn something new everyday :). Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I re-calculated all artists UK certified-sales that I had so far gone over including Mariah Carey's, and her BPI certified-singles are at 1,000,000 and her certified-albums are at 5,360,000, I think that's a little bit different than what I had posted on your talk-page previously. Cheers.--Harout72 (talk) 04:05, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
re:Music Box (album)
[edit]An extra column, right? See if that's what you were trying to do.--Harout72 (talk) 18:34, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
- Wait, you want to post the sales figure for Music Box? But those are the singles from the Music Box. I don't follow you. Besides the sales figures of the singles, you want to have the sales of Music Box in each column repeatedly?--Harout72 (talk) 18:47, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
Oh, you mean a separate table? You can create on additional column within the table of the certification and post the sales figures there, will that work?--Harout72 (talk) 18:49, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
- Well, you can have it in the same box as the certifications and state at the top the additional column Sales Based on Actual Sales and/or Certifications. So, whatever market's sales you don't have, you can post the figure the certification-level itself represents, for example UK: Platinum -->300,000 (Certified Sales). --Harout72 (talk) 18:58, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
Sure I can try and construct a separate table, but then the Certification-award-level of US Platinum albums has never been changed, it has always been 1,000,000 for Platinums and 500,000 for Gold, it's the level of the Singles-certification that was 2,000,000 for Platinum and 1,000,000 for Gold before 1989.--Harout72 (talk) 20:49, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
- See if that's what you wanted Peter.--Harout72 (talk) 21:15, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
You bet. After you're done, we'll try to get the columns closer to each other with less gap in between, I'm working on trying to find out how we can make that work.--Harout72 (talk) 21:24, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
RE: Audio files
[edit]Hi peter, Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I was looking through my music collection and realised that I don't own the album on CD or in my digital collection. The best way to create them is using Audacity. If you have the album visit the audacity page on wikipedia and you can download it legally for free. Wikipedia:Manual of Style (music samples) has a good guide to using audio samples. Basically you open the song you want to create a sample of in Audacity. Select the bit you want (click and drag to highlight) then CUT that bit. Then select all and delete. Then paste your sample. Ensure that it fits the correct size restrictions. Then upload to wikipedia using Special:Upload. Normal rules for lisensing etc apply. Make sure when you come to save the snippet in Audacity you click 'Export as Ogg Vorbis). Etc. However you do have more pressing issues regarding the album which should be addressed. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 (talk2me) 23:07, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
hello there
[edit]hello,,, we have not gotten along in the past but i think your doing great with the Mariah Carey albums discography ,,,i see its up for FA ...I have asked for a bit of help to make sure it will pass...i will support it after Discographer looks at it (as hes the expert in this field) see User talk:Discographer#yo! for what exactly i asked him...Again great job!! Moxy (talk) 00:25, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Peter, you've done a really good job with this. I'd like to suggest one thing, however, and that is to keep US or U.S. the same throughout the article. Either way is okay, as this is the only (main) issue needing fixed. When this is taken care of, you have my support on this. Best, --Discographer (talk) 07:08, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- If you're overhauling the article; I'd say add the Memoirs box-set. The one that comes with Vinyl and Lithographs. Jayy008 (talk) 13:00, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- Why are the singles in the infobox on Mariah Carey (album) in italic? Jayy008 (talk) 22:41, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
- That's so weird :S. I'm going to investigate LOL. I'm 50/50, it's got strong competition. I think it'll go in at #7 with sales of 100,000. But maybe I'm being too harsh lol. I'm excited to hear what she does though. Even Perez is excited, so that is SAYING SOMETHING, makes me more excited. I want a new studio though, Emancipation style so she gets success. [edit]Hi. The messages I left for Jayy008, on his talk page, were simply in reply to a message he'd left me. I was referring to a few articles that he and other editors have worked on. - Ps, I've looked at it and it's good. There are a couple of things I wanna say. Why are the UK sales moved further to the right than the certs? Also can you add some negative reception too, before someone makes another thing about you *yawn* Jayy008 (talk) 16:25, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
- Robert Christgau is a good one, he rarely has anything nice to say about her. Rainbow and her debut are the only positive from him. Jayy008 (talk) 16:26, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
- That's a good idea, I'd say because the column is called certs it wouldn't get passed but MC has the same? And cool. Give me a message when it's done. PS. You're welcome, it's so annoying, I don't see the need to be "INFLATED" in capitals like it changes anything, it's just rude. And Max thought him reading something some time ago would be enough to get you blocked or something? And ha, I agree, I hope she does, he obviously is getting bored! re:The Emancipation of Mimi (Canadian certifications)
[edit]Hi Peter, how's everything? Well, with regards to the archived certifications of December 2007 (here), there seems to be some sort of an anomaly with that month because it simply won't open when you click on it. However, prior to CRIA's database going under construction, I had gone over Carey's certifications and I have 2x Platinum (200,000) for The Emancipation of Mimi as well, and I have retrieved that directly from the certification-database, not from the month to month certification-archives. So, at the moment we should keep it on 2x Platinum as 3x Platinum is not verifiable. We'll double check again as soon as the CRIA's certification-database is back online. Later.--Harout72 (talk) 01:11, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I know what you mean, I came across the discussions on certifications, I hope I'd seen the sourced book so I could comment on there, I hope my actions don't create additional frustration for you, I am simply trying to keep the certifications verifiable. Oh, I forgot to state earlier that I can't open that link you have left for me, but it is probably not a good idea to rely on an e-mail when CRIA does offer a database (although not available at the moment). If you don't mind uploading it again on MediaFire perhaps(here), as that may be more accessible, I'm not sure why it doesn't take me directly to the attachment you have received when I click on it.--Harout72 (talk) 01:45, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
Sure go ahead and e-mail it to me at my e-mail that I have provided here for wikipedia. But again, we should really not use that as a source to support certifications, but I'll be more than glad to upload it for you on MediaFire.--Harout72 (talk) 01:58, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- Well, once you're on my talk-page, on the left side of the page under Toolbox you should see E-mail this user, just click on that. But you can't attach any documents through there, is it something to copy and paste or do you have an attachment as well?--Harout72 (talk) 02:07, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
Interesting stuff, let me upload it on MediaFire. I wish all associations were as responsive as CRIA, I can't get a single reply from ARIA.--Harout72 (talk) 02:22, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- Here it is Peter [1]. By the way, is it Peter or Nosson :)? Well, I contact this associations mainly to get their changes in Certification-award-levels that have been taking place throughout the last decade, and CRIA does have the exact date of the change posted on their web site. I wish every association did have their levels posted for every period.--Harout72 (talk) 02:38, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
I just compared all the certifications on that to what I had retrieved from CRIA's database and every single one with an exception of the Triple Platinum for The Emancipation of Mimi matches, I had to correct mine as it seems like they may have failed to post the highest (third platinum) in their database. It may be there when their database is back online. I personally would wait out for the database, but if you want to temporarily support the triple platinum for The Emancipation of Mimi with this, it may be OK for some editors, but others may get skeptical and assume that it's nothing official. It's up to you, really. By the way, is it OK to call you with your real name or you don't want it disclosed on here? --Harout72 (talk) 03:06, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- Well, it does look official to those who're not too skeptical, but with all the discussions taking place at the moment, you'd probably want to hold off on using it. I have uploaded two documents of this kind that I received from the associations and I have provided them as sources to support the changes in certification-award-levels at List of best-selling music artists (at footnotes). But then, they are not to support anything like Platinum-certification-awards, so far I haven't seen anybody complain, but I'm not sure if it'll go that smoothly for Platinum-awards. And yeah, I don't mind you calling me Harout as it's my real name :). --Harout72 (talk) 03:26, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

re:Japanese Sales
[edit]Nathan, please man, I think we've covered this before, haven't we:)? See this edit of mine on your talk-page. OK let me explain again. So RIAJ has two databases, the one that posts those records that sell 1 million units are here, and that database starts from 1989 and covers all 1 million sellers released from 1989 onwards. And the other database is the Gold/Platinum certification-database which is this here, and RIAJ posts those records on there, which have achieved Gold or Platinum certification-award-levels and also those records which have surpassed 1 million mark, but that database starts from July 2003, therefore, we don't have the luxury of seeing Carey's earlier records which have sold more than 1 million units. And that's the database where you see Celine Dion's 2 million seller. I hope you see what's going on now :).--Harout72 (talk) 03:58, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
- Oh I forgot to point out above that I never did actually say that RIAJ doesn't issue Multi-million for foreign artists, I said (and these are my actual words) But let me assure you, that I have gone over each month's posting and neither Carey nor any other non-Japanese artists are amongst those that have sold over 1 million, but again it is from July 2003 until now. I must have missed that month for some inexplicable reason. But I won't be surprised if I went over it again month to month and found out that that's the only Milti-million foreign record having surpassed 1 million mark between July 2003 and now.--Harout72 (talk) 04:12, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
re: Question
[edit]Yeah, Nathan it definitely is posted by some registered editor, I have personally come across that number of times. I would not recommend it be used anywhere in wikipedia.--Harout72 (talk) 06:19, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
ARIA
[edit]Good for you, it's almost like hitting the jackpot :). What kind of information did you contact them about?--Harout72 (talk) 04:47, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
- Let me guess, certification-awards for Carey? :) Anything official looking?--Harout72 (talk) 04:51, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
I'd like to take a look at it, perhaps it would be better to use something directly from ARIA to support Carey's earlier Australian certifications, rather than the offline book that has been creating all the unnecessary tension.--Harout72 (talk) 05:06, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
- ARIA's certifications are very interesting and quite detailed. Too bad it's not in PDF, I could print it out and scan and save as a PDF document, but I'm sure we'll lose quality that way, I may try a page or two and see if it's clear enough for us to use them maybe as a secondary source for albums like Music Box to support 11x Platinum.--Harout72 (talk) 00:06, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
FL Nomination
[edit]Ive left comments on your FL nomination of Mariah Carey. Simples issues, let me know when they are corrected and i will change my vote. Have a nice day :) - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 21:41, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hi L-l-CLK-l-l, so I'm writing to you here as you've asked; I hope you see this. So thanks for your comments, but I have a few questions. So the "Overlinking," I really don't see it, only like by the album names in the lead and well as the list. That's about it, and thats what i see in all discographies. Next, the issue of reference name I get, and will fix it, thanks. Lastly, regarding the small text in the refs, hmmm, I really don't know why its like that, and did notice it though. If you tell me what to change to fix it I'll gladly do it. Thanks! :)--PeterGriffin • Talk 00:58, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- Let me explain more. Take a look at refs ; Mariah_Carey_albums_discography#cite_ref-77 + Mariah_Carey_albums_discography#cite_note-65 + Mariah_Carey_albums_discography#cite_note-aria98-54 (theres more but you get the point.) They all link to Australian Recording Industry Association, only one out of all the refs should link. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 03:17, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- This is what i would do, start with ref one which links to "Recording Industry Association of America" and check if any other ""Recording Industry Association of America" are linked in the refs, and remove them. Then go to two and so on and so on. Make sense? - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 03:18, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- Perfect, its all fixed. I removed all the extra hyper-links as you asked. I am going to answer to your post on the FLC as well. :). Let me know if there is anything else you find!--PeterGriffin • Talk 03:50, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
Jennifer Lopez
[edit]To claim that Rolling Stone is wrong to say Jennifer Lopez has amassed more than 50 million records you need to have something substantial. To just throw some figures in an edit summary and change to reuters source is not acceptable. Both sources are credible and therefore you need to bring up the discussion at Talk:Jennifer Lopez because the change you're trying to make is contentious/controversial. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 22:52, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
- We've already discussed this before Peter. Certifications don't count for everything mainly because there are countries that don;t keep detailed certifcation records and secondly certifications are awarded differently. An artist/record label has to apply for certificates, they aint awarded automatically. And secondly in some countries certificates are awarded on shipments not sales. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 22:56, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
- Personally I'm not all that bothered Peter so long as you're sure you have a collection of reliable sources to add the article then I'm happy. I didn't mean to upset you, rather I was playing devils advocate. It's one of my new tactics to try and get people to cross reference and check things before they add them to articles. Like you said, if there are multiple reliable sources claiming much lower then it makes sense. 50 million recordings (albums and singles) is probably what rolling stone meant though still its quite a large number for an artist who frequently misses the top
ten, twentyforty. And in fact someone who has a record of missing the top 100. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 23:09, 30 August 2010 (UTC)- Peter I didn't accuse you of sock puppetry. Legolas raised the question that AlastorMoody's editing style and emergence at the time of the Mariah Carey (album) GA was suspicious. He merely asked me if it was too much of a coincidence and to be fair to him on paper it did look weird that a relatively new account could know so much about GA and wiki policies. But then oversight of Alastor's comments and the use of his account to edit other articles led me to believe that there was no link. I cant speak for Legolas but I certainly didnt come to the assumption that you and Alastor Moody are one in the same. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 16:21, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
- It would have been better if you asked me why I had changed my mind rather than assume that I did it just because of the consensus or for some other silly reason.
We all get things wrong and the community should embrace each other when making corrections. You seem to forget that people have been patient with you on the whole Mariah Carey thing. In future please criticise the edits not the editor. Stop assuming that everyone is out to get you, or make you look daft. You have your passion in editing MC articles and that's brilliant continue. As I said in the community reassessment of Mariah Carey (album) you're editing is generally good you just need to look at things objectively. Lets just call it a day here. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 16:28, 31 August 2010 (UTC) - I struck some of the comments because I realised I was being harsh sorry. You're a good editor and I don't want to fall out. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 16:29, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Re:List of best-selling music artists
[edit]I'm good Nathan:), that's too bad that its' not available in PDF. Well, I went ahead and scanned and saved them all in PDF, but my printer is not brand new, so, it's not all that clear, and because there are to many pages it takes a minute or two to open up. Anyways, here it is uploaded on MediaFire. With regards to ABBA and Queen for example, well, we don't even have half of Japan's complete certifications because both those bands have begun in early 70s and we have only RIAJ's 1 Million Seller database from 1989 onwards. And Germany and Canada, both have established certification-schemes in 1975, so they have not captured the earlier records of neither ABBA nor Queen, see the footnotes here I've prepared for the years of certification-establishments. Surely, however, the sales-figures available for ABBA and Queen are overblown. In my opinion, ABBA have sold some 150 million records worldwide and Queen have sold pretty much the same or perhaps a little more. But believe me, it's not worth downgrading them and having ABBA and Queen fans begin endless unproductive deputes. To be honest with you, the same goes to The Beatles, Elvis Presley, and of course to Michale Jackson, all their figures are overblown. The Beatles may have sold some 600 million records worldwide, and Presley some 400-500 million, but Jackson, probably has not even sold as much as Madonna has, but his record company has tried hard to keep him at the top by applying various marketing tools including constant inflations in sales figures.--Harout72 (talk) 01:25, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, we can include anything that's reliable.--Harout72 (talk) 01:40, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
That won't work as it states ABBA sold some 100 million records with hits such as "Waterloo," "Dancing Queen" and "Knowing Me, Knowing You" before disbanding in 1982. The day we insert that figure based on some four songs and selling records up to 1982 will open doors for huge arguments. We need something that doesn't get specific with timeframes or number of hits/albums. Because ABBA have continued to sell a lot of records after disbanding.--Harout72 (talk) 02:38, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Mariah Carey discographies
[edit]I'm afraid there isn't an official place to argue it out (at least not more official than the featured list review). Your argument relative to WP:SIZE is a strong one. Re: FLC
[edit]Sorry Peter I'm not being ignorant, my delayed response is a well-calculated decision LOL. Its standard procedure to recommend changes and then hold fire to reasses the article before offering support/opposition. That's what I'm doing. Part of the reason for this is me wanting to wait to see what other users say but also so that I can check the referencing and also see how it compares to other FLs. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 17:55, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

[edit]"clearly a need for it"? i honestly don't see why a statement like that is needed. Just because "certifications are from old criterion", doesn't change the certification. Ga Be 19 03:04, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
- I guess I can see where your coming from, but IMO it still makes no sense to have a statement like that. It just seems like a way to try to boost certifications. Just because numbers for certifications have changed over the years, doesn't change the certification. Ga Be 19 06:28, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

[edit]You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Mariah Carey. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. If the edit warring continues, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Please be careful you do not run afoul of the three revert rule with yours and User:Baratayuda's reverts. Please take this to the article's talk page before either of you cross that limit and attract attention and possibly a block. ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CONTRIBS 05:29, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- Please remember not to leave edit summaries (or other comments) to another editor like "now stop being annoying and wait." - and please, stop the edit war before someone brings you both to 3RR. You both have been contributing for quite some time, and this edit isn't worth a block for either of you. Best, ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CONTRIBS 05:32, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- Any time Nathan. I tried getting the notifications out to both of you before either of you hit that magic #3, but I seem to have missed by a few seconds. Hopefully, if you both lay low on the reverts on that page for a bit, it will go unnoticed and you two can come to an agreement on the talk page. Best, ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CONTRIBS 05:36, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- LoL! True! One away :-) Have a good night and happy editing (it's obviously my bed time if I cant count to four anymore)! Best, ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CONTRIBS 05:41, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

trying to sabotage the page..??? You have been credited for turning Mariah Carey into a fancruft encyclopedia. I just want consensus before you add the fan-made title such "Queen of Pop"! Baratayuda (talk) 05:47, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Misc.
[edit]Hi Peter, How are you? I just wanted to mention two things. First of all I wanted to say sorry I can't help with the sound sample of the MC albums because I appear not to have any of the MC albums apart from Memoirs. I bet I left them on my old PC and never copied them over. =(
Also thank you for taking up the GA review for Louboutins. If you could drop me a note of when you're done and I'll take a look at the recommendations (if any) as required. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 14:09, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
- Haha yeah I only got Memoirs for "IWTKWLI" LOL! For me "Rose Colored Glasses" will always be a number-one single =). No problems. I look forward to working with you on the review. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 14:19, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
Katy Perry album cover debate

Hello
[edit]Just happened to stumble upon the review page for Mariah Carey Singles. Lemme explain the things you didnt under stand.
- The infobox: "Singles", "Promotional singles" returns a dead link, same for "Other appearance"
- What This means is, when you click "Singles, Promotional singles and Other appearances" there a little ↙. That should link to the section, see Kesha discography for how to do it.
- "Coming to the citations: I don't understand why are online sources italicized and why are printed media not in italics"
- Look at ref Mariah_Carey_singles_discography#cite_ref-Billboard_Hot_100_52-0 for example, Billboard should be in italics. Ref Mariah_Carey_singles_discography#cite_note-aus-13 should NOT be in italics. Again, see Kesha discography for what to put in italics and what not to, reffing in generally my strong point in editing.
- "Use en-dash in the references please and in the artile body, wherever applicable."
- Okay, ref Mariah_Carey_singles_discography#cite_ref-riaa_22-0 uses simple "-"dash. You need to use; " – " en-dash (just copy and paste it over the regular dash).
Okay, every ref needs to be re-looked at, again look at Kesha discography for proper "work=" and "publisher=" fields and where to put italics and where not to. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 07:14, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
Merry Christmas II You
[edit]Hey, have you overhauled any MC albums recently? I'm looking forward to seeing all the finished results. I'm also looking forward to the new Christmas album now despite saying before I kind of wasn't. But judging by what I'm reading about it and the promo etc, it should be good. Let's hope it's marketed correctly! Jayy008 (talk) 14:43, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
- WOW, Butterfly is definitely your best work; I love it! I would offer to read through, but I'm really not good at things like that. I also didn't know about a Movie for Merry Christmas? I think it could be good. Jayy008 (talk) 16:07, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
- That would be fun. Oh yes, Rainbow is a hard job!! But you did Butterfly and that was harder so I can't wait to see :D. Jayy008 (talk) 14:35, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi
[edit]I'm working right now on Celine's article (adding sales to table). I will look at your changes today. If things are fixed, I will gladly support Mariah article. I'm still waiting for your comment. All the albums you have mentioned are in the lead section. Max24 (talk) 18:02, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
Romanza
[edit]Sorry, because it was written half a million and not 500,000, I didn't see the sales in Argentina correctly, but after reading it again, I noticed you were right.
The other thing is, the album did sell almost 20 million albums, 16 million of whcih were in 1997 alone. And all the sales date from that time mostly so obviously each one is more now, over 10 years later.--Ahmad123987 (talk) 04:31, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
Re:Hey
[edit]Hi Nathan, I'm pretty good thanks, how's the editing going? :) That is an official yearly report by ARIA and it definitely can be used to support Australia's certifications for Music Box.--Harout72 (talk) 15:49, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- I only managed to go over the report now, where exactly are you looking to see the certifications for "Music Box"?--Harout72 (talk) 16:14, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
Got it. Yes, you should not have any problems using that.--Harout72 (talk) 18:41, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- Now I see it, but I think, I will be inserting the Japanese available positions and remove the US R&B peaks. Because Japan has the second largest market in the world and RIAJ' certifications are important to have. I could care less for small markets like Russia for example :).--Harout72 (talk) 19:19, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
Showing certs for unlisted countries
[edit]Hi, I saw your edits to Eminem discography where you tossed out a whole bunch of referenced certs. Your explanation was "Removing extra certifications. In an FL article, you should only list certifications from the charts listed" and that "According to FL rules, only certifications that the country is listed in the table should be mentioned." Since I've never tried to nominate anything for good or featured status, I'm somewhat clueless (and frankly uninterested) about the process, but the guidelines used keep coming up as de facto rules for articles and lists. So I have to ask you: where do the FL rules you cite say that? All I could find was WP:Featured list criteria, which is a very short page that hardly says anything worthwhile (IMO) and nothing specifically about music articles, charts, or certifications (AFAICT). Where are you looking? Thanks and regards, — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 22:39, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- Hi John, so I'm writing to you here as I am guessing you prefer (to keep it on one page).
- Anyways, so 3 different editors told me that as I went through the different processes. I will show you them. Okay, so firstly, when I tried to add additional certifications to Madonna singles discography, Legolas told me not to because of WIKI:UNDUE. The discussion took place here around a month or so ago. Next, on my Mariah Carey singles discography FLC, Lil-Unique told me somthing similar, but did not give me a source for his reason or quote. The discussion took place here under his "resolved comments". Lastly, now during my pending nomination for Mariah Carey albums discography (your opinion and comments would be greatly appreciated ) Max24 told me again that certifications should only be mentioned on countries in the table, the comment took place here. So I can't tell you exactly what you want to know, but that is why I did it. I will ask Legolas and Unique if there is a specific reason, if not I'll re-add them to alot of article that were unfortunately removed. Anyways, hope this clears it up for you! :)--PeterGriffin • Talk2Me 23:03, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- IM am going to quote what I was told with Kelly Rowland discography. in the featured singles table you've included the certs for austria, belgium and norway but those 3 countries arent mentioned anywhere else in the article so the certs shouldn't be in the table. apparently the rational is that if the charts are not mentioned anywhere else in the discography then the use of that countries certificates are incorrect because it suggests that the editing user has chosen the countries in the table purely because of chart position and inputted certs where they are high but not spoken about their relevancy. I'm not sure I agree with it personally but it hindered my FL so I assumed it was FL policy. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 01:54, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- Well, thing is I agree with you. I find that idea BS. There is no logical reason to not include every available certification and more. The discography providing more info is more important than the idea. And thing is, if that person hindered your FLC because of it, then you tragically stomped mine for the same reason. Anyway, I would like to put either a start or end to this idea/rule, so I'll just wait for Legolas, who seems to be the only other editor who feels this way.--PeterGriffin • Talk2Me 02:22, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- First of all, discographys are not songographys or albumographies. Our goal is to give the overview of an artist's commercial reception in the discography, and not stretch it out by adding components that are somehow partially linked. For eg, if you add Austrian certifiation, and Austria is not present in the table, you are implying that the artist was not commercially viable in Austria, yet was shipped enough to be certified, which contradicts the previous. Hence it is usual to list the certifications of the major markets, or if insisted, the certifications of the countries listed in the table, with the artist's major markets at the top. — Legolas (talk2me) 05:30, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks, Nathan, fellows. It sounds like these FL rules aren't really written down anywhere, they're just the way you all do it, mostly because somebody told you your articles wouldn't pass GA/FL/etc. if you did things otherwise. So you became socialized to knowing the "rules", even though they're (apparently) not documented anywhere. Well, I'm glad to know I'm at least not crazy (well, you know) or blind because I couldn't find them.
- I don't usually figure Austria's column was left out because the artist didn't do well there (even though their second album went platinum), but that it didn't make the cut for the 10-chart limit. My natural inclination is to include/not delete certs (that are sourced, natch) regardless of what charts are in the table. If I'm going to start deleting and reverting folks, I'd like to have some page I can point to for the rationale.
- My personal preference, BTW, is to list the certs purely alphabetically, mostly because that's how I see it done the vast majority of the time (I get sozialized, too). Is there some written rule about "the artist's major markets" at the top? Or just custom? Or just Legolas? — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 07:32, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Re:Tina Turner
[edit]Sure, Nathan, just let me have some time to go over her certified sales as I've never bothered to analyze Turner's sales. But her sources are quite reliable. --Harout72 (talk) 22:50, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
- Oh I see, well both of those sources are unreliable and both state 180 million not 200 million. I have changed it to 180 million. As for Tina's certifications, I'm almost done, I don't have Canada's nor Australia's certifications because Canada's database seems to be gone forever and Australia's database starts from 1997. And so far I have some 32,000,000 from all the databases. That figure would not be a lot different even if we had all the certifications for all the territories. Anyways, late in this afternoon I will post the certifications at the talk-page of "List of Best-selling music artists" to make it official and from then on, if we can locate sources that claim lower figures than 180 million, we should implement those as Tina has not sold more than 100 million records it seems.--Harout72 (talk) 15:27, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
I have posted the certifications, feel free to comment on there. Also, did Max give you the source from which he's getting all the earlier Japanese figures for Carey, is it anything reliable (Oricon maybe)?--Harout72 (talk) 22:15, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, too bad that he hasn't given you the source to where he's getting all those figures, I verified at least 10 of his given figures through Oricon and they perfectly matched. And yes, you are probably right about Carey having sold over 20 million records in Japan alone. As for Tina Turner, I don't want to remove her from the list as she is considered one of the Divas, I hope we can locate a figure that somehow correlates with her certifications.--Harout72 (talk) 05:20, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
Celine Dion albums discography
[edit]Hi. Why have you changed the size of compilations table? The size was the same as all the other tables. Now it doesn't look good in copmparision with other tables and it's definitely too short. The size 150 is used in other discographies, including Mariah. Please, revert your own edit.-- Max24 (talk) 10:24, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, in 1997, at the French broadcast 'Taratata', Céline sang "Everything I do (I do it for you)" in duet with Bryan Adams. They also performed it on December 31, 1999 at the concert 'La dernière de Céline' at the Molson Center in Montréal, Quebec.-- Max24 (talk) 20:22, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

RE
[edit]Hi, unfortunatelly we can't use it in Wikipedia as a source. All these informations come from Oricon/Riaj member who shared it. It's the same as from time to time US SoundScan sales leaks. I must tell you about Japan that Mariah sold there a lot, and Celine is second. And they are both way ahead of all the others international acts. There isn't something like Billboard sales for Japan. Billboard was writing an article about Carey and they asked Sony Music about sales and wrote what they were told. Oricon is special because it counts sales only when album is charting. Let's say that an ablum was charting in 1995 for 6 months and has sold 500,000 copies. And in 1998 it re-entered for one week selling 5,000 copies. So, Oricon will show it sales as 505,000 copies. Unlike SoundScan sales in the US, it doesn't show us how many copies were sold when album/single wasn't charting. I don't know any other sources for Japanese sales.
- I have seen Celine in concert in 2008 in Poland. It was my first time, I went there with my boyfriend who doesn't like Celine :). I have never seen Mariah live, only on DVD (I've got her DVD's too). :) Celine's latest DVD from Taking Chances Tour is great.
- I don't know sources we can use here (except for one, but it's from March 2000). From official info I can tell you that:
In November 1999, Sony Music Japan gave the worldwide sales:
Mariah Carey - 12 million
Emotions - 8 million
MTV Unplugged - 7 million
Music Box - 24 million
Merry Christmas - 11 million
Daydream - 19 million
Butterfly - 10 million
#1's - 11 million
In March 2000, Canoe stated that Rainbow sold 7 million.source
In July 2002, Sony China and Universal Korea stated that Music Box sold 25 million.
In July 2003, Universal France said that Charmbracelet sold 3 million.
But I can't find these sources online.
Update:"Oh Santa" just premiered and I like it :)

Oh Santa!
[edit]I totally agree. I absolutely love the song, very, very unexpected. Obviously not as good as "All I Want..." but it will go down as a classic hopefully :) Jayy008 (talk) 16:03, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- Definitely. I has a good chance at #1 on the Hot 100. Either way it'll be #1 on Pop Songs, Holiday Songs, Ringtones and Radio Songs. :) Jayy008 (talk) 20:08, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- Holiday albums generally aren't. Holiday songs are quite popular, generally Mariah, George Michael and The Pogues re-enter every year. Mariah, the highest, of course, lol. Jayy008 (talk) 20:33, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- Is she Susan Boyle released on the same day as Mariah or within a couple of weeks? That could be huge problem. Boyle is huge here in the UK. And ha, Simon does that a lot, Leona is still very big in the UK, though. Simon usually just moved on to promoting his newest addition the most. Jayy008 (talk) 20:56, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- I don't much care for Boyle, either. Hopefully MC will get the #1 album still. You know what, I was looking yesterday at Japan and realised she hasn't had a hit album there since the 90's. I really, really hope they'll give her another shop and make this album a success! Jayy008 (talk) 22:43, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- PS. On a side note, in the UK we have five broadcast channels that are available for free in all homes. Is The CW available for free in all homes or is only the major four? (ABC, FOX, NBC, CBS) Jayy008 (talk) 23:01, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info. And yeah, a million is asking for a lot considering I don't think an international artist has achieved that since Rainbow did, lol. I'm hoping for half a million ore more. Jayy008 (talk) 13:42, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
Invitation to comment: Formatting changes to WP:DISCOGSTYLE.
[edit]Hello, Nathan. Being a big-time discography guy (working on big-time discogs), I'd like to point you to the discussion about accessibility-related changes coming up, and invite you to take a look and leave a comment.
Quick summary: Over at the Talk page for WP:WikiProject Discographies/style, there's been quite a bit of (at times tedious and technical) discussion about the formatting of discographies. Although WikiProject Discographies/style hopes to be part of the Manual of Style some day, it does not, currently, conform to WP:ACCESS, itself a part of the MoS. This is a problem because articles which conform to the WikiProject Discographies/style ought not be acceptable for promotion to FA or FL status, since they don't conform to the MoS.
After much discussion at Accessibility issues, followed by what was meant to be a conclusion at Time to update, we would be ready to actively address the problem, with discographies eventually being reformatted to appear as currently shown here (already changed from its earlier form). Column order and formatting would be noticeably changed, chart headings would typically be bigger, a few other differences in the coding would be made.
The only hold-up (as far as we know) is lack of wider consensus; I think too few people have participated and I'd like to see more editors register their opinion (be it support or criticism) before we move ahead with a rather significant change. (At the very least, you may consider this fair warning.) Your comment is welcome at Are we ready to apply this updated guideline?. Thanks. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 20:52, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
Huh? (Mariah's Canadian connection)
[edit]Hi, Guy. I'm baffled by one aspect of your series of 38 edits to Mariah Carey singles discography. I didn't check them all individually, and I don't know why you're changing and deleting peaks, but what did catch my eye is the replacement of allmusic for the US Hot 100 charts with the BB page for her Canadian Hot 100 chartings. Is it a mistake, or are you doing something tricky (the BB page is down for me right now, no big deal, so I can't tell for sure what's there). 04:47, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
- Its no mistake, take a look at where the source leads you. I think the title is confusing you.--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 05:42, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Awarded to Nathan, for his dedication to Mimi's album articles and discographies, amidst all the opposes he faces. He is a wonderful example of an evolving editor, other newbies should learn a thing or two from him — Legolas (talk2me) 10:21, 6 October 2010 (UTC) |
- Thanks a lot for the kind words. *Sniff*. Well I was hoping for one thing from you. Can you start reviewing "Telephone" GAC? Its been lying there for a long time. And wow at #1's article. — Legolas (talk2me) 06:25, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- He he you remember when the first GAR of Mariah Carey started? How frustrated you were and angry? It happens to every1. Me too, when the first FAC of "4 Minutes" failed. By the way I love "Oh Santa" and excited for MCIIYou. — Legolas (talk2me) 06:38, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- Lol, kill me?? He he. I can understand, even I had felt the same emotions sometimes. "4 Minutes" was my first article for which I needed 4 paras for the lead, it was that long. I believe you should start working on the Mariah Carey songs articles, especially her 18 #1s. Then you can probably make a Good topic for the 18 articles, coupled with the singles discography, which I'm pretty sure will become FL by then. Hope I will be around to see it. I would also suggest the MC wikiproject which I spoke to you earlier, if you remember.
- As for MCII, I believe the project is going in a proper direction, although I wonder how they are gonna shoot the music video with the pregnancy thing. Probably Mimi would stand behind the snowman to hide the bump. Do you believe she is pregnant? I believe so, and its about time. I guess they are trying to coincide the pregnancy with the album release for maximum promotion. — Legolas (talk2me) 07:57, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- For the song articles, you can always consult Fred Bronson's Billboard Book of No. 1 Singles. Also, you have your work reduced by 1, since "We Belong Together" is already GA. :) If you are not able to find the book, ask User:Frcm1988, he has it and can give you scans of the pages. He is a really helpful editor and my best friend. :) Also, for the MC wikiproject, you can copy the madonna one, and then replace Madonna by Mariah Carey, and likewise create the red links that will be generated. After that, you need to add the wikipeoject tag to all the articles, and ask someone else to do an initial review. I can do it if I come back. As for Mimi, yeah she has gotten bizarrely huge. And I was really scared to hear that she fell down on the stage that day. Where the f*** is Nick? And thank god he is not directing the music video of Oh santa. My only concern for Oh Santa (a wonderful song) is that the unfair comparison it is generating with AIWFCIY. That might hurt its chances on the Hot 100. Can't believe AIWFCIU charted only at 81 on Hot 100. Ugh, at her record company not releasing the physical single. — Legolas (talk2me) 08:17, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, you are right, even I noticed the raspy belting that she did. I am super excited for this era, more so than Memoirs, I was kinda tired of her at that time. Imagine how much of a wonder it will be if she kills Susan Boyle's boring album with MCII? I would die I'm sure. By the way for Mariah's Canadian certifications, you can send a mail to CRIA, they will immediately send you a reply with a detailed pdf doc. As for Madonna, nah, she is too busy directing W.E., which I'm pretty sure is gonna flop. And Lourdes is really beautiful and looks like Madge in her early days. — Legolas (talk2me) 08:54, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

(→)Susan is just so-so-so-so overrated. I hate everything about her. PS, nowadays I have started hating TS also, and her constant whinny songs. I had clearly hoped for a mature artist to emerge from her, but looks like Speak Now will disappoint me. By the way, how excited are you for Rihanna's Loud? I am loving to see dance Rihanna back! — Legolas (talk2me) 09:39, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- Couldn't agree more. Whn Beyonce's "Diva" first came out, I burst out laughing at the overt ghettoness. But I do love and respect her as an artist. I'm kinda tired by Gaga ya know (Surprise, surprise) I think I need a fresh Gaga, to like her again, not the same antics on and on. Yes, MTV VMa's were a delight, but she's too alien to me now. I do believe that a strong backlash is coming for her. — Legolas (talk2me) 10:24, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- I know, she does appear weird now, as if she is going to die tomorrow. I do appreaciate Gaga as a tremendous good artist though, better than all the trashies out there right now. As for Britney, I lost faith in her as an artist after she completely tuned off her voice and resorted to lip-synch. I mean, c'mon which pop star doesnot lip-synch? Even Madonna does. But nobody lips an entire concert! Even Madonna sang a whole song while jumping ropes on the Sticky & Sweet Tour! That's when she was over to me as an artist. Although, I know I will jump and download whenver she releases a new song. My fav Madge song is Like a Prayer and Hung Up. You won't believe it, but my fav MC song is "It's Like That". Love me some ghetto Mimi . Also, I loved the Rainbow era so much. — Legolas (talk2me) 10:50, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- I know you are surprised that I like Rainbow, but for me its not always about the voice. From the beginning of the Rainbow era, I saw Mariah the human being more than the diva appearance she put up always. It made me like her more as I look for humane qualities in an artist, more than their most successful eras. That's why, although Madona's Like a Virgin was the more successful album, I always prefer Like a Prayer. Same with Ray of Light also. Remember, Rainbow era was also the somewhat triggering of her mental deterioration, and her final emancipation to Mimi. That is another of the reasons why I absolutely adore "It's Like That" more over "We Belong Together". You get my point? Lol, you must be thinking I'm old and weird. (I'm 7 years older to ya, he he). — Legolas (talk2me) 11:09, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- I think its wonderful to get married, your time will come soon I'm sure. I tink it makes you more level headed, more calm, and it did teach me to not drag myself in the nitty-gritty issues going on in the Gaga articles. My legacy is intact you can say. Lol. . That's why I let Chase run around now. I will update the reviews that you placed. My review for Merry Christmas is coming soon. — Legolas (talk2me) 06:04, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
- I think you can ask Tbhotch or Frcm to do it. They are pretty good at it. Or you can ask User:ThinkBlue. She is also a wonderful editor and my dear friend. As for the number of GA's, ThinkBlue has beat me long back to it. That's why I am aiming for FAs now :P. Hey did you hear the news of Rihanna slamming Perry, Kesha nad Gaga? Weird huh? — Legolas (talk2me) 07:49, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

GAN reviews
[edit]Hi there, I'm not sure if you're aware, but when you review an article at GAN, you need to amend the nomination template on the article talkpage to say that its "on review" or "on hold". The GA bot then updates the WP:GAN page so that everyone can tell that article is being reviewed. Also there's now no need to edit WP:GAN at all as the bot does it all. We (nominators or reviewers) just edit the talkpage template. Just thought I'd let you know as I was going to start a review on an article only to find you'd already done it! Mariah Carey FAC/Images
[edit]Hi there Tbhothc. So I'm working on the little fixes you pointed out in the article, however there is one thing I'm confused by. When I uploaded those samples, I did exactly what I was told as per the instructions. I don't understand what the problemis, or what I need to do. Care for some help/advice? Thanks :)--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 00:20, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Nathan, well, the problem are not the samples themselves, the problem is the summary/rationale of those sample. For example we usually does not use the cover of an album in other spaces that are not the album itself, the same apply here. Some examples are this sample. Originally it is for exclusive use in the article Already Gone (Kelly Clarkson song), but if you give a good summary of why it should be used in other articles, e.g. Halo (Beyoncé Knowles song), it fill our fair use rules. Another would be File:GwenStefaniCool.ogg, it is originally for the article "Cool", but if you give a fair use rationale it can be used in "Love.Angel.Music.Baby." and Gwen Stefani, without any copyright problem. Merry Christmas
[edit]The article has some sourcing issues in the certifications section, I will eventually get to it, but I'm kinda busy right now so I was just letting you know. Jayy008 (talk) 15:42, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
