Carnival of the Animals

[edit]

Hey, I looked up your question regarding Saint Saens's The Carnival of the Animals. It seems like "People with Long Ears" may have been referring to donkeys, though some sources do think that he was making a political statement. No one knows for sure... Flcelloguy 18:49, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Categorisation

[edit]

Sorry that i have added all the articles to the unresolved category. but it seems that they dont show up in unsolved problems in mathematics if you dont add it to this category. maybe the unsolved template should be used.

The point is that Category:Conjectures is a subcategory of Category:Unsolved problems in mathematics. As Wikipedia:Categorization suggests, you shouldn't put an article in both a subcategory and its parent. Thus, putting those articles in Category:Conjectures suffices — that category doesn't have any other parents either, so the articles' place in the hierarchy is uniquely defined. And they do appear in Category:Conjectures for me... (by the way: you can sign your messages using four tildes: ~~~~)  Pt (T) 09:13, 31 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
One more thing: a pipe (|) doesn't separate a category from its children. In fact it just determines the article's place in the alphabetical list at the category page. For example, if you put a person to [[Category:1985 births|Doe, John]], then it is still put in Category:1985 births and the article's real name (probably John Doe in this example) is still spelled out there, but in the alphabetical list it's not under J (like John), but it is under D (Doe). Therefore it doesn't make much sense to put an article under [[Category:Unsolved problems|Mathematics]] (sorry if it wasn't you who did it) as it would still put the article under Category:Unsolved problems, but list it under M...  Pt (T) 09:25, 31 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Uups sorry about that. But shouldnt it then appear here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Unsolved_problems_in_mathematics too  ? helohe 08:10, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Nope. If I recall the current policy correctly, appearing in Category:Conjectures is enough.  Pt (T) 19:36, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for your great effort to the page enzyme!~ :-D -- Jerry Crimson Mann 14:29, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! Actually the normal LaTeX way to write something onto arrows would be \stackrel, but apparently Wikipedia doesn't support it. AMSTeX gives a yet neater command \overset, but that's not supported either... Also I tried \begin{matrix} bla \\ arrow \\ {} \end{matrix} and even \begin{matrix} {}_bla \\ arrow \\ {} \end{matrix}, but the spacing between the lines in the matrix was unfortunately too big. That's why the hack was necessary.  Pt (T) 15:31, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! There is an Estonia-related article in German, Estonian and Latvian Wikis. It's strange that it hasn't got a translation to English! Could you find any Estonian wikipedian who speaks German and English both well to improve this situtation? --Untifler 19:57, 2 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Siim, I'd looked at your interests, I'd found that you should translate this article to Estonian as I'd translated it to Tatar!

Кстати, начиная с января 2005 я тоже пытаюсь научиться играть на губной гармошке :) --Untifler 20:10, 2 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll probably try that when I have more time.  Pt (T) 18:28, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pt - don't understand why you hid the image box in Edouard Lucas. I can see an image there - see box on right. Was the absence of an image perhaps a temporary problem ? Would you like to restore the image box ? Gandalf61 09:43, August 10, 2005 (UTC)

Oops... It really has reappeared in the meantime! I've reverted the edit by now.  Pt (T) 22:51, 13 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Something really strange is happening here! Image:Elucas_1.png doesn't show the picture again; nevertheless it does allow to click such a link and see the large version of the photo. I really hope the problem is temporary. Anyway, I'll be more careful hiding the missing image boxes in the future.  Pt (T) 09:36, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Aargh, I've finally found the solution! All the problem lay in the Adblock extension of my Firefox that carelessly filtered out all the images containing /ad/ in their URLs. Apparently, as a discussion at commons:Village pump shows, it's also a problem with some firewalls. Good to know.  Pt (T) 18:30, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You added the 'stub' tag. While I agree it is very short article, I do not think it needs enlarging - please read comment on the talk page Talk:OPSI. The problem is for any cause of non-function spleen (not just post-splenectomy that OPSI strictly-speaking applies to) and is fully covered in asplenia. The consequence is a septicaemia infection. Please discuss on the talk page if I'm being too narrow minded on wikipedia style (I recognise that you are more experienced editor than I am). Yours David Ruben 19:09, 17 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

See the answer on the talk page.  Pt (T) 08:59, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting comments on template alteration

[edit]

Hello. I see you are using one or more of the User instruments templates in your Babel box. Inspired by some recent developments, I want to rework all the templates in there (including ones used on user pages), to make them more like the regular Babel templates. However, I thought I should hear from the people this would affect before actually doing it. Please weigh in at User:Ddawson/User instruments.

Hello, have you played Concerto No. 2 from Vivaldi ? or the 1. They are my favorite pieces. Do you know Claude Bolling ? He is a french flautist. AntoineI 19:58, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No, unfortunately I haven't played those concertos. But thanks for the hint :) Looks like I haven't heard of Bolling either... I'll perhaps look for his performances when I have more time.  Pt (T) 21:21, 10 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for notifying me on July 27, 2005 to tag all the images I have uploaded with the appropriate copyright tags. This has now been done. — Wackymacs 17:02, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome.  Pt (T) 08:48, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. Can you translate the text of Template:User et-0 into Estonian for me (if it hasn't been already when you read this)? Thanks Hedley 00:09, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

What about "Kasutaja ei mõista eesti keelt (või mõistab seda tõsiste raskustega)"? It's quite a literal translation and I'm sure there's a better one, but I'm also trying to be consistent with other User et-… templates. In a moment I'll put it into the template too.  Pt (T) 02:03, 30 December 2005 (UTC) (fixed 02:05, 30 December 2005 (UTC))[reply]
Thanks. Er, I would say that in Estonian, but the only word I know is "juustuburger". :p Hedley 02:15, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

'Kasutaja ei oska eesti keelt'? Kas see poleks mitte parem?? Constanz 16:06, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oskamine is the ability to use the language, while mõistmine is the ability to understand it. I think there's a difference. But feel free to reword it if you can (while not changing the meaning; we should still follow the style of other such templates).  Pt (T) 17:44, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Kappa curve

[edit]

You may wish to revisit the Kappa curve article that you started five years ago. At different points in the article's history, there has been confusion amongst the graph and the various equations as to whether they were representing the form with the vertical or horizontal asymptotes. 58.147.52.66 (talk) 04:01, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tervist

[edit]

See pakkumine tuli nüüd küll päris üllatusena!

[edit]

Hi, I've been trying to find somebody here to help me translate this: 50 Krooni, issued by the Esti Pank on 3 May 1929. I used Google to translate it but... as you can see the 5, 10 (1928) and 10 (1937) lead to a dead-end. Could you please help me ? Krenakarore TK 20:22, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
