Ti informo come ho informato altri contributori usuali su it.wiki. Tu sei molto attivo sia nelle voci lombarde che quelle di motori, e sei amministratore, quindi hai un sufficiente impatto medio e una buona trasversalità.--Alexmar983 (talk) 17:39, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Church of Beata Vergine Assunta

[edit]

Hello LukeWiller,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username CAPTAIN MEDUSA and it's nice to meet you :-)

I wanted to let you know that I have tagged an article that you started, Church of Beata Vergine Assunta for deletion, because it is unnecessary and disambiguates only a single page.

If you feel that the page shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|CAPTAIN MEDUSA}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Battle of Legnano

[edit]

Hello
Seeing your extensive contribution to the thread i am more thinking on a restructure and condensing of this aticle. in my opinion it is too broad and too much fringe than the actual topic (the battle) itself. so im thinking of creating a draft and than showing it to you first and if you agree, not agree or even edit additional info. to it, in the next days. in my opinion this specific article should focus only on events in 1176, the battle and the resulting aftermatch, everything else should have its own thread or be in the respective existing threads in order to avoid doublings and repetition over several threads. also i would base the article more on primary sources rather then secondary sources (and no conjecture). i will let you know when it is finished, take a look and decide if its acceptable.
PS.: is there really need for a map with location in the infobox? in light of the info. on location as well as coordinates, it is also not customary in the other related articles.
Greetings

im afraid i disagree with that assessment, the article includes entire passages that do not deal with the topic and are better off in other, still non-existing, articles like 'carcano' 'milan(1162)' and 'alessandria' and if these are not enough then there are further articles such as 'lombard league' 'guelphs and ghibellines' or 'frederick I' -also as an example informations such as the castle of legnano(while interesting and well researched) are utterly useles for this article and better off in the article on 'legnano', dont you think? this article should begin with the failed peace treaty and the renewel in january 1176 of the lombard league, this article also misses out on important information (for exmaple) such as the emperors war (christian of mainz) against the normans (carsoli march 1176) and why these were present in venice 1177 and the lombards not yet obtained a seperate peace in 1183, all that for the aftermath section. this article needs a good look through and a restruction. your contribs. are safed eitherway, so edit them to the coresponding articles if you like or not.
greetings
PS.: a map is therefor then not necessary as the function 'Location' wil suffice in revealing the location along with the given coordinates, also i agree that medieval battles are largely conjecture in seconday literature and that is why this should not be a collection of conjectures from said lit. but an informative article based on the known facts -no matter how brief it might be. also the enire premise of the article is wrong that this was a conflict between the 'north italian municipalities' and the emperor in light of cremona and pavia, also the neglect of northern italy is utterly false in light of three imperial diets and five campaigns.

ofcourse there wont be an edit war, but do consider posting some of the info into the more appropriate threads. again this is more about condensing the article with a clearer and better comprhendable structure smth. like:

Prelude -lombard league and the emperor's fifth campaign -montebello and the renewel of armed conflict

The Battle

Aftermath

Significance
it is not really about changing the article or replacing the content, though the aftermatch section needs more information.
greetings

No problem, except...

[edit]

No problem, indeed, except that I've always managed to screw up any template that comes within a mile. I've sort-of half-done the Brinkmann ref (or at least a Brinkmann ref), but managed to balls it up, so there's bits of template all over the place. I was wondering if you could sort it out for me (it's in the sources section now...). You seem like someone who would do that very efficiently... best Haploidavey (talk) 21:02, 26 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Theatre of Italy moved to draftspace

[edit]

Hello. I'm afraid an article you recently created, Theatre of Italy, is not suitable as written to remain published. It uses a strong essay tone in several parts, most statements and claims are not sourced, and a significant percentage of the existing sources are unreliable (personal websites and term papers) or don't support what the article states.

It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ► LowLevel73 (talk) 11:47, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

John Florio

[edit]

Hello Luke Willer, I clicked unintentionally the reverse bottom to revert John Florio's picture, before writing a comment. I am going to write here, why I think the image of Florio is more important in the page 'Culture of Italy'. John Florio was of Italian origin (unlike Shakespeare) and Florio was the main ambassador of Italian culture in the Elizabethan era and in the following century (through his dictionary), the main influencer of Italophilia in the XVII and also he is one of the major lexicographer of English language. I read you are Italian and I also invite you to read the following page, where it explains Florio's influence on Shakespeare. https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Influenza_di_Giovanni_Florio_sulle_opere_shakespeariane — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.66.217.217 (talk) 13:21, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I wrote you in talk and then you reverted it as a vandalism. So I guess, you wanted just to impose your opinion. We can add both images to the pages. As I wrote, John Florio is the main contributor to the development of Italophilia in the English world in the XVII century and on.
"John Florio is one of the most prominent linguists and educators in Elizabethan England, Florio was greatly responsible for the spreading of Italian letters and culture throughout educated English society. Especially important was Florio’s dictionary, which – thanks to its exuberant wealth of English definitions – made it initially possible for English readers to access Italy’s rich Renaissance literary and scientific culture" (Award-winning author Hermann W. Hi LukeWiller . I noticed that you used ethnicelebs.com as a reference for biographical information in Ron DeSantis. I've gone ahead and removed it. If you disagree, let's discuss it. You may want to check WP:RSP and WP:RSN to help determine if a source is reliable. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on I due evasi di Sing Sing requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/I due evasi di Sing Sing. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Citing journal articles

[edit]

Hi, when citing journal articles, like those which you added to Roman republic, please do not just provide a {{cite web}} citation. More bibliographic information adds substantially to the credibility and verifiability of the locations cited. I think NebY's expansion of one of your citations here would be a good thing to do. Ifly6 (talk) 19:08, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In case you don't know already, Wikipedia's editor can do most of it automatically. Once I'd found that journal webpage https://riviste.unimi.it/index.php/noema/article/view/9955, I could paste that URL into the Automatic tab of citation builder in Wikipedia's editor - all I had to add was the publisher. It would be quicker and easier for you, because you knew where you'd found the article and that you'd cited an authentic, scholarly peer-reviewed publication, compliant with WP:RS and WP:SCHOLARSHIP; I had to discover that. Hope this helps. NebY (talk) 20:02, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please also read the citations that are generated. Some of the citations you've added to Roman republic are in all caps instead of sentence or title case and also lack important language metadata. Also, the existing style uses {{harvc}} for parts of an existing work; per WP:CITEVAR additions should be consistent with the existing style. The added citation to the OCD4 article on Brennus, for example, should have been added inside the OCD4 section and should have noted its print publication date rather than its posting online. WP:CITE's Date a book that is identically reprinted or printed-on-demand to the first date in which the edition became available applies here because it is the online-"printing" of an existing book published in 2012. Ifly6 (talk) 22:59, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I also want to explain why I reverted a certain edit you made linking some random website. Wikipedia prioritises citations to reliable sources. I consider this, foremost, to be WP:SCHOLARSHIP; I also think unreliable sources should be removed in part because their addition actively misleads readers (both by leading them to the wrong sources and also by giving a misleading impression of rigour). Some of the sources you've added are also rather old. WP:AGEMATTERS in these cases: one of the cases for example talks about one of the Crassi who is alleged to have been a member of the democratic party. Such reductive readings of Roman politics, rendering them into democratic and aristocratic parties, are discredited. See Optimates and populares. Ifly6 (talk) 23:03, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Only if you want, you could also add the link you added to the Pavese agnolotti page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/1190440329) to all the other pasta dishes on the List of Italian dishes page. JackkBrown (talk) 15:15, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In the list I have added many unknown foods, I don't know whether these should only be included in the regions. My question is: should all regional foods from the various regions also be added to the main lists (e.g. "tortino di riso alla valdostana")? If you want, you can check all the main lists down to the regions, because I have certainly added some really unknown foods that perhaps shouldn't be included in the main lists as well, because otherwise the regional lists don't make sense (of course I'm always referring to the List of Italian dishes page). Question

[edit]

Hello colleague. I would like to ask you if you could recommend a user who could translate one fragment from archaic Italian into English? With respect. Smpad (talk) 13:55, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

So, I wrote the article about an influential Levantine merchant Khwaja Bedik.
There is an interesting primary source that writes about him, an Italian traveler Pietro Della Valle, in this book (edition) — Viaggi Di Pietro Della Valle, Il Pellegrino. He writes his name as Chogia Abedik. Information is scattered through pages 848—852.
I asked a colleague from the Russian wiki to translate what was written about him (Chogia Abedik), but he is an amateur learner of Italian. This is approximately what I received:

"Chogia Abedik is very important and respected among them [Armenian Christian gentlemen from Julfa]; this not only means that he is a good Christian and a good friend, as always was with the people of the Franks; but that that he is so religious and pious that it [represents] a mirror of religiosity and Eastern Christianity. This lies in the fact that no matter how many sons a person has, he still spends all his [wealth] on the construction of churches and decorations of [their] walls, silver crosses, cups and other necessary things. And in this new Isfahan Julfa, where they were forced to move after the king destroyed the ancient Armenian Julfa, which was located on the border with Turkey on the Araks River, out of ten churches, one was completely built and maintained by Chogia Abedik with his own money, and in another [church] he contributed most of the funds, although [its construction] is attributed to the names of other [people]. And [still] he helped and helps to create countless works of art in the surrounding villas every day. But I do not want to be silent about another manifestation of his kindness. In the wars that took place in Armenia and Georgia, when [the lives] of many thousands of Christians were turned upside down, and they became slaves, out of the love of God, at his own expense, he redeemed [from slavery] and freed more than four thousand people, diligently looking for them even in distant lands, [he returned] sons to fathers, wives to husbands, and relatives to relatives so that they would not be lost. And in order to do this, not having enough cash and not being able to quickly sell the silks he had, he borrowed them from the Shirvan Khan, who was also the son of a Christian Armenian, giving him as a pledge the silk and what he had owned. This is real mercy, I don't know if more can be done."

I would like to ask you to correct/rewrite the text, since Italian is your native language.
I will be very grateful to you. With respect. Smpad (talk) 14:21, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look at this page

[edit]

You reverted the IP of the usual permanently blocked spanish sockmaster at ancient Rome, but now he is distrupting the page battle of Lepanto (Flenaot, Floutomb, Tranblit are some of his socks active there) to hide that most ships were from Italian states and put Spain first in the intro and the infobox (this he did a lot of time ago with another sock). In my opinion, given the number of ships involved, Venice should be first in the infobox and we should restore the part of the intro he removed in which the ships and captains are listed. Note that in the previous years he also tried to the switch the number of ships from Spain and Venice. Now he doesnt do that anymore, 'cause it was literally invented out of nowhere, so he came up with the story that Philip II financed the league the most and so he was the leader of it. Which I suspect to be non-sense and should be removed. In any case most ships were Venetian and the political leader of the Holy League was the Pope, so why should Spain be first? no one knows. John of Austria (who he has also tried in the past and on his page to make a Spaniard...except he was German, altough it's true he was the half-brother of Philip II) should be first among the listed commanders, but the countries in the infobox should be listed accordingly to the number of ships. I think. 2A01:E11:17:40B0:6C11:25E0:1350:5186 (talk) 15:57, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Quality or not?

[edit]

Hi, in your opinion are the articles on Giuseppe Garibaldi and Giuseppe Mazzini of quality? The Italian-language Wikipedia page on Garibaldi has 435 references, including notes (https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giuseppe_Garibaldi); I don't understand why there's such an exaggerated difference. JacktheBrown (talk) 18:19, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have just added the "Refimprove" template (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Giuseppe_Garibaldi&diff=prev&oldid=1217428377). However, my question was intended as follows: why is the article in Italian so long, while the one in English is "only" 90,910 bytes long? It cannot be a question of language, because Garibaldi is very well known worldwide. JacktheBrown (talk) 19:40, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is it possible to expand the article? Or is it OK according to the policies of en.wiki? Some time ago I was told that even if a particular article is longer in it.wiki it's not necessarily better, because the references in the English language Wikipedia are better (and this is true, it's full of gossip references in Italian language articles. I'm not referring to Garibaldi). Also, to quote an article, the article on Italy is better in the English-language Wikipedia, as is the article on the Roman Empire. JacktheBrown (talk) 20:20, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So if I wanted to expand the article I couldn't because it's already good enough, or could I expand it? JacktheBrown (talk) 20:33, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In your opinion, does the page on Giuseppe Mazzini also need new references? JacktheBrown (talk) 11:29, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Images deleted from the page

[edit]

Hi, an user has deleted some images from the list of Italian foods and drinks page (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_Italian_foods_and_drinks&diff=prev&oldid=1219614276); since you're the biggest contributor as far as adding pictures is concerned, in a positive sense of course, if you want to check whether this user has deleted beautiful pictures, that would be a good thing; it would be nice to keep the most beautiful pictures in terms of quality (example: "pecorino romano", a very good image, unfortunately deleted). JacktheBrown (talk) 22:02, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted two images and restored two, otherwise the user (with all due respect to him) could certainly delet my changes; I don't trust. JacktheBrown (talk) 23:02, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Luke, please, I trust your judgement

[edit]

Luke, I am Barjimoa but I cannot log in from the house I am right now, because here i don't have the password. Please reconsider your position. I know you are in good faith, but terms here are EXTREMELY important.

The dominant concept is that the partisans fought an "Italian war of liberation" from BOTH Nazi occupation and the collaborationist Fascists (https://it.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guerra_di_liberazione_italiana). And this is why it's called Liberation day. You can do a rapid check on the bibliography here (https://it.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Bibliografia/Resistenza_italiana) to see how serious scholars and the vast majority of people talk of a Liberation war; only a few biased authors (usually neo-fascists and non-historians) speak only of a civil war. It is not my opinion, not long ago I had the opposite opinion, then I had the chance to read some books about this topic and realized what a massive mistake I was led to believe.

The point is this: the Italian resistance heavily fought against the Nazis, giving a contribution to the Liberation of Italy from German occupation, and whoever reads "Italian civil war" automatically excludes this by definition because it's a concept PRECISELY created to exclude that aspect and limit everything to Italians vs Italians (giving equal legitimacy to the Kingdom of Italy and the RSI state). As I said, the Italian civil war article uses as a source Giorgio Pisanò, a non-academic and a neo-fascist. His goal was to reduce the Italian Resistance to a civil war in order to eliminate the role of Italian resistance against Nazi Germany. Another one who popularised this concept is Giampaolo Pansa, again not a scholar; he wrote books without even putting sources and bibliography in them. They are polemic books by journalists, not good for doing history.

On the other hand this concept, based on the argument that the Italian resistance did nothing of value against the Germans, has been totally disproved and rejected by most serious and academic historians and also by people who where in the Resistance and wrote excellent sourced books and memoirs (Villari, Flores, Franzinelli, R. Cadorna, Bencivenga, I.Muraca etc. etc.).

To be fair, there is one serious scholar who talks of a civil war: Claudio Pavone. He himself, however, says that the "civil war" is a SUB-ASPECT of the Liberation war, which is the dominant concept and more broadly refers to the war against both German occupiers and the collaborationist Fascists. So, if we use him to rebrand the whole Liberation struggle solely as a civil war, he is misquoted.

So one can say that, within the Resistance and Liberation war, there is ALSO an Italian civil war (according to Pavone) but reducing the "Italian liberation war" to only an "Italian civil war" follows an old and always rejected biased thesis. 2A01:E11:17:40B0:31ED:3784:5E7:6A17 (talk) 16:02, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Olive Oil is a "Italian food"? Seriously?

[edit]

You are Italian, and you have been editing Wikipedia for 17 years almost exclusively articles related to Italy because of patriotism or whatever. I understand that its imposible not to have some tiny bias from time to time, but this is complete nonsense.

Olive Oil is not an exclusive Italian thing, it is part of the cuisine of many countries. Furthermore, Olive Oil was also introduced to Argentina even centuries before the arrival of Italian immigrants, mainly by Spaniards.

Be careful next time about introducing national biases. Dreom (talk) 11:23, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

When you are suspicious that users or IPs are socks of his (he is a Spanish chauvinistic user that is obsessed with Italy, Portugal, Britain, and edits in fields such as history, climate, languages etc.) collect the evidence and ask the admin Daniel Case on his talk page to block, he has dealt with this a lot. Or file an investigation page. Or inform me and I will report them to Daniel Case or open an investigation page, as I usually have others to report. If they bother you here you can ask other admins to have your talk page protected, I did that in the past. Barjimoa (talk) 12:30, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dubious sentence on the Italy page

[edit]

I think we should remove the sentence "During the 17th and 18th centuries, Italian economic importance waned significantly." from the first part of the article; why, while the wikilink refers to the whole of Europe, is this sentence only present on the Italy page and not, for example, on the Spain, France, England, and Netherlands pages? Healthcare

[edit]

I would like to modify the sentence "However, in 2018 Italy's healthcare was ranked 20th in Europe by the Euro Health Consumer Index.", firstly by reporting the current result (2024), and secondly because it's quite strange, almost impossible, that it's in 20th place. Would you like to collaborate with me in the creation of this sentence? JacktheBrown (talk) 14:24, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

20th place is almost impossible, from first places to 20th is almost literally impossible. JacktheBrown (talk) 14:30, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Split/Zadar/Rijeka/Šibenik InfoBox

[edit]

Hi Luke,

I noticed in the articles for Split, Croatia, Zadar, Rijeka, Šibenik, etc, you placed the Italian versions of the names in the native_name line. However per Wikipedia Template:Infobox settlement it states the native_name is:

“ Name in the local language, if different from name, and if not English. In this case "native" does not mean indigenous but is related to de facto language that is not English. This will display below the name/official name.”

and that

” If there is more than one native name, in different languages, enter those names using {lang}}, instead.”

Given the location, would Italian be the local language? Perhs the Croatian and Italian language versions would be in the other_name line as usual being it is an alternate name used? other_name is defined as:

” For places with other commonly used names like Bombay or Saigon”.

However for Kotor you put the Italian versions in the other_name line instead of native and didn’t preface it with {nativename|it}}? Is there a difference for the articles? OyMosby (talk) 20:56, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Based on your reply on my talk page to my original comment here, you presumably agree?
Also, your reverts of my reverts of you instating the definitive historical name in the intros comes across a bit condescending and dismissive. Zader dates back to the 12 century so is in fact centuries old for example. I referred to my earlier diff as I didn’t want to re write it but also didn’t want to leave the diff blank.
Your diffs aimed at me state:
” It's not a question of explanations, but of common sense, it has been the historical name for centuries, it is not a historical name like the others.”
I understand you disagree with my disagreement of your proposed introduction format from 2022. Could we civilly discuss this? My first impression is that saying it was historically one specific name implies there weren’t others that were non-Italian. Perhaps you could explain why I may have the wrong take or interpretation here? Also could we keep the conversation here for context? I think going back and forth on each other’s talk pages is a bit confusing. Cheers. OyMosby (talk) 21:40, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Huh, so you mean Zara was not the only name that was used centuries ago but was the official city name for the greater amount of centuries whereas Zadar was dropped at a point and was more locally used amongst Slavic populations in the meantime? While Zara may have been the longest serving official name, does it validate exempting other historical name from being listed as well? Could list in order of how long each was used in terms of organizing by relevance?
Also I see you updated the infoboxes which is appreciated. Could you take care of Rijeka and Trogir as well? OyMosby (talk) 22:05, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I meant Zader. I don’t see the controversy of my typo. Zadar is the modern version of Zader hence the typo, as autocorrect pushes Zadar as the spelling. I think it’s an odd word choice “admit” as I wasn’t trying at hiding anything. Hold on, I specifically said “may have” for the sake of argument of ordering the list. I have to read further before being absolute on the subject matter. But I am aware enough that there were other versions. The point is Zara wasn’t the only name used in the past so it still seems undue to write off others under the assumption that Zara was the longest running official name. You deem a list as not needed so we are in a disagreement. Perhaps there are users more specialized in city/town intros that could give extra input? OyMosby (talk) 22:38, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking care of the infoboxes on those two other pages as well. Much appreciated. OyMosby (talk) 22:39, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
