Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Bennettdave.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 18:55, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Same style used for Dave Bennett's photo as for his brother Dennis Bennett's. Topps chewing gumss copyright is implied when the word Topps is used to classify the manufacturer of the card. This style is used (it seems) throughout the wiki, red sox nation, and BR Bullpen models, all based on wiki. If you need me to start adding copyright symbols, please let me know and I will be glad to do so.

Also, if you need to know: I do own a copy of this card in my personal collection. Thank you.

Replaceable fair use Image:Bennettdave.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Bennettdave.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Sfan00 IMG (talk) 01:52, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Bennettbrothers.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Bennettbrothers.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:20, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Muboshgu. Your recent edit to the page David Robertson (baseball) appears to have added premature information about a reported sports transaction, so it has been removed for now. The transaction is based on anonymous sources and/or awaiting an official announcement. If you believe the transaction has been completed, please cite a reliable source or discuss your change on the article's talk page. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:53, 3 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Mayo Smith, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Major League (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

I removed your addition of the ESPN link for Michael Jordan's stat links. Prior consensus at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Basketball_Association/Archive_19#ESPN_NBA_bios was to not support them in the template, so it does not make sense to manually add them either. Feel free to start a new discussion at WT:NBA if you disagree. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 10:21, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Tony Gwynn, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Specifically, please be aware of MOS:OVERLINK and MOS:PIPE. And while it's not an MOS, refer to [WP:NOTBROKEN]] about piping redirects. Thanks.Bagumba (talk) 12:17, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your edits to Tony Gwynn, please use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the article will look like without actually saving it.

The "show preview" button is right next to the "publish changes" button and below the edit summary field.

It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance. Thank you. —Bagumba (talk) 12:20, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia talk:Spam edit

[edit]

Hi, Jimmiefoxx, I reverted your comment at Wikipedia talk:Spam. That page is all about how to improve the page Wikipedia:Spam, so your asking for specific guidance is the wrong sort of comment there, and more importantly, you probably won't get the help you're asking for.

There are other places on Wikipedia where you can post that, though, that are more appropriate and which will probably get you a better response. Try the Wikipedia:Teahouse, where experience editors hang out to answer questions like this. You can use pretty much the same text as you were using in Wikipedia talk:Spam, although it would be even more helpful if you include links to your edits that you're asking about, so people can see what you're referring to. Good luck! TJRC (talk) 02:54, 25 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A while back the batting average article was split into batting average (baseball) and batting average (cricket). If you are adding stats to baseball articles then you should ideally use the sport specific version, rather than the main article. There was a bot run to do the changes on articles at the time, I'm just going through and changing articles created / edited since then. Many thanks. Information icon Hello, I'm Eagles247. I noticed that you made a comment on the page User talk:Yankees10 that didn't seem very civil, so it has been removed. Wikipedia is built on collaboration, so it's one of our core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Eagles 24/7 (C) 15:32, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ask him why he thinks he has to rebuke me at every turn. So much for a free forum. Jimmiefoxx (talk) 16:36, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please .. How do I reply to only him? There’s no link like you sent me. I have found no other way to respond. Or start a conversation. Why are you defending yankees10’s consistent abuse of others? His comment could easily have been responded with, See Hoyt Wilhelm and/or Kent Tekulve or dozens of other relief pitchers. I have myself been an admin in other environments. But I have never (and never will) cry to others to fight my battles. And before you respond that you took this upon yourself, I implore you to see who you’re defending by seeing how he has previously harassed me (and I’m quite sure others). I respond to him in his talk zone that he has taught me plenty but that I have a background in publishing and editing and he never responds. Remember please that the referees never see the player who throws the first blow, only the player that retaliates. Have a terrific day!! Jimmiefoxx (talk) 16:48, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"literally every single current player has this standard intro" is a bit stern, but "you make the wiki world a cesspool" in response is completely uncalled for and detrimental to the project's goals (see WP:No personal attacks). Yankees10's talk page is on my watchlist, which is where I saw your comment (I rarely edit baseball articles and don't have many of them watchlisted so I was unaware of the supposed dispute between you two). He did not ask me to give you a warning, and I'm not sure he even finds value in issuing warnings since he fails to warn editors after reverting vandalism. If you could provide me evidence of his "consistent abuse of others" and previous harassment of you that would be appreciated, because I am not sure what you're referring to and those are pretty serious allegations. If you were upset by his edit summary, try to keep your cool and maybe post on his talk page explaining that your edit to the lead was in good faith and you were unhappy with the tone of his edit summary. We're all volunteers here, and sometimes we may say something that came out more aggressive than intended (I assume this in his case) or meaner than intended/warranted (I assume this in yours). Eagles 24/7 (C) 17:16, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also, my talk page is open if you have any questions or if there are issues you need help with in the future. Eagles 24/7 (C) 17:20, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your kind attention. As it so happens, you and I love the same football team; to put it in football terms: The user in question is purely-offense-minded. There is perhaps a power trip in their position. I have tried civility with them. As I said, they do not respond. I meant the cesspool comment directly to Y-10. No one else treats me like they do. We are all human, but we all have free will and they won’t back off me. Everything I say is true to me; truth is subjective. They don’t know what a negative influence they are to your conclave. I will stop trying. I fully realize that I can do all the editing I want without logging in. I know I can log in under a variable IP, if I do desire. But my name means something more than a Jim Croce song. I stand for something. In 10 days, it will be twenty years since I suffered heart failure. Seven years later, I had seven small strokes and have been totally disabled ever since. (I’m talking not walking, not talking, learning everything all over again.) So, God keeps me here to do his good works; of that I am certain — why else am I still here. If you investigate, that over the last several years, I have become increasingly active on Wikipedia. It has given me purpose again. You might understand if I would cite the movie, “Tge Shawshank Redemption,” where character Andy Dufresne says that it’s his life the warden is trying to take away when he ignores new, exonerative evidence that surfaces. Rest assured, this is my life and I will defend it. But I have learned to choose my battles. And I refuse to let Y-10 continue to be part of it, as the “boost” it gives to his ego is not mine to judge. Jimmiefoxx (talk) 17:39, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please pardon my few typos above, as the Wiki comment response field only shows two lines at a time on an iPhone, which makes it difficult and I find it very difficult to use a laptop.... Jimmiefoxx (talk) 17:44, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am very sorry to hear about your health condition, and I'm glad Wikipedia is helping you cope. It is clear you have done very good work here, and it is perfectly fine if you choose to edit without logging in. However, I should advise you that sometimes editing as an IP is more difficult, as some editors are wary of IP edits due to their higher percentage of vandalism that registered users. I don't believe Yankees10 is systematically targeting your edits (why wouldn't he just revert all of your edits on Connor Brogdon if he were?) but I understand if you disagree. Eagles 24/7 (C) 17:54, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No, Sir. I agree he’s not reverting them all. (While paranoia is part of the human condition, I give my word that I police myself ardently.) I do talk with a slight impediment. And I’ve gone from wheelchair to walker to cane. I did not tell you that story to invoke compassion, but to explain more fully who I am. But I am thankful for your kind words. I wasn’t threatening to edit in those forms, I was just saying that if banned and I think I have a worthwhile contribution to make, tgere are always ways; but if I’m banned merely for writing better than someone else, I couldn’t envision why I’d bother. That “bad apple” will remain dead to me, as the rain falls off a duck’s back. They are unreachable and it’s not my mission to help everyone — just whomever allows me. Peace out. Jimmiefoxx (talk) 18:09, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
