Livengood, AK

Hey JK. I noticed that you have a picture from Livengood, AK on Wiki. I was wondering if you could get a picture of the CO in Livengood. I would love to see even just the outside of this building.

The Livengood CO runs a Redcom Labs MDX384 switch. This type of switch allows in-band signalling. Livengood happens to be the last CO in North America that still accepts in-band signalling. For this reason, I feel that a picture of the Livengood CO would be appropriate for the Livengood, Blue box, Phreaking and/or 2600 article(s).

This CO will probably be upgraded to a DMS type switch in the near future due to the population burst expected from the recent discovery of gold under the town. It would be really cool if you could get some pictures of the MDX while it is still active but as I said before, even a pic from outside would be welcomed.

I know this is out of your "scope of interest" but I'm sure that many people would appreceiate a picture of the last North American telco "toy".

Good article you created

Congratulations on having an article you created (1981 Peach Bowl (January))and are the principal author of acheive "good article" status. I was at that game and being able to read about it in detail was a heart-warming experience. I remember that it got very cold after the sun started to set. My wife and I kept trying to stay in the sunshine because I was a little under-dressed. We had migrated to the upper northeast corner of the stadium by the time the game ended — the place where the very last rays of sunshine had been. FAC for 2010 PapaJohns.com Bowl

Hello and welcome back! I wanted to tell you that your Virginia Tech bowl game articles and topic were the major reason I started editing Wikipedia in the first place. I have been working for the past year on creating a Connecticut Huskies bowl game topic similar to your Virginia Tech bowl game one; naturally this topic is far smaller in scale. I have a bowl game article, 2010 PapaJohns.com Bowl, currently nominated at FAC. This article has gone through two FACs previously but has failed to be promoted, mainly due to prose issues especially associated with the Team selection section. Rosendale trestle FAC

Just wanted to let you know I addressed your comments at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Rosendale trestle/archive1. You asked a lot of questions that I also wondered about when researching the trestle, and I really wish there was more published material. I'm hoping that an engineering report comes out soon, or that when the Century House Historical Society opens in the spring, I can convince them to publish online whatever information they have on the bridge.

GA Nom of 2011 Orange Bowl on hold

Hey there. Just thought I'd let you know I have placed my GA review of the 2011 Orange Bowl which you nominated on hold for the time being. Overall it is a very good article however I think it could use one or two minor additions, one being an image from the game and the other being a reference in the lead somewhere. Thank you for adding your comments to the Broad Ripple Park Carousel. I was glad to see that you have memories of the carousel! I'm currently The Children's Museum of Indianapolis's Wikipedian-in-Residence (latest news here) and this is one of the projects that I'm most proud of! ... I'm really lucky to have User:Ealdgyth step up to the plate for me on-Wiki as I've coordinated the back and forth between her and the curators. I thought you'd be glad to see that through the GLAM initiative we recently developed a Wikipedia Widget that is now in use on the museum's carousel webpage. We're now working on a QR code to be added to the line/exhibit so that visitors can read the Wikipedia article (hopefully FA status soon!) while waiting to ride. Next Children's Museum Backstage Pass

While I know you're very far away, I still wanted to keep you in the loop on our latest goings ons at the Children's Museum and pass along the information I've prepared for our 2nd Backstage Pass and Edit-a-Thon, which will occur on Saturday, August 20. The Wikipedian in Residence project is coming up on one year and is going strong. While the first year focused on garnering institutional enthusiasm among staff, organizing multiple content donations, and guiding teens in research and article creation, the next year will focus on establishing an E-Volunteer program and more deliberately connecting with local Wikipedians and WikiProjects around the world. You can read a summary of our projects on the museum's blog, or visit the project page.

Since you most likely will not be able to attend, but are likely interested in remaining involved and up to date on the museum's Wikipedia project, you can sign up on our E-Volunteer page. Children's Museum update

It's time again to share the latest news on the Children's Museum of Indianapolis Wikipedia project! In the last few months we have been busy with our third image donation, which was made up of 150 images that were professionally photographed specifically for this upload. We are asking for volunteers to categorize these images and distribute them into Wikipedia articles. Your help is appreciated! Check them out here.

We have also donated our first video and a second GLAM-Wiki Infographic to Commons. In September we were thrilled to welcome Jimmy Wales to the museum. Following our successful Edit-a-Thon and Translate-a-Thon in August, translations have continued with the help of the established QRpedia community, (particularly Russian translations thanks to Lvova!) We have begun to analyze our implementation of QRpedia codes and completed an extensive case study. In November we presented at the Museum Computer Network conference about how museums can effectively collaborate with Wikipedia. You can see more details on the Prezi.

In more general news, in addition to serving as the Children's Museum's Wikipedian-in-Residence, it was recently announced that I will be taking on the role of US Cultural Partnerships Coordinator for the Wikimedia Foundation. In this role I will be working to streamline the process of connecting interested US GLAMs with the Wikipedia community. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to let me know. Be sure to sign up for This Month in GLAM to keep up with the latest GLAM-Wiki news from around the world (subscribe).

We have a listing of High Need and Moderate Need requests on the Ways to Help section on the project page. I encourage you to lend a hand if you're able. Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, site of the 2006 Gator Bowl

The 2006 Gator Bowl was a college football bowl game between the Louisville Cardinals and the Virginia Tech Hokies in Jacksonville, Florida on January 2, 2006. Virginia Tech was selected as a participant in the 2006 Gator Bowl following a 10–2 regular season; a loss to Florida State in the inaugural ACC Championship Game gave Tech a position in the Gator Bowl instead of the more prestigious Orange Bowl game. Facing the 12th-ranked Hokies were the 15th-ranked Cardinals, who finished 9–2 during the regular season of their first year in the Big East Conference. Louisville led for much of the game, beginning with an 11-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter by backup quarterback Hunter Cantwell. In the second half, however, Virginia Tech's offense began to have success. Tech earned the only points of the third quarter—a 28-yard field goal from kicker Brandon Pace—to narrow Louisville's lead to 17–13. In the fourth quarter, the game fully turned in the Hokies' favor. Though Louisville scored a touchdown early in the quarter, Virginia Tech scored 22 unanswered points in the final 13 minutes of the game to take a 35–24 lead and earn the win. (more...)

I was just curious if you're planning on doing any research about her Kodiak years for your job, or if there is anything known about those years which may be relevant enough to share on here. I do know she was living there as the wife of Edward F. Naughton, Kodiak's then-member of the Alaska House of Representatives. Therefore, I would think there to be something relevant. The Virginia Tech Hokies football team takes the field before the start of the game.

The 2009 Orange Bowl game was the 75th edition of the annual college football bowl game known as the Orange Bowl. It pitted the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) champion Virginia Tech Hokies against the Big East Conference champion Cincinnati Bearcats on January 1, 2009 at Dolphin Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. Cincinnati scored first, converting the game's opening possession into a touchdown and a 7–0 lead in the first quarter. Virginia Tech responded in the second quarter, tying the game at seven before taking a 10–7 lead with a field goal as time expired in the first half. In the third quarter, the two teams battled defensively, with only the Hokies able to score any points as Tech extended its lead to 13–7. During the final quarter, Virginia Tech scored its second touchdown of the game, giving the Hokies a 20–7 lead that lasted until time expired. In recognition of his performance during the game, Virginia Tech running back Darren Evans was named the game's most valuable player. Three months after the game, players from each team entered the National Football League (NFL) via the 2009 NFL Draft. Cincinnati had six players selected in the draft, while Virginia Tech had one. Hello! Now, some of you might have already received a similar message a little while ago regarding the Recruitment Centre, so if you have, there is no need to read the rest of this. This message is directed to users who have reviewed between 12-14 Good article nominations and are not part of WikiProject Good articles (the initial messages I sent out went to only WikiProject members and users that had over 15 reviews).

So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:

  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. Now, one of the most important criteria is that you have at least 15 independent reviews. If you are reading this, you are likely 3 (or less) reviews short, so if you review another couple nominations, you can become a recruiter! If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".

NOTE: If you are interested in becoming a recruiter but do not meet the 15 review requirement, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters and put your status as "Not Available" until you have reviewed enough nominations.

  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

I had intended to nominate List of Yukon Quest competitors for a featured list slot, but I noticed that the information is out of date; none of the competitors since 2012 appear on the list. Might you be willing and able to update the list? I would like to see the article featured on the main page, but it doesn't meet the featured list criteria if the last three years aren't covered.

I had been meaning to say something for quite some time, but you haven't exactly been around. During that time, it has come in useful as a poster child for my complaints about how evidently low the FL threshold is. Some specific points:

  • "Its length is equivalent to the distance between England and Africa" – To me, "Africa" covers a lot of ground. Perhaps this could be more useful were it to be narrowed down?
  • "The racers have come from various professions: taxicab drivers, a swimming instructor, a coal miner, a tax assessor, a lawyer, fur trappers, journalists, and a car salesman, among others" – If "car salesman" was in reference to Ralph Seekins, he would more accurately be described as a car dealer. I know you didn't stay in Fairbanks for very long, but he's owned the dealership since 1977. I also wonder if the lawyer described is the one who took up dog mushing after being disbarred, though someone is likely to throw up a BLP flag were I to divulge further details.
  • "Mayor's Award" – Mayor of what?
  • The latest award winners are mentioned, as well as Lance Mackey's win, but no mention of topics of perhaps more lasting significance such as the record finishing time, or how numerous mushers (including Mackey) developed the strategy of running the Quest and the Iditarod back-to-back.
  • The list of mushers contains lots of notable people but is short on links. Some names have articles yet aren't linked; most notables lack articles, such as the aforementioned Ralph Seekins and a host of others.
  • OTOH, the locations appear to be fully linked, but I see lots of dubious redlinks. Examples: the only "Manley" I'm aware of in Alaska is Manley Hot Springs, same with "Mentasta" and Mentasta Lake; Mendenhall, Yukon, if I remember, is a subdivision on the outskirts of Whitehorse and not a community per se; likewise, I'm pretty sure that Lincoln Creek, Alaska is nothing more than a subdivision near the former Murphy Dome Air Force Station. Goldstream Valley and Sunshine are actual places, but not ideal links. The former is typically regarded as part of Fairbanks; there is a CDP called Goldstream which does not have an article. Sunshine is a railroad siding located within the Susitna North CDP, though it's typically regarded as part of Talkeetna; same with Sheep Mountain, though I can't remember what the community equivalent is on here. Finally, there's little appreciable difference between Old Minto and the present-day Minto.
  • Speaking of hometowns, would it help to spell out that these are as of the time period in which they participated? For instance, Ketil Reitan moved back to Norway a long time ago (he's married to a woman from Kaktovik).
  • How about a sortable table where appropriate?

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process.
