WikiProject Sheffield

[edit]

Hi! I have noticed you making a lot of edits to the Sheffield United article. A group of us who are working on Sheffield-related articles have got together to form Wikipedia:WikiProject Sheffield in the hope of fostering better collaboration between editors (hopefully resulting in better articles). If you would like to participate you would be most welcome, just add your name to the list on the project page. JeremyA 14:04, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Claude Davis

[edit]

I have removed the speedy tags from the Claude Davis article, I have given my reasons on the talk page, it would be good to cite the sources you used for the article too. Also, when you signed your post it gives two links to your user page, you might want to look at what you set in your preferences. Thanks. --Alf melmac 19:42, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, thank you for letting the article stand. I will in future, add sources to my posts whenever possible. Hawksworthm 20:49, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well thanks for creating that when nine other attempts failed. --Alf melmac 21:19, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Joe Shaw

[edit]

Hi there. Minor apology - I recently asked on Wikiproject Football about what should be done about the articles Joe Shaw (footballer) and Joe Shaw (soccer) - as you created the latter article I should have alerted you to it, and I didn't. Sorry. To prevent confusion between the two Joe Shaws I have moved the article about the Blades defender to Joe Shaw (Sheffield United) and updated all incoming links, including the one on your userpage; it was only when I did that did I realise I'd forgotten to consult you. I hope the move is OK with you, apologies once again. Qwghlm 13:28, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, it is a good idea to seperate them. Thanks for letting me know and updating the links. Hawksworthm 20:27, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An appreciation

[edit]

Hello to a fellow Blade. Not entirely sure if I've put these comments in the right place, but thanks for the work you've done on the Sheffield United page. I created the Tony Currie and Keith Edwards articles as you may know and I see you've added well to them, especially on the TC page. A shame the photos of Tony and Keith were removed though. All the best and enjoy the new season. Steve Morgan in Walkley. BladeSteve 23:22, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Steve, yes your comments are welcome here. Thank you for your kind words. When I first joined Wikipedia, I saw your articles on Currie and Edwards and I was very much impressed with them. I agree, it is a pity about the images. I guess one way is to use Wikipedia Fair use, this image is one example.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:George_Best.jpg this was uploaded in Oct 2005 and is still around – I think its just a question of getting the correct licensing for the image. Yes, I'm really looking forward to the new season, should be great to see the Lane packed for every match. All the best to you Steve, and Up the Blades! Hawksworthm 02:12, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Heya. Just a note to say that you left out an important bit of code in the above article: when citing a reference, you forgot to close the citation with </ref>. If you miss that, nothing after the citation will actually appear on the page, so it can be quite annoying for readers. I've fixed it for you, but thought I should leave a message to say so. :) Daveydweeb (chat/patch) 13:14, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate it, thanks fo letting me know about this. ;) Hawksworthm 14:47, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Birthplace and manual of style

[edit]

Hi, I see you undid my revert on Jordan Robertson so that his birthplace is now listed twice in the same article. Birthplaces should not be in the brackets with the date of birth, and there is definitely no need for it to be in there twice (it starts the next paragraph - I'm not referring to the one in the infobox in case you think that's what I was getting at). Please see the manual of style for details. WikiGull 15:20, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for pointing this out. Apologies for reversing your post, I wasn’t aware of these guidelines for editing when the info-box is present. I shall remember and apply these guidelines to my future posts. Can I just enquire.. If there is no info-box, should the Birthplace be included in the main article? Just so I know in future. Hawksworthm 16:43, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, glad to be of help, and thanks for taking my message the helpful way it was intended. It's not actually anything to do with the infobox. The manual of style is such that the birthplace goes in the text, but not in the same brackets as the date of birth. If you look at the Jordan Robertson article, him being born in Sheffield is mentioned in the second paragraph - that was what I meant by you having it twice (technicallly it was three, but I wasn;t counting the infobox). Hope that's clearer WikiGull 17:31, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Happy birthday

Barnstar

[edit]
The Running Man Barnstar
For your contributions towards football related articles on Wikipedia, and for supporting the best football team in Sheffield!. Keep up the good work! Jackrm 04:28, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I know it may seem random, but i've noticed you quite a few times now editing articles, specifically

to do with Sheffield United players. Thanks for working alongside me in trying to improve these articles! Jackrm 04:30, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jack Smith

[edit]

Just to let you know that I have moved moved Jack Smith (soccer) to Jack Smith (footballer born 1910). There have been several footballers called Jack Smith, and the year of birth seems about the best way to distinguish them. I've checked the "What links here" and updated a couple of links accordingly. Hope this is all OK, oh and good luck with the Bryan Robson era! --Jameboy 21:02, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes its fine with me. Thanks for letting me know. Hopefully next season, the Blades and the Baggies can make it back to the Premiership where the both belong.hawksworthm 00:52, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

James Milner Career section

[edit]

Not really asking for full feedback on this article (although I wouldn’t mind it). I’d just like to know what you feel the best way the divide up the Career section is, by Club, by season, not at all or some other way. Please leave your reply under the section in my talk page named “Milner Career section”. Buc 16:32, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

cheers

[edit]

Thanks kindly for the barnstar, I will wear it with pride. With a few more citations in the history section, I should be able to put West Bromwich Albion F.C. up for peer review soon. The Bryan Robson article has a fair way to go, but if you can make any contributions they would be welcomed... although the way he's going, his section as Sheff Utd manager will be exceedingly short. As a Blades fan, any chance you may be able to get an image or two of Robson? The one in the article is OK, but that tracksuit! I've also been doing a bit of work on Battle of Bramall Lane, a game I attended. It needs a lot more work, but would be good if we could collaborate on it to ensure NPOV. --Jameboy 22:20, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. I’ll see if I can add a little to the Sheffield United section of the Bryan Robson article. Getting a picture would be trickier - perhaps when he's in the car park. I used to see quite a bit of Neil Warnock coming and going, but I haven't seen Robson yet!. I was also at the Battle of Bramall Lane match, but we were probably at the other ends of the ground. I remember it well. I will take a look at the article. I collect old football programmes and will look through as many as possible to try and find out anything that could be used. hawksworthm 15:58, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Project Blades

[edit]

Hi,

The members of WP Football keep getting their knickers in a twist about wanting to delete the Sheffield United project (or subsume it into some taskforce thing). (See here) I've headed them off at the pass so far but more views and consensus on the Blades project page might be of help.

Thanks Bladeboy1889 (talk) 13:34, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, Thank you for letting me know about this. hawksworthm (talk) 11:08, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

For the barnstar thingy - good to see someone notices my efforts to keep the Blades section in shape ;o) Bladeboy1889 (talk) 09:03, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Invite to the African Destubathon

[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:12, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
