Comic book edits
[edit]We don't include the phrase 'cover date' in articles, putting the month and year IS the cover date, and that's the commonly accepted means of doing so, per WP:COMIC and WP:MOS. Please read up on these to understand why I've reverted your edits. Publication history things like 'showing up one month after that othr thing' is also fairly trivialy information, per WP:TRIVIA, and AVTRIV. I don't want to seem like I'm simply swamping you with policies, but as you start out here, it helps to see and understand the policies involved. Anyways, I recognize you're trying to add good things to articles, and good contributors are always welcomed and encouraged, even if every single edit they make isn't. Hope to see you continuing to add to Wikipedia. ThuranX 21:49, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads-up on the "cover date" thing. The "one month after the other thing", I agree is pretty trivial and is something I've actually edited out of articles, myself. Duane Thomas
Spelling, etc.
[edit]Hi, Duane, and welcome. I hope you don't mind my asking, but it'd be great if you could double check spellings and punctuation on your edits, and also to think about excess wordiness. Usually the best way to say something is the simplest way. Lastly, if you could check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/editorial guidelines and Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/exemplars, and also the general Wikipedia:Manual of Style, that would help out some of your fellow editors. Thanks! --Tenebrae 04:26, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Hello. Please don't forget to provide an edit summary. Thank you. --Oneiros 14:55, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
- I have to ask you again to be careful with your spelling and grammar, and to add edit summaries. "Freelance", for example is one word, and you'll see my specific comments about your inaccurate grammar and punctuation in my Don McGregor edit summary just now. I ask you again please, since you're creating a lot of unnecessary additional work for other editors. Thanks. --Tenebrae 02:59, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Well, I just learned something. My old Webster's Unabridged lists the spellings "free lance" and "free-lance", but no "freelance" so for years I've assumed that was an incorrect spelling.
What sort of "inaccurate grammar and punctuation" did you have in mind? I've been making my living as a professional writer since 1992, so I'm always up for learning more. DuaneThomas (talk) 06:45, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- See Merriam-Webster here. I'm glad you've been making a living as a professional writer since 1992. I've been doing it since 1979, so I know it's no mean feat. You probably know that we try to avoid passive-voice construction, such as "Marvel Boy has also been shown to be..." as opposed to "Astonishing Tales #1000 (Jan. 2010) showed Marvel Boy as...."
- Also, just want to note that WikiProject Comics format is for long years to be abbreviated in issue-date citations. This has been gone over many times on the Editorial Guidelines and Exemplar pages there, and the nature of this particular Project makes such abbreviations necessary in the constrained space of the usually very numerous issue-date citations per article. Thanks. --Tenebrae (talk) 16:25, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the pointers. I'll take them to heart.
So, at what sort of writing have you been making your living? Magazine articles here. DuaneThomas (talk) 06:16, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Capitalization conventions
[edit]I noticed that you changed the heading "Plot synopsis" to "Plot Synopsis" in Twin Peaks. Per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (capitalization), I've changed it back. Wikipedia uses sentence case — that is, capitalizing only the first word and proper nouns — for article titles and headings. Please consider this in your future edits, and thank you for your cooperation. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 21:26, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Will do. Thanks for the heads-up. Duane Thomas
Edit summaries
[edit]Hello. Please don't forget to provide an edit summary, which wasn't included with your recent edit to Peter Petrelli. For example, if you corrected a spelling mistake, noticed something wrong with the format, added information to the article, or voiced your opinion in a discussion, please tell us in the space provided. It makes all our jobs much easier. Thank you. Grey Maiden talk 05:39, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
I would LOVE to provide edit summaries but, at the risk of revealing my inexperience, I don't know how. If you could tell me how, or point me in the right direction to learn, myself, I'd really appreciate it. DuaneThomas (talk) 06:44, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hey, we all start without experience. ☺ First, when you find blue links in explanatory text, as with Grey Maiden's request "to provide an edit summary" above, you should click on the link for more information. This is the standard expectation and recommendation for hyperlinking across the web, not just for Wikipedia. (One perhaps can't be blamed for not realizing this when so many badly crafted web pages say contextless things like "see this link for more information", as if "this link" somehow implies what one might find behind it. Sorry — that's a personal pet peeve.)
- The "edit summary" link will take you to the page "Help:Edit summary", which describes where to find the input box on any page during editing, and how to use it appropriately. Please read that page, and if you have any questions, I would be happy to answer them. Thank you for your attention. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 09:58, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Jeff Cooper Edits
[edit]Just wanted to thank you for a good set of edits to the Jeff Cooper article. You have materially improved the article with correct improvements in content (e.g. adding "full magazine" to the condition codes, which is "obvious" to many with experience but really needs to be stated explicitly) and the copy editing.
Please keep up the good work! Hga (talk) 13:14, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Famous gun writer Dean Grennell
[edit]I couldn't believe there wasn't already an article about Dean. Could you help flesh this out, remembering that for some of us he was a well know fan writer who also happened to write that gun stuff? --Orange Mike | Talk 15:45, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Tin Soldier Damon Knight may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "()"s and 3 "[]"s and 1 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.
